Off-Grid Garage

15 күн бұрын

So, in the next stage of transforming the Off-Grid Garage, I'm starting to build up the wall-framing inside the garage. This gives me already a pretty good understanding of the size of this room. I'm more than excited!
Building such a dry wall is all very straight forward, but I have to say, this laser-level is... next level. It makes it so much easier lining up the top and floor tracks and everything is just straight and perfect.
The door is quite a mystery for me as I'm not used to such basic door frames and design. I know prefabricated door frames which already come with architraves attached to the jamb and just click into each other. So, there is a bit of work involved to get this into position...
4D-Laser-Level with 16 lines. The ultimate tool for your renovation project or building a battery system room.

Looking great Andy once you get split AC unit up on the stud work out the way it will be the 'go to' room in the Summer heat. Did you know you lose approx 250 cycles for every deg C above 25 the batteries are subjected too? So, if your batts regularly stay at 45 C you lose 5,000 cycles which is insane, it's all in the spec sheet. I will be interested to hear the temp difference of your batts this Summer compared to last.

Thank you. My batteries don't stay at 45°. I maybe hit 40° for a brief moment for 10 days during summer. Everything else is under that temperature. I'm not too fussed about losing some cycles. The cells are rated for 55°C, so I'm far under that. But yeah, AC will be nice in summer for sure!

I'm impressed with your knowledge on the top track (Leaving room for movement and not screwing into the top of the studs) This is exactly the proper way to do it! Nice work!
13 күн бұрын
When we used to do those we would make the normal box top and add another on its back so the whole top floated as one unit and not just the individual studs.. In his application adding horizontal blocking to tie the studs together near the top and in the middle of a wall that is taller than 2 meters if he is just using drywall would be a good idea.. If he uses plywood then the plywood sheeting becomes the main structural component that stiffens and links the metal studs.. I have seen far too many office walls that get bumped hard and all of a sudden you have 20 drywall screw dimples because the wall flexed because drywall is not a structural component..

If you first put a chipboard (OSB) on the inside of your room and then put the plasterboard on top, you will have a very stable wall where you can screw things anywhere. In Germany, this is often done in kitchens where wall cabinets are installed.

Hello Andy from cloudy Vancouver, Washington...although today it is 103℉! I've learned a shit ton (standard Imperial unit of measure) here on your channel: DIY batteries, good BMS, bad BMS, busbars, and of course how to turn my Raspy into a functional display for my Victron system. But there is something I've been trying to figure out lately, and the proper answer seems elusive: I'm wondering what your stance is on the implementation of Class T fuses in DIY battery builds? In what type of system/scenario might you consider a Class T fuse to be a sensible and necessary design component? It seems to me that in some cases it is overkill, and not likely to be necessary. I see Victron now has a Class T Lynx Power In/Distributor...so perhaps there is some trend toward the use of this fuse. Also I recently ordered an aerosol fire extinguisher pod from Ali which is supposed to fully extinguish an electrical fire when properly installed, and I will be installing this in the battery compartment. Since I am going to run an 8s2p config for my battery, I would most likely be using 1 Class T on each side of the battery bank. (My build is a ~13kWh 25.6V 230Ah Battery consisting of (16) 230aH CALB cells + 2x JBD AP21S004 v.1.2 BMS. CALB factory spec sheet states around 245aH actual cell capacity although I have yet to confirm this). Cheers Andy, and thank you very much for creating an environment in which the education is indistinguishable from the entertainment!
@OffGridGarageAustralia
@OffGridGarageAustralia 12 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback. This made my day (even it is still morning here). A Class T fuse is not a bad thing and due to its high current breaking capacity especially suitable for large DC currents. However, you will still need a switch for your battery bank to disconnect it as well which can withstand high DC currents. I'm sure this will be a requirement for most countries. So, here is my thinking of using a DC breaker instead which combines both requirements. The NOARK, I'm using have 25kA breaking capacity and are therefore even higher rated than a Class T fuse. And I can turn off the circuit easily for maintenance or fault finding. There is of course the space requirements for such a breaker and it is not the go-to solution for all situations. But with the right planning and system design, I would always prefer a breaker.

Please help me a bit. Not directly related to this video. I need to get in touch with JKBMS support and it's broken on their site and they are not answering a direct email. How do I get in touch with them? They sent me the balancing cables that do not match the schematic and I am afraid to risk turning it on

Hi Andy Had to get your attention because your endorsing the Hankzor BMS Store. I have had a bad experience with them. From your infamous NEEEEY video's, I learned I don't have version 4.0 which I ordered because of missing new app. features you showed all of us. I purchased two units, each at a different time, turns out they both are version 3.2. I want to share with you and everyone the truth about the store including the "off grid garage" youtube channel. I asked the Hankzor store repeatedly about this, but keep getting the run around why the missing features in the app. They said v4.0 were sent. I have now leaned they lied.

@@mastergool No, I would not use optimizers at all. They only optimize the profit of the manufacturer of such devices. There is only one case when they work a tiny bit better than without: panels in the same string pointing in different directions.
