Used mine today and Thank God I had it on a very long 12 hr road trip. We came upon a really bad roll where young fella was thrown from the wreck and had so many cuts needing stitches it looked like he was in a sword fight with a ship full of pirates including one across the ear lobe under jawline to Adams apple very scary situation. Waiting for first responders for at least 15 minutes or more in a very rural area I was able to address the situation and set everyone and the patient at ease with the care I was prepared to give with my gear. I litterly was keeping my big kit on the floor board in front of my center console and my fanny pack small kit in back seat. It's a must have you really just never know when you're going to be the shining light on someone's darkest day.

I remember when I first started watching your videos quite a few years ago I made a small kit. That eventually turned into a Stop the Bleed kit. Based on a Coghlan's 5x7 waterproof pouch. Israeli bandage, NAR S- folded compressed gauze, gloves. And a CAT. Fits in cargo pocket. I have a few. Today is the 4th anniversary of the van attack in Toronto (near where I live) where 10 people were killed. I have carried one since. I have a more robust kit in the car and one at home with chest seals etc. Built them out over the years.

Medical gear outfitters is the place to go for great supplies. I am on a local search and rescue team so having quality gear without spending tons of money is a must for me and they are my go to shop. I recently put together a pocket trauma kit for edc with the same supplies you just talked about and feel much safer with it. Thanks to you and prepmedic I can always find good videos to refresh my mind and learn new things. Thank you and keep the content coming.

Great Advice in a succinct way. I have a co-worker who seems to be nibbling on the whole 'being prepared concept. Last week I lent them one of my IFAKs to go through it and get an Idea. I did pass along your channel and a couple of other 'essential' channels, and this is a perfect video to send them. Thanks!

I built out multiple trauma bleeding kits using directions from past SkinnyMedic videos. One thing that I haven't seen covered is the right size pouch to contain all the kit. I bought both the Condor Rip-Away EMT Lite Pouch and the Maxpedition FRP First Response Pouch then attached them to larger pouches containing a larger first aid kit.

Unfortunately I had the opportunity to use one of your kits a week ago. Had a small chainsaw accident with my oldest son (my fault). Used the NAR gauze to stop the bleeding. Thank God we had it and it only needed butterfly stitches.

I remember my dad told me, while in the Air Force, a father said good by to his wife and kids, as they went to get groceries. He decided to start cutting wood. They came home to a dead father, who's chainsaw chain snapped, and cut his femoral artery. I imagine he went pretty quick....yet not quick enough... Glad your story ended different.

Video suggestion: Hi Skinny, please consider doing a video on building a proper snakebite medical kit. There are venomous snakes on my hiking trail and I want to prepare for the unfortunate chance of being bitten while out in the wilderness. What is the proper response to being bitten by a venomous snake? How do I build a proper snakebite medical kit?

I have a half trauma kit that I wear on my pistol belt . I also switch it over to hunting belt. I have a SOFT T tourniquet, quick clot gauze and a Israeli bandage. I would like to add the Celox A applicator . I only have the quick clot gauze that sport type. That’s why I want the Celox applicator. I also for sure need to add couple compact chest seals and I should get a couple packs of quick clot combat gauze.

I am all for building you own ifak. However, my opinion is to only build an ifak that you can actually use.Train with the items you choose to add. I am also for having an ifak in places such as home, vehicle, and on person as an EDC. Having said this, if nothing else, the most important life saving tools you can carry is firearm and tourniquet. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks AGAIN! An interesting topic to consider is making your own trauma dressing / bandage(s)! Along those lines, would you suggest a 3 inch or 4 inch elastic wrap? I know the 4 inch would be more "standard", but might 3" width allow better control / "focus" of the pressure?

Question around Trauma Shears; I always carry a Leatherman Charge which has a serrated “safety blade” that is said to make cutting seat belt and cutting under clothes safe and it has scissors on it which I’m thinking might be suitable if I needed to cut open packaging / gauze etc if needed. Is there feasibility in that substituting for Trauma Shears, or should I still try to pack shears and not plan on the Leatherman covering that function?
@NathanSGuitar94
@NathanSGuitar94 Жыл бұрын
Personally I would add in a cheap pair of trauma shears. In the heat of the moment with adrenaline pumping you don’t want to flick out the wrong blade or cause further injury! Shears are cheap and you can use them confidently and quickly to expose a patient.
