OH NO! I was hoping the Fluval was going to be seriously expensive, a cost that i couldn't justify, but it's REALLY reasonable! Here we go again.

Really looking forward to this series. I Have kept tropical for many years now, and have been really wanting to get into a reef setup. I didn’t want to through a load of money at it with limited experience so this setup, and your expert advice should see me through that first initial period. 👍

Iv been looking at getting a marine tank for ages now and not pulled the trigger yet because I wanted to do it right, I'm looking at getting the spec 60 marine version, just because its got them few extra litres on this one, is there an heater that the temp can be easily seen on from across the room? I'm also looking at poss upgrade the lights to the one with Bluetooth so can use app and have loads of different light settings in the future 👍🏻 would be nice to go all techi at some point ... Great videos can't wait to follow u more and get going, think I might pull the trigger on tank right now and start buying things bit by bit for a while

I wish common people here in the U.S. were as committed and willing to put the work into maintaining aquariums such as yourself. You will find goldfish in 1 gallon bowls left and right around here. Of course the people who actually research these things sustain healthy aquariums, but a sad amount of people go off of myths and lazy habits.

I'd love to setup a reef tank, but know I wouldn't be able to maintain one. I love the aesthetics, but care more about the fish's life. Sadly, unlike a lot of people who put their bettas in vases.

You think he’d advocate quarantine then after running an aquatic shop, no straight from the bag Into the tank, bad habit that will end very badly one day
@stuartfillingham7011
@stuartfillingham7011 Жыл бұрын
Whats the point of quarantine if these are the only fish to inhabit the tank? You talk the big talk but clearly dont understand the basics of parasite control. As you say in your previous comment you introduced white spot in to your own tank but clearly still don't understand why it happened.
@jimelliott33

@@stuartfillingham7011 I introduced infected fish into my display tank at the very start of my marine journey 4 years ago, learnt very quickly that quarantine is the only way to go, your correct if these fish are the only fish you are ever going to have in this tank and these fish have been together in the shop then you can make a decision to not quarantine, if they have arrived from separate shops I would quarantine as the other fish might not have a good resilience to a particular parasite, I understand very well parasite control, and the best way controlling parasites is to prevent them entering a tank by way of quarantine and copper treatment, this non quarantine works for this tank but education is key and to show in a video putting fish straight in from a shop is a bad habit and bad fish husbandry for most marine keepers with already established tanks or tanks you would look to add stock to at a later date, to add, when I infected my main display after a year of it being set up, fully established with many corals, it then needed to be fully stripped down, all corals and rocks removed to even have a chance at removing fish, a massive under taking and one that could have been avoided if quarantine was carried out, takes one fish, one piece of coral carrying a fish parasite and you could potentially lose your entire tank, this was not a direct dig at you I’m sorry if it came across that way but I think it’s extremely important to educate people at a foundation level in videos at the importance of quarantine and therefore why you chose not to quarantine on this occasion

There is always something to be learnt, there is always a better way to do things, I comment on my observations, it wasn’t a personal attack on you I just know that newcomers always fall into the same trap, lack of education, marine shops selling fish with no regard over their welfare, I’ve been there and experienced that, I believe in passing on my experience, you can make money and do things for as many years as you care to make up but it doesn’t mean your doing it right

Never trust any shop, any aquatics centre, anyone.. that that fish invert or coral isn’t coming into your home with a parasite or pest, people need to learn the fundamentals of fish keeping before going into this hobby because they want a pretty glass box in there house, I’ve done it and got the T-shirt, went bounding in spent £100’s of pounds on fish and introduced white spot to my 500 litre tank, luckily I saved half the fish and treated but that tiny clown of piece of coral can undo all your hard work if you don’t follow quarantine procedure, it does take the fun out and costs a bit more on extra kit but it will save you headache and time in the long run, all fish should be treated in copper (seachem cupramine) to 0.5 concentration on arrival, a hanna checker is the only accurate way to test for this daily throughout, you should hold this concentration for 14 days, the concentration should also be ramped up slowly as per seachems recommendation, maintain water quality checked especially ammonia everyday throughout, have facility to mechanically filter the water and aerate heavily, I always employ a skimmer in a quarantine tank and the addition of an air pump, copper lowers absorbed oxygen, if fish are struggling with copper or showing signs of I’ll health pull them out into a no copper tank, this method requires you to have two tanks ready to go one treatment tank for copper and one non copper so you can be ready to take a fish out if required, only ever quarantine one fish at a time, I generally arrive fish into an observation tank (non copper) for a week or two sometimes just to make sure the fish are feeding and settled before starting copper treatment, after copper I then revert fish back to the non copper tank (after full water change and thorough cleaning for a further 30 days observation before the fish even enters my main tank, corals get isolated in a coral only grow out tank for 76 days after being coral dipped and removed from shop frag plugs, inverts also get quarantined exactly the same for 76 days
