We have a loooong list of projects and tasks in mind for 2024, both big and small. Homestead maintenance and land regeneration, house renovation, new builds, repairs, new trees, old trees, to name a few...
In this video we've narrowed down our big ambitious goals for 2024 into the 9 major ones we think will be most impactful to living our dream life in the countryside in Spain.
Thank you for following our journey.
¡Un gran abrazo desde Smithsdale Farm!

[ABOUT US]
We're Danny and Kate. In 2015 we moved from the UK to Barcelona, and after 8 years enjoying the busy city and sunny beaches we moved to the mountains to start a new adventure. We'll be renovating a town house, building an off grid cabin, restoring an old stone house and farming 12.5 acres of land with regenerative agriculture and permaculture practices in Catalunya, Spain.

We’re looking forward to achieving a lot more now that we live so close to our land. In addition to our 9 major goals, we have a whole load of other things on our list that we’d like to do too... - finish off the cabin so we can have family camping nights - renovate the nursery and the guest bedroom - get a trailer - join more community gatherings and so many more…! Thanks for watching 💚 Danny, Kate, Isabelle and Paco x

Yes, lovely ideas indeed. When you are deviating the water at the cisterna, deviate the exes water to your vegetables garden.

Ideas: 1 - Podcast. You could do shows on renovation plans, orcharding and gardening, etc. Interview guests about best techniques for building, growing, and so on. In addition to the usual podcast outlets, like iTunes, you could film the podcast episodes and post them to KZfaq. 2 - Branded agriculture products. When your trees start treeing, make plum wine, fig wine, etc. You could do the same with other products. 3 - Solicit sponsors. If you're going to employ a new left handed tent stake turner or whatever, see if a maker will provide it and/or pay you to talk about their product on camera. 3a - I see lots of other sponsors who pay for mentions on channels that have little or nothing to do with the channel topic. SurfShark and RayCon are two that come to mind right off.

You’ve got lots of good ideas for generating income and I loved the children’s book idea. Stories around Smithdale Farm would be fab and help to create a brand. Losing your job at such a vulnerable time must have been difficult but the world is now your oyster. Slick videos are very time consuming for you so build up your on line presence with shorts, reels etc. The vlog style is just as watchable as the fully edited videos. Good luck.

First time watching your videos. Looking forward to watching your progress. I wouldn't worry too much about stating your goals, rather tell of your achievements. All the best with your orchard. All the best for 2024. Cheers from Sydney, Australia.

Many exciting projects, looking forward to see all that :D And I wish you financial luck! Maybe a blog with affiliate links of all tools you use could be helpful, paid collabs for linkbuilding, and like you mentioned e-books etc :)

You sure do have a huge long list!😊 Go easy ❤. Something about figs. You could propagate them easily. I used to go round my neighborhood to pick them up. I freeze, making jam or dry them..😅

Great idea! I think we’re going to try that this week with some fig cuttings. We’ve been watching some videos about those, and mulberries. And it’s the time to do them now!

You’ve got lots of projects. With a new baby and new house I think just 6 projects would be more achievable. You don’t need to run yourself into the ground. The terrain of your land is hard work to say the least. Redirect your water towards your veggie patch, even if it’s not gallons of water it is still more than they have now! I’m enjoying your journey❤

Thank you ☺️ yes we’ll be pushing the water off to the side just above the planned veg patch. It should get to it 🙏

Now I'm always on the lookout for Danny's yorkshirisms which slip through the editing process 😂 Nothing too crazy this week but the "scabby" worktop made me laugh 😂

Best of luck for 2024, you've got a good set of goals, hopefully the redundancy is a door opening to better things! Great to see the orchard is about to start too! Danny, you can build yourself a guide for your saw (or a couple, I've got 3 of different lengths to suit breaking down big sheets of material). "This Old House" have a relatively simple one, I've used something similar for years (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p6-VfL2V18jeXY0.html) Small bits like the one you cut will still be tricky, you'll need to clamp the guide down onto the bench with the piece under it. If possible, actually screwing the piece to the guide can get you out of trouble there. Another option is to screw the saw to a piece of melamine (osb/plywood etc will do in a pinch) and flip it over as a makeshift table saw, then set up another piece of something straight as a fence. Sketchy, but it got me out of trouble until finances stretched to a job-site table saw. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fKyRYLqXtNHZh6M.html is getting complex, it can be a lot simpler, but it gives you the idea. Good luck!

Great to see you planting fruit trees! Hope they do well for you. The work on the cabin paid off in confidence and skill, I look forward to seeing how you realise the kitchen at your village house. Regards from Australia.

Great to see you starting on the orchard/food forest, i would suggest interplanting some nitrogen fixing plants/trees alongside the trees . White clover is an easy one to find in your local nursey , plus it self seeds itself every year so you wont need to keep planting. Best of luck !!

Sorry you lost your work/income at such pivotal time.. it can be very stressful. I hope you can quickly settle into new income streams.. if you are so handy digitally, maybe some remote digital work? Glad you are starting your fruit and veggie garden.. plant as many as you can and hope they'll take off. Success
