What did you expect, after all these are muricans. Made the front back and sides from concrete, why not pour the whole bloody thing at once? Muricans have been prepared to be homeless for decades, or is there a different reason to make "houses" from cardboard?

he already stated that, they didn't have a clue what they were doing....had never done this before. It's a "see-if-we-can-do-it DIY" project.....My hats off to the guys and anyone else that attempts ANYTHING. I learned to build my first stone wall with my great-uncle when I was 10 years old. From that....I learned that I could learn anything else that any other man can do. EVERYONE starts from zero!! I always ask anyone that critiques another's work....."Where you born with a driver's license? Did the doctor have to pull it out of your ass? Or did you learn from somebody else?" I have educated and trained hundreds of people, men and women how to do things and accomplish skills, tasks and projects over my lifetime. AND...I still can learn new tricks!

So, anybody watching wants to know, start with all the dry mortar at the front of the wheelbarrow or mortar tub and a small pool of water in the back, right in front of your belly. Use a hoe to pull in a little powder and mix it soupy. All smooth, no lumps. Pull in an blend a little more, right from the closest edge of the pile, like caving in a hillside. The stuff in the front top of the pile stays there dry. Continue in the back where you are mixing to get the right consistency, and dish out a pail for the brickie. Much less effort, and better mud texture.

They'll figure it out after a painful learning process. Happened to me. My neighbors came by to watch after a while into the lay and thought I looked like I knew what I was doing after the first few courses, at best they were too polite to say anything different 😂😂.

I've only done one project as a brickie's assistant, but from watching others it seems the process is as follows. First set up a line that will give you the level of the top of the course of bricks. Then you start laying by placing a bed of mortar where the new brick will lie.Finally, before placing the brick add a dollop of mortar on the end of the brick that will butt up against the bricks that are already laid. Then you plonk it onto the bed of wet mortar, level it to the line, clean up any excess mortar and throw that back into the pile you are using. Rinse and repeat until the job is done.

I’m a Bricky of 35 years and I would have loved to be there to do it with you. I would have sorted out a nice Flemish bond for you and worked out all the courses for you so there would have been no cuts and it would have taken a lot less than 8 days, but I see you really enjoyed what you were doing. I would also have sorted that awful mortar out for you too. It takes some balls to do a vaulted brick ceiling when you have no experience of bricklaying. I will say, the bricks should always be layed flat on the form, you should never have to put wooden shims underneath the bricks and absolutely no mortar between the form or the underside face of the brick. Good job anyway, we’ll done.

growing up, my next door neighbor was a brick mason. I had the opportunity to participate when he and his family (wife, three daughters, and two sons) built an addition on their house, a separate one car garage, and a fire pit. I also had the opportunity to observe him and his oldest son who also became a mason do a couple of jobs for me as subcontractors when i owned my own construction company. I've never done a lot of brick work, don't ever really want to, but it was painful to watch the first attempt at getting mortar to the right consistency, then applying it to the bricks in preparation for placement. The happy thought, though, is that masonry is a very forgiving medium and thousands of years of doing things under disparate, harsh, and substandard conditions have proven that, since lots of ancient stone structures are still standing. Great job, guys, new sub. Enjoying your work. Missing my dad and the times we used to work together like this.

For objects built on curvature As I understand it, Hook's Law S/R = 10 ,when S is the width and R is radius, when the width divided by the height or radius is has an approximate value 10. The force is equal to the Earth's gravitational force. But if the height or radius is less than that value , the force will spread to the side. Objects can be made to dissipate gravity without falling off the ground.The part will be more or less hard depending on the material on the surface of the object used to make the roof.

Get a bigger trawl shake up that mortar it to dry. Also just butter 1 end of the brick after you trowl mortar down on top of the previous course. Geez,z it's killing me to watch. At least you are DIY ing it you will be a brick layer buy time your finnished. It's going to look awesome inside when finnished. God love you man.
@geoffreykail91299 ай бұрын
you should have your bricks soaking in a bucket so when you lay them they don't suck all the moisture out of the mortar and then the mortar will adhere better. You are a brave soul laying a brick ceiling with limited brick experience.

I’d be dunking the bricks in water prior to laying and have a higher cement volume in the mud with a bit more water. Is there any plasticiser in the mud?

@anthonyburke56568 ай бұрын
I’ve never trusted the Mk1 eyeball. First, I’ve always made “Gauge Boxes” doesn’t matter the volume, because you measure by reference to the number of boxes, if you experiment and find you need a half or some other variable, make a box that size. I also make the boxes tough and waterproof. But try to keep them light. On some projects I’ve had to make large boxes and put handles on them for a two man lift (for example into a mixer). Though these days they have those nifty mixers that go on a bobcat. These days, for larger projects, they also have those nifty bins that go on a bobcat.

I think a monolithic dome would go up faster and be a lot safer. Blow up an air bag, gunnite some polyurethane foam, tie rebar 12" on center, gunnite 4" of concrete. Backfill up to 25' underground. It's up in a few days. You can re-use the bags 13 times so you could make a bunch of root cellars in a star pattern.

@@carllemyre2289 That's just the figure put out by monolithic dome institute on the number of uses the tyvek material was good for. Maybe they got something better now that might hold up better for more uses.
