I've an idea for the Fluval EVO 13.5: For a 20% water change (10L). Half heat up 2 or 3 kettle fulls of unsalted RO water and add to the salty cold bucket of water to bring the temp up to 27 Degrees Celsius, whilst ensuring correct salinity. (I'm too cheap to buy a second heater)

Been out of this for a while but I really see RODI as just another way to get you to waste quid. When I was a lad it was tap after you let it sit for three days and then you could add something to make sure it's gone but that was another 24h. Also I was known to use filter rain water and distilled water at times.

Thanks for another informative video....I was at my LFS yesterday and they offered RO water at 15p per litre but what I was sort of confused to see was natural Dorset seawater at 40p per litre! Or 10 pounds per 25l the water had a gravity of 1.027,I took a picture of the a4 laminated sign because I didn't believe that seawater would be suitable for aquarium use which is something you have confirmed for me,it makes me wonder about their stock tanks now, are they kept running with Dorset seawater too I do hope not....another thing I noticed was that the corals etc for sale were also kept in with a few fish and shrimp etc is that normal practice? Should the corals be kept separate to fish to reduce the risk of parasites once transferred to a home tank?

Indeed! I would stay clear of the sea water if I were you. an SG of 1.027 is high, if my memory serves me correctly only the red sea has a salt concentration that high. either way it is unacceptably high from a parasite control point of view and some thing is definitely amiss! regarding keeping fish with corals. its not unusual to keep a one or two herbivores in with the corals to keep algae under control, as long as they are healthy. you may see the odd dragonet also that will not take prepared or frozen food, in an attempt to stop it from starving to death.

Is that 875g of salt per 25l of water? So mixing 50l would 1750g? And all that goes in the tank?

actually it depends on the salt your using those figures are correct, but I recently discovered some brands require up to 1KG for the same volume of water.

@@UrbanBotanical140 cheers pal, ill get the salt in person from my lfs when get chance, that way can read what's needed, altho I intend to get the biggest I can so should be plenty anyways, think I seen the one u use in the vid online so that options there if needed 👍🏻 Keep.up the great work can't wait for.more.vids

I would strongly advise against it Scott especially in a Nano tank. if hair algae is a problem this would treat the symptom but not the cause so it would eventually come back. The cause would be high Nitrates/phosphates. a build up of detritus in the rocks concerned and possibly too much light. if you buy your water I would suggest you test it for nitrates and phosphates, some shops can be lax about changing their cartridges. I would also consider leaving the lights off for a few weeks, and use some sort of nitrate and phosphate remover. examine whether your perhaps feeding too much? and step up your water changes. there is no quick permanent fix for nuisance algae.
