Want to know how to build a soundproof studio in your home? Are you trying to learn to acoustically treat your room for better sounding recordings and mixes? Many producers confuse insulation with acoustic treatment, which leads to wasted time and money, not to mention problems with the neighbors! Even more expert musicians struggle with bass traps, absorbers and their placement, density, rockwool vs fiberglass, the use of acoustic clouds, etc. In this video, you will see a real life example of a studio designed and built from the ground up, in my basement! Enjoy!

@@andretonelli Indeed! I've seen some of your short videos about the progress of your studio. I wonder what's the first song that you've recorded once the studio was completed?

This was really interesting. I would imagine the temperature doesn't vary that much because of all of the insulation.

This looks amazing! How did you get the fabric on the bass traps so tight? Did you use staples? What side of the beams did you attach it to?
@andretonelli
@andretonelli Жыл бұрын
Over 6000 staples. All by hand! All stapled to the front, then the whole thing is covered on the sides to make it look nice!

Hi! This looks so great! Can you share the approximate cost of the conversion?
@andretonelli

It's hard to tell, because the demolition was part of the renovation, as well as basics such as electrical, flooring, etc. It would be a few thousands to build within an existing room. This was more, but it was part of the reno. Sorry for not being more precise. Andre

Beautiful build. Haw large is the studio? And was was you estimated final cost? Cheers.
@andretonelli
@andretonelli 10 ай бұрын
The final measures are about 6x4 meters. Cost is hard to say, since it was done during a complete renovation that included some parts of it (demolition, electrical, some of the flooring…). Also, the design of the studio and all the acoustic treatment was done by me. Assuming no demolition and just adding soundproofing to a room, I’d say a few thousands. Andre

Question for a future video: Do you have any advice for new, or Especially returning guitarists, to avoid the rut of getting into playing tabbed music, and develop true musicality instead? It's a big topic, but I've kind of petered out on learning guitar several times. I learn some songs I like to a pretty decent level, have fun for a while, but then playing other people's music kind of loses its appeal. After all, I can always cue up their album on record or Tidal and get a high fidelity recording of the real deal rather than my clumsy approximation. Basically, how can we become true musicians and not just copycats? Great video, I can't wait to build something analogous once my partner and I buy our first home.

What a great comment. I would suggest doing away with tabs completely and use you ear. And most importantly write your own music. It doesn’t need to be a masterpiece a day, but writing and recording your own music will get you there quickly (and mercilessly, too). There is a good video in there, but I will have to meditate on this a bit more. In the meantime, certainly demo some of your own songs, and if you do end up on Tidal, it might as well be my records you are listening to! 😀 jk I wish you luck on your future studio! Andre

@@andretonelli absolutely man, I'm sure it's a big topic that you'd like to devote some proper thought to. Can't wait to see it once it's out. And thanks for those tips, I will put that to work once I'm done rebuilding my guitar. I bought a nearly like-new condition Jackson JS20 Dinky, and have ripped out all the guts and am redoing everything. Graph tech nut and saddles, Fender locking tuners, all new pots and switches and wiring, chiselled out the single coil cavity at the neck so it could take a humbucker, and am rolling a push-pull coilsplit SD Nazgul in the bridge/ Sentient in the neck, with a Lollar Special in middle position. And finally I used foil tape to insulate all the electronics. Should be a fun rig to work with once it's all done :D

Hi there. It's hard to put a number on it because the demolition was already part of the Reno for the whole house. And, it's been a few years and prices have soared, at least where I live. I also did all the acoustics myself, as you saw in the video. I think realistically, anywhere from 8 to 20k depending on size/scope. Sorry for the late reply! Andre
