In this video, I use our Tadano 180g-5 to install new antennas on an existing cell tower. This tower job ended up running into the night time. Which is terrible for crane work. Especially on tower work.
The crane is configured with 197 feet of main boom, 83 feet of jib, 26,000 pounds of counterweight and full span outriggers.

Jimmy you did great job there, I run slinger/signaller coarse over here in Scotland and those guys were absolutely terrible on the radio, they obviously have never heard of the 3 second rule in communicating with the crane driver. They really tested your patience on that job!

It had to be frustrating to constantly prompt them just to find out how much further to go and in which direction. At least everyone remained safe at the end of that work day.

You need to arrange a pan/tilt camera out on the end of the boom.

Ran into this situation a couple months ago. Had 210 of main boom out with 138 of fixed jib. The job was literally in a cow pasture with really crappy access. Thought we would do the job and then come back the next day to break down. Negative. The assist crane we used had to be on a different job in the morning, so had to break down that night. By the time it was all said and done, I got back to our yard just before midnight, then had a 45 minute drive home. I was pooped the next day. Great video. Thanks for posting.

BTW...I hope I never get stuck working with this crew. Their signals leave a lot to be desired. The crew I had on the day I mentioned above was excellent! Very professional and very efficient. I'm sure they aren't all like that, but I got lucky I guess....lol

Love the view in the beginning. My most favorite shots show the rig from the side or from far back. Love seeing the tires run and the massive size of the truck on the road.

First of all, well done on the editing job. I really appreciate the time you take to put these really long days together. Secondly, holy cow... I have very little time working at height with a crane. All my time was at 50' and about 75' radius. I learned really quickly that the crane operator really appreciated constant or at least frequent signals to give him a better idea where things were. I cannot fathom how frustrating it would be to try and set precision equipment blind at 240'. Thank you for your patience and bringing us along! Ron

Patience in a night time situation is certainly a virtue Jimmy. You've got that in spades. Interesting antenna upgrade. Do you know if it was for 5G? Gotta love those western Missouri sunsets. I miss them.

It's unbelievable how many times people tell you the size or weight of an object and it's wrong when you get there. 🤔

gotta love cell towers over here in seattle my personal record so far is 36hrs straight from the time i got on site tell i left the site. cell work is 60% of the work we do and it helps the check but these guys up there have no idea what they are doing with a crane 90% of the time.

Makes for a long day with radio communications like that I've been there done that. eartec are duplex helps out a ton when the tag person is like that. Makes me upset to listen to them could be SOOO much better and they do not know its them that are the weak link.

Hey Jimmy, been a while (Im Zinan Watts, you might remember me, changed my username) ive got a dilemma and I need help so, I do trees, usually they are in a back yard at a 60-100ft radius, and I need to be over the top so 100+ on the tip height the crane we run right now is a 30102WL manitex, it has A frame outriggers and doesnt fit in many spots because of that, also super limited on capacity (sub 2000 pounds usually) would you rather a shorter stick crane that has to be real close, BUT will fit in tight spots and low outrigger load on driveways, or would you want a 50 ton with 150ft of boom, be able to short jack it and can reach most any tree due to the simple fact it fits where the current 30 ton will but has 50% more boom? oh and the 50 ton im looking at (NBT50L) has almost 4X the capacity of the 30 ton for the same radius also, can we see more boom truck content? I know you spend more time on the bigger stuff BUT id love some boom truck videos, especially on setup and cribbing

Would it made sense to run with another insert and additional counterweight even if the tower was 240ft. Was there a disadvantage doing that? BTW, glad to see you back and agree with your thought on different contents

Boy, if you are going to have to work with that crew a lot, maybe a pan/tilt/zoom security camera mounted on the top of the boom would be helpful. Then you might be able to see the stuff they aren't telling you about.
