Join us on our DIY adventure as we build a practical and space-saving raised bed platform in our cozy off grid tiny house!
Discover how we transformed this small living space into a comfortable, multifunctional area for sleeping and relaxing after a hard day of work on the homestead, using clever design and budget-friendly solutions.
We'll demonstrate how we built a sturdy framework for the platform from wood, learning some new carpentry skills along the way, to ensure stability and durability while minimising the use of space.
You'll also see how our design gives us plenty of clever storage solutions, utilising the area beneath the bed to maximise storage space in our tiny home.

We're building a 8 sqm tiny house, to serve as a temporary home as we renovate the stone barn in Spain into the home of our dreams.
Subscribe to our channel to watch our journey here on KZfaq, as we document the full build process of our cabin, the barn conversion tiny house build, and establishing our homestead using regenerative agriculture and permaculture techniques.
And follow us over on Instagram for more behind the scenes snaps and clips too - @smithsdale_farm - / smithsdale_farm
About Us:
We're Danny and Kate. In 2015 we moved from the UK to Barcelona, and after a few years enjoying the busy city, sunny beaches and snow-capped mountains it's time for a new adventure. We've recently bought land in Spain, in the mountains of Catalunya, to build a mortgage free tiny house and start a self-sustainable off-grid homestead to live off the land.

Thanks. We have thought about that, but the mattress won’t be laid out permanently so should allow the wood to breathe. And we’re going to protect it with a sealer too. We can always add holes at a later date if we think we need them 👍🏻

amazing....I recently purchased a 10,000m2 Finca near Alicante, we have 120 Olive trees and some Almond Trees and a few old buildings . I'm following you guys because my dream is to renovate everything and maintain these amazing trees. We got out first Olive Oil from the trees last year. ...its incredible. Although we don't live there permanently we are now renovating everything ...your story resonates with us 100%. You're both doing an amazing job...good luck for the future 💪

@Smithsdale Farm yes I saw what they done to your trees.... I wonder why they did that... I thought maybe they had some disease...its quite common. I know you said it was for firewood but it seems strange. Looking forward to seeing more videos....solar panels were a game changer for us...found a really good company from Valencia area to install, have been great...all the best

Very professional first go at wood joints. And you managed to get wood that is not warped. In Spain that's an achievement. Good luck with the remainder of the platform

Thank you! Oh yeah! Wood here is a nightmare most of the time. We actually got this from a wood merchant called Cado in Tortosa in the end - the best prices, friendly helpful staff, and really good quality and choice of wood!

Great job, well done! I loved it when you touched your head when you said "Touch Wood". I thought it was just my family that did that. One of my sisters taught me it many many years ago, " Wood from the tree of knowledge and the board of education"☺

As far as the carpentry goes, I should say you were fast learners. I'm not a great carpenter either, but I have found that the kinds of softwood that you are using are in some ways more difficult to work with than hardwoods. It can be too easy to remove too much! I expect you know that by now!

Thanks! At least these were pretty simple joints… but yes, we found the wood a bit temperamental! Especially if there was a knot hidden in there too!!
