6.2 Ecotec 3 is a great engine once you swap the cam, valve springs, valve rocker needle bearings, and lifters. After that run premium fuel and you should be good to go for a long time

Don't you just love the fact that Bob was around while Scott was working! That is what I miss about losing my Dad, even though it was in 1976, it is something you still miss. Heart felt best wishes to you all, and hope the engine stays together for a long time. Thanks from UK.

Scott, FYI GM flex plates have 1 elongated hole, you put the first bolt there, and it will align all of the holes so you can torque everything 1 time around. Unless you filled your coolant with a airlift you are most likely going to have an air pocket in the cooling system, possibly trapping air in your rear heater core...

Back in the 80s gm Camshafts went flat at 30000 miles. Non of the manufacturers could keep paint on anything. Nobody can build a transmission that will last more than 80000 miles

@@robinplaylist1 I didn't know that GM cams went into the 80's. late 70's, 77,78 they had a few batches of soft metal cams that went flat (at least on Impalas, my brother knows, haha - he flattened my dad's 78 impala 305 engine - by beatin on it when he was 16 or 17, and learned how to rebuild an engine that weekend with my dad staring at him - haha). I have had good luck with mid 80's oldsmobile 307's. last one I got 286,000 and this one I have 120,000 and hopefully get the same as the last. Maybe it was 80's trucks - 350's? I don't know. I have 212,000 on my 1995 gmc 2500 350 engine and still running strong - knock on wood.

I really enjoy seeing the love and respect you show your dad. I worked beside mine most of my adult life on our farm. He died of brain cancer last June 13 and left a giant void in out lives. He both loved the Lord and served Him his entire life, so he was prepared for glory. Our world is void of allot of love these days. Your content is uplifting especially for an old farm boy.

The 2016 has been used by our 3 grandsons when their personal vehicles are broke down, and of course when our main rides break down we have the 2016 to drive. Farm families always need an extra truck.

Hi Scott! I feel your pain with the motor. I have a 2016 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.6 Duramax (which I love and my 5th Chevrolet truck). The CP4 fuel pump had a massive internal failure (50k on the clock). Wiped out everything when it sent metal bits far and wide in the fuel system. It was a bad day at Black Rock Canyon when that happened. The bill for that joyous event, well; we don't talk about that. It was painful...... Like you said, what happened to American made equipment? Yeah, it was outsourced overseas for parts..... All the best to you and your family. Thank you for sharing as always.

You sure know motors. I got the kids a 65 mustang when they were in high school. Being the mother I didn’t know anything about motors. Make a long story short, the gas throttle got caught on the exhaust manifold and she couldn’t slow down the car but managed to get home. My friend’s husband was like you he could work on anything. So over the phone he told me how to fix it. I was so happy with myself. I’m sure you are very happy with all you figure out and fix on engines. It is a great talent to have. God Bless you and your family.

Bob, i get a charge out of watching you work and joke with your boy's, coby looked like he got a charge out of it to lol. Hi Scott, I think ditching those needle bearings for the brass bushings was a good choice. Putting needle bearings in the rocker arm's makes no sense, and just seeing the one's that had already fallen into your crank case was bad, the brass with a snap ring on each end seems much better. Hopefully this rig gets another 300,000 thousand miles, because I'm with you guy's on the new stuff. A lot of people are keeping or buying the older more reliable vehicle's and putting five to ten thousand into them, because the new stuff is outrageously expensive, and less reliable. I think you were wise getting the other vehicle, and also fixing the failure prone issue's to make it last is what I'd do as well. G-d bless.

A topside creeper is a really handy piece of shop equipment when working on the trucks. Exhaust manifold bolts suffer from dissimilar metals (aluminum cylinder heads, steel bolts, cast iron exhaust manifolds) leading to galvanic corrosion. The accelerator pedal trick when starting is ok, but pulling the fuel pump fuse is more definite and works for all EFI engines.

Just bought a truck, the DoD was a huge reason I went with a 3/4 ton. The 6.6 gas is a heck of a motor.

Scott, I believe there is a kit available for your 6.2 in your new truck that can reprogram the computer system that will eliminate the computer from dropping cylinders for gas mileage. Basically making it run like a regular V8 with out dropping any cylinders.
