This press is very easy to build with simple lap joinery and a few mortise and tenon joints. The entire press is held together with carriage bolts so it can be easily disassembled for storage. I made mine out of white oak but other species could also be used. The accessories consist of a tray to collect the juice, racks(lattices) to direct the juice out of the stack, a form to hold the apple pulp as it is loaded, a top plate, and a press block.

Fascinating to see how your style (not to mention shop and equipment!!!) have changed across the years. Such consistently good content over that time too.

Nice one Matt, some great tips about hiding glue joints. I've seen these presses get used before, but I didn't realise it was such a simple machine to do it. And wow, a LOT of juice came out of it!

Loved this, Matt! My Dad and I built one of these a few years ago - although not as beautiful as yours - and it's still going strong! I'm sure you know, but once the apples are formed (in muslin, or cheesecloth, etc) it's called 'a cheese'... ...mmmmn, cheese... All the best, Toby.

Thanks again for making this Matt, great build. I just put in a dozen apple trees, that gives me about 5 years to get one made for myself! LOL.

Will the epoxy finish stay waterproof? Wood changes and cracks. Many aspects of your design rely on the fact that wood stays sealed. For example I would be worried if those racks will not come apart after few seasons.
