Spent the weekend at the cabin trying to get bedroom finished. Got most of the ceiling boards installed after insulating upper wall pocket.
South facing side of cabin has been getting lots of sun exposure especially in fall and winter when trees are bare. Decided to put a coat of timber oil on that side to protect against UV.

just my thing. lol #1 made the roof a deck, #2 start from the top and gone down to the end when appling the 2x6's, #3 put a small stair case or ladder going to the deck either inside or out /railing, #4 buy a sawzall, but all in all it is GREAT man.

A great bedroom. I know I asked about heat before but I forgot whether the stove would heat the entire cabin. I am sure it will be nice to have the extra space to have a permanent bed.

Didn’t realize you were in Middle TN. Whereabouts? I am building a log cabin down in Belviderefrom an Original Log Cabin Homes kit, but will also be building some smaller off grid cabins. Love your work. I have a few acres on a river in Cookeville that I’d love to build on as well. Currently we live in Murfreesboro.

Thanks. It's Australian Timber oil. Not sure of exact color. I only put it on the south facing side to get more UV protection. I may decide to use it all over eventually.

Awesome build. Question: Why use the Japanese burn method on outside walls and then stain it! Is it to give it some color or protection? If protection wouldn’t the burn technique take care of the preservation aspect? Just curious. Luv the build and videos. Curious on why the last few rows on bedroom roof were 1/2 planks vs full planks like rest of roof. I’m sure you have a reason. Thanks!!

@@TheOffGridExperience unfortunately in lab tests charring does not affect wood infestation by subterranean termites. Perhaps something to research considering how much work you’ve poured into this beautiful labor of love.

Jamie Was that a Cabot stain that you used on your exterior? We have settled on a black stain for our logs, and was thinking about the Cabot Timber Oil for the cedar trim.

It was Cabot Timber Oil. I only put it on the south facing side of cabin due to sun fading. It gets a lot of sun exposure in fall/winter but not so much in spring/summer.. I hope the oil protects against UV.

Can you do a video, or at least just answer in a reply to this comment, on modifications to the wood stove on your front porch you cook on? Looks like you've removed the block in the top of the fire box. I have the same model and can't get mine to burn worth crap, let alone be able to cook on it.

I haven’t really done any modifications to it at all. I do use pine scrap wood to burn mostly so that may help get the fire going a bit. I don’t think mine had block at the top though.

@@TheOffGridExperience I use a Delta Ecoflow and two 100 watt panels. I can go up to 4, 100 watt panels and it will run a house. Refrigerator, lights, fans, a pump for your water...ect. I wish I was a young Man again so I could do what you have done. It is just totally brilliant in design. Definitely insulate your floors with the foam board and cover it with heavy plastic...keep the critters from using it as nesting material. Lol Hope you have a nice Lake or River close for Fishing. Awesome job!!!

@@TheOffGridExperience Ecoflow Delta Pro is $3000.00 but it is probably the best there is. I watched a video on it. The guy ran Two power washers...they take a lot of power. He hooked it up to his breaker box very easily and his Wife was using the 220V dryer. Didn't even big it down. But you won't need two. Just one with (4) 100 watt panels. I've had mine for 3 years. If you can afford it, it will work very well for you.

You're a master craftsman...an artist!! You could take a friend and start building these cabins for others and you'd make a darn fine living!!
