I had a plan as to what cabinets I would add to my library/office but after watching your video I have decided to make many changes. Every cabinet maker out there suggests a toe kicks so I didn't give it that much thought but your build without toe kicks looks so much better and will allow me to add baseboard molding, after I make it, to the bottom of the cabinet so it matches the rest of the room. Adding the crown and in my case the baseboard molding before redoing the molding in that room will also make it a lot easier when I replace the crown molding and reattach the rest of the baseboard molding I need to remove so the cabinet looks like it belongs in the room is a smart idea. It will also make finishing the room so much easier as construction fatigue sets in. Altogether it is a beautiful cabinet. I own a house built in 1893-96 and the closets are oddly sized to say the least. I know how frustrating it is to dig into an over stuffed closet and having to add additional lighting just to easily find a particular outfit. I realize that I will have to add a few inches at the bottom to allow for the baseboard molding but that is a minor issue. I am saving this video to watch again before I redo my plans. Great build!

Nice work. We have a walk-in closet in our 60s home as well as a wall with two closets with sliding doors. It takes up a whole wall. I wanted fit out the walk-in with built ins as well as remove the doors and wall between them closets. Then make a large insert with a spot for a TV like you did. With drawer storage and make some full cabinets for full length and half link along with maybe some shoe storage. Would just make it a bit for functional.

Great build. Not sure if everyone watching can appreciate your above level skill, competency and efficiency. I have worked at a number of cabinet shops and construction companies so hopefully my praise has some value. We need to learn to adjust pitch and intonation for emphasis, and color when explaining and describing processes..

Awesome job as usual! Love the build process and your builds always feel approachable. Quick question, do you only have the 55” track for the Milwaukee track saw? @JohnBuildsIt

No I ordered the 106” too. I’d just start with the 55” and get a feel for what you want and works for you. For my makita I just have 2 of the 55” that I join together for long rips
@esterndesign
@esterndesign Жыл бұрын
@@JohnBuildsIt thanks for your reply. Was just curious since I saw you cut a long rip by moving the smaller length one (from what I could tell at least). I have heard mixed reviews on joining the two 55” tracks together vs a 106” long one. Things to think about. At least starting with a 55” one. Thanks.
@JohnBuildsIt
@JohnBuildsIt Жыл бұрын
@@esterndesign the long tracks getting damaged in shipping is a big problem, but I will say my Milwaukee arrived safe and is dead on straight. On joining 55” tracks, I don’t know why, but every track I’ve seen, the ends don’t come perfectly square. So they do usually need trimmed then they can be joined with no issues. Oh and on that cut where I was moving the track, that wasn’t one long straight cut haha wavy wall! Thanks for watching man!

I bought that edge band trimmer at Menards and I absolutely hate using it. The blades keep shifting on me even if the bolt is tightened properly and I just don't feel like it offers me the level of control I want. I thought I've seen you use a different trimmer in the past. Am I mistaken?

You have this yellow one I’m using here? Man this is the only one I’ve found that actually works good for me! I’ve tried probably 4 different ones of the 2 sided style, nothing but frustration. Before I found this I was just using a plain razor blade

@@JohnBuildsIt Yes, I do. When it works for me, it leaves a great finish, but when it doesn't I just get frustrated. The latter happens about 75% of the time. The blades on mine keep "unseating" themselves as if the plastic separates just a hair too much. I have to re-seat them and tighten it back up. I might try a more rigid backer plate, if you will, to alleviate that. Maybe mine's a lemon. I'm a bit skeptical of the two-sided ones because I'm afraid of a tear-out on one side depending on the grain direction. I'll keep tinkering with it. It doesn't help that I hate applying edge banding!

Why do most builders not like pocket holes and screws?

Some people misuse them for furniture, etc. Cabinetry like this is what they’re intended for

Looks really great. I tensed up every time you installed hardware or pocket screws with an impact. How does that red kool-aid taste?

If you're drilling a hole - use a drill. Anything else is best handled with an impact. It's definitely one of my favorite tools.
Drawer slides are expensive. Do this instead.
