In this video we have a look at a 2002 Buick Regal Supercharged that has a Service Vehicle Soon Light on, ABS and Trac light on with codes C1221, C1225, and C1232 stored in it. We play with a new scan tool, the Launch Diagun IV and the Power Probe IV to make a short diag out of this one. -Enjoy!

Tractor Wrangler it’s not up there yet. I’ve looked too. Maybe our friend Mr. O has the honor of getting the first ones. Though you can buy it through his SMA Amazon page. I love this tool so far, I got the Zurich Diagnostic tool from Harbor Freight, it’s good but this level of access to your car in this tool and its price point, makes it great for the DIY’er like me.

Cool but it's really just an android phone and a Bluetooth module. You're paying 550 bucks for the software.

@Blazer02LS 6 жыл бұрын
Not really more like an android tablet with the software, no different than any of the other scan tools out there, they pretty much all use a version of Windows, Unix/Linux, or Android as the base, then write the software and a GUI to make it work.

Tractor Wrangler - That is typical rust damage on that rotor. See it all the time. Take a rotor of bare iron. Add some water and salt and overnight it will rust, drive it the next day and some of the rust will come off but most just gets burnished onto the surface, the only clean spot will be where the pads shielded the rotor. Keep that cycle going for a winter and you get rust like you see there. It also gets much worse the longer the vehicle sets unused. I have taken rotors like that and turned them just to see how far you would need to cut them to get back to clean iron. Not something I would do in a shop as you might "save" 1 in 10...

98% of the time its a wheel speed sensor acting the fool, but I have also seen a crankshaft position sensor also cause unintentional abs activation and traction control lights/codes. Thanks for the content Dr. O!

This inspired me to finally fix my 04 Impala ABS light, I knew it was the right front harness from what the scan tool told me. It broke in two places, the first where you typically see it.. the second up near the oil pan, along with the knock sensor wire. Some animal went to town on the wire harness. No more ABS or check engine lights!

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I have a 2000 Buick Regal with supercharger. Great car, ABS/Traction,/Service light all on at the same time intermittently. Has been aince 2011. I opened harness connections all the way down to each wheel and cleaned them all (and moved the wiring around as a result) and it fixed temporily then returned. It was the moving of the wires that no doubt turned the lights off. Harness time!

I must have done hundreds of those wheel speed sensor repair harnesses. I usually reccomend replacing the hub at same time. For some reason shortly after a harness repair the sensor always seemed to go bad causing a comeback. Got tired of whiners so they get hub and harness replaced now

Yes, this is a common problem on these vehicles as GM has a TSB regarding this issue (TSB 03-05-25-008). New harnesses for both front wheels are available with revised wire length and clip locations to prevent the harness from breaking again (Part numbers: 10340318 [RH] and 10340316 [LH]). I believe Dorman has harnesses available as well, but I wouldn't take the risk of using them.

Dang Eric, another new scan tool :-) I would love it if you would do a scan tool video, NOT a "tool review" per se, but just lay out all your tools in a line, and briefly go down the line and spend a few minutes on each highlighting capabilities and likes/dislikes. I have a "mid-grade" PC-based tool, and have been wanting to step up to a more Professional model with more bi-directional controls, but the choices and price points are dizzying. That little Launch Diagun IV has caught my eye for that price point

I use a diagun II, covers pretty much all systems on most cars. Sometimes you do have to fool it into communicating with a supposedly unsupported vehicle by knowing which other vehicles in a manufacturer's group have the same system fitted. I guess you can do the same with any brand of scan tool. The Bluetooth VCI was a big deal back in the days of faffing around with those personality keys for the Verus.

Umm a Buick 3.8 V6 in the shop! Super nice. And that new tool has my interest peaked. The cost is really good for the size and all the technology you get from your purchase. They give you two years of free updates which also excellent. But what do the updates cost after the two years is my concern? I watch Eric O talk about how much he gets billed from the Snap on truck to update his Virus and it's far too much money for a DIYer. BTW, keep the Buicks and Cadillac videos coming.

Austin Chase just got rid of my 95 Buick LeSabre with 216,000 miles and the engine was still running strong. I rebuilt the transmission 4t60e over three years ago still running strong but the body just like so many of them here in the rust belt just rusted away including the engine cradle but the 3.8 just kept running. Fortunately I'm a Certified Mechanic here in Michigan so I was able to do most of the repairs except the body.
