Building a Roundhouse Turntable for Storing Train Engines in Railroads Online!

Hey everyone and welcome back to more Railroads Online! Today I wanted to do one last thing on the freight depot before we adventure further into the wilderness and that is to build a proper turntable setup! One of the old ways of storing / maintaining engines was with a roundhouse built around a turntable so I figured since we can't yet build structures I should at least have lanes setup to park all the train engines we purchase and store ones that aren't in use!

I realize that throughout this video I say "roundtable". I believe this is my brain simply combining the words "turntable" and "roundhouse", both of which are sort of what was attempted here. I apologize for the complete lack of discipline, I can and will do better. FYI I'm not that beat up about it, people seem genuinely concerned :P

While it’s a great name, “Express” generally is used to denote a specific type of line on a PASSENGER railroad, not the rail line overall. Maybe use it as the name of the replacement Eureka when he gets around to buying it, since it’s really more of a passenger engine than a freight one?

I really like what someone else suggested: "KanRail." There was a real life railroad called "ConRail" and I just feel like that's a really clever wordplay. I named my Railroad the Acadian and Northern. One tip for making perfectly straight tracks - when you already have a track, and want to expand from it - place two 90 degree crossover pieces at the very end of it in a row. Then remove the one that is closer to your already existing tracks, so you should end up with old track, empty space, crossover piece. After you have that, to place perfectly straight rails just take the 3ft track, snap it to your old, already existing track, then snap it to the crossover piece (nearer or further part, doesn't matter) then hit ALT to maintain the angle, and bam!, next pieces of track you'll be placing will be perfectly straight. You can do the same with groundwork, as groundwork snaps to tracks the same way.

The Eureka is a good train. I saw someone pull 11 FULL log and plank cars up to the mine today. You can't just floor it though. You want to slowly up the speed and use about 80% power. You need to maintain PRESSURE. Low pressure = low power.

Trains are more tolerant of gaps than you might think, as the wheels have a flange that goes inside the rails, below the surface, and each set of wheels is in pairs, which are mounted together, giving them even a little more resistance to coming off. If you look, there is a story about a train running in NY where they had a 26" gap in the rail lol

@cory6824
@cory6824 2 жыл бұрын
Can also use a single crossover to make a straight track, instead of placing multiple and then replacing them with track. Place a crossover at a snap point. Start a track at the same snap point the crossover was placed at. Snap the track at the end of the crossover. Left Alt. Place all the track you need. Demolish the crossover.
@AlwaysSoren
@AlwaysSoren 2 жыл бұрын
@@kANGaming You can use alt, and use the default curve keybinds x and y to change it, it add a curve degree per 100 yds or meters, not sure which one they use in game. It adds that curve to the track, and if the curve doesn't let you snap to the other rail, you can use the shift key to edit the curve and grade degrees by .25%
@AlwaysSoren
@AlwaysSoren 2 жыл бұрын
@@kANGaming Also, just as a heads up, trains can cover a gap of about 4 inches if one of their wheels is a 4, and 6 inches for any larger wheels. So you can have a larger gap at your turntable, which would probably stop that issue of rails slanting up towards the middle. There's probably a hitbox in the way of the rails nearer the turntable.

Hand cats are probably in the game because of how iconic they are in the railroad industry. Before roads existed to carry people to work sites on the rails, they were the easiest way to get everyone and their tools to the work area. Nowadays motorized carts and vehicles with various levels of convertibility between road wheels and track wheels exist but people still remember handcarts so, RIP handcarts( plastic flute titanic music starts playing)

I think that you could remake the turntable with perfect gradiants. Instead of placing the rotating lane first, place the cross section first. Extend from there. Then, in the midle, place another cross section. Becouse is a scuare, it will be easier to estimate. After you extended that, then you place the rotating lane.

A few operators tips: 1. The compressor only ever needs to be at 100 when you initially fire up the locomotive. Keep it around 15 otherwise it'll destroy your steam supply 2. Eureka and most other engines don't like having their regulator thrown all the way open to get moving. Like with the compressor, it destroys your steam pressure and won't actually make you go faster. Easing Eureka up to full speed will show her best results 3. The slight bumps are probably not the rails but the engines themselves. These things are old and were designed for worse track. Don't stress about perfect Hope I helped a little

Why can’t you have very small sections of tracks connect points that will fit enough track for each engine, and THEN they all lead to the Turntable so that you can turnaround and continue down the same track and points your engine went down?

Tbh I think this is a good opportunity to expand a KZfaq career, getting in on a new game and learning about it while everyone else is can be a lot better for growth than trying to come up with new ideas in older games. Nothing wrong with it and it’s definitely entertaining but this is a definitely unique opportunity and I’m glad you’ve got it :)

Name your Trains: “kAN and Friend’s Company” or “kAN and Friend’s Railway Company” Also buy more porters (Betsy). [Also the Eureka is better at pulling more cars, the best for it is probably 15] Also the HEISLER is a pretty good train.

The Eureka seems like a good candidate for a scouting engine, maybe if/when a need for track maintenance is introduced into the game, or perhaps if there was ever a runaway and you had to go find/rescue the missing engine, or if you were building a new line, or scoping out potential roundhouse locations, it might be a good idea to have a engine that can be used for that kind of work. The Eureka has a good top speed when it's running light, and it has a very high fuel capacity, so it could be out on the line for a longer time period without having to return to the depot to refuel, which makes it a perfect scouting locomotive.

with the tenderless eureka, i say use the stone wall pieces and turn it into a monument in front of the freight depot. also, you can use the stone walls to make a round house (it'll take alittle bit to make them tall enough but might be worth it in the end). as for rail name, i've seen a few people suggest Kan-Ko and to me that sounds like a good one. can't wait to see the next video.

A tip I have for this game good way to store large lines of carts is too make a turntable with a shunt yard attached. And then use a hand cart to move it all

Kan, you could use the crossover in the middle to line up 4 of the rails then either using the turns to turn the crossover or winging it to do the diagonals
