Consider installing water aerator to increase oxygen level in the water. Also, consider planting water grasses to absorb nitrogen out of fish poop, otherwise you'll kill that lake in no time. That will help with water clarity too.

I strongly urge you to stock the fish in the spring when there is an active biological base to provide food, hiding spaces in the pond plants, and most importantly, waste removal and processing. Stocking a new pond in winter is a prescription for building up waste since nothing can grow and cycle.

My father owns a couple hundred acres of woods in Illinois in which there are a lot of ravines. One of the ravines are completely cut off from draining besides one larger ravine. He plans on building a road dam on the drainage ravine and have it naturally fed and filled by natural springs in the surrounding hills. Once complete, this “pond” would be acres large and at least 200 feet deep, it would be awesome when we gather the funds to complete it, perhaps selling many of the trees that occupy the lake site.

Having worked with dam spillways and valves over the years, they can get darn rusty and stiff. I would consider applying some appropriate grease to that Drain Valve Stem and perhaps some sort of cover that protects it from the weather. Could make it a lot easier to function if and when it is needed.

The way to increase the dissolved oxygen at this point would be to bring the fill pipe to the surface and let the water splash into the pond from the well. in extremely hot weather that’s how you save fish in small ponds. Use a large pump to make a water cannon that takes water from the pond and shoots it back into the pond catching oxygen as it falls also disturbing the surface causing the oxygen to increase. Yes it can cause some evaporation, but that is really minimal, especially this time of year when the weather is cooling down.

That new duck you have is not a female it’s a male duck in between changing color for the winter. Male Mallards and Rouen ducks change color they look like females in the summer and get male colors in the winter because it helps them blend in during the summer months. You are gonna want to trade him for a female and it’s recommended to have 2-3 females per Male so they don’t kill the females. You can see that that ducks has a green head and the grey male feathers coming in.

The logo looks AMAZING! Thank you for incorporating our ideas. The bass really makes it over the top cool! Edit: to help with oxygenation, get pond bubblers (the professionals call them "aerators", but we call them bubblers). It pulls the water from the bottom of the pond and brings it to the surface. This breaks the water surface, which oxygenates the water AND keeps the warm water from the bottom cycling up through the top column of water. -----* the more you know

From personal experience. Keep the standpipe drain's headgate shaft greased to keep the threads from rusting. Go out every few weeks and make sure it still turns. Not fun to try to get those headgates to open when they're rusted shut. Good luck

Your dedication to building this pond and your love for your family and wildlife will be a positive example for anyone who is addicted to what you are doing. Great job with every thing! If you do keep the duck in question I would call it, Idano

I’ve greatly enjoyed the entire process starting with the original pond at the house. Your motion sprinklers prompted me to get some to keep the deer away, thanks. I feel you should get a quality cover for the drain valve. No rain on the valve equals better performance. Just a thought.

Love the name of the boat!! Perfect!! Did you know deer can swim up to 2 to 3 miles a day sometimes. They are very good swimmers. They will swim across our lake to a small Island to eat, sleep, and to give birth. Some Bucks have stayed there for their entire life.

You have a great channel, congrats on the success of the pond from Australia 🇦🇺. I also just wanted to mention (like a few others) if you add a good selection of water plants, they will oxygenate the water and remove animal waste. I would also add a permanent fountain of some type to add even more oxygen to the water and keep it moving to prevent algal blooms etc.

You should put some perch in before anything else. They are a pioneer fish species and make a good base in new waters…

It seems like you got nothing but time and money-and at a relatively young age, too. Maybe do a video telling your story and how mid-20 aspiring pond owners can also find direction to be in a position you're in! I LOVE this series, keep 'em comin'! :)

When measuring pipe, you always record the inside diameter, NOT outside. And then wall thickness. Hope that helps.

Until you get to 14 inch. Then you go by outside diameter.

I think that's if you plan on fitting something inside the pipe. He said he was measuring for a cover grate to make sure debris doesn't go down inside and I believe that means figuring the outside diameter for something that might attach completely over the pipe without possibly falling in when installing a cover grate. Then again I may be wrong, but I believe he did the right thing.

It's a standard pipe size anyway so.............anyone making the grate would know what it is.

I am in South Texas and built a 1/2 acre pond this year so I have been enjoying all your videos. I made a Solar Aerator that has keep the environment in my pond very clean and healthy for the fish and swimming on hot days. Just wondering if you had plans to add an aerator or 2 to your pond? Beautiful Family. Thanks for the videos!

I'd never seize that valve stem and wrap it to keep it from rusting too soon. I've seen flexible PVC used to wrap around the stem too, but you need something that sticks (like Never Seize to keep it from rusting due to humidity). Love your videos and wish you, your wife and the kiddo continued success!

Never seize will wash off before long.. On the irrigation valves around here we use a product called silverstreak made by Schaeffers. It's the perfect product for that application. It is extremely waterresistant and super sticky. Lasts for years. Just don't get it on clothing or your skin.

It could be that the doe is in rut and laying the stink down, so she's avoiding the coyotes by staying in the water to mask her scent. If not that, she's all by her lonesome and not in a group of deer, so sticking to the water is her best option to not get picked off. Could name the new duck "Rolly", so Ally and Bamb-bam can Rolly with the tide. :D
