I spent 40 years building log and timber frame structures. Here's a tip about saws and axes. Sharpening a saw, getting the teeth reset and sharpening is a lengthy process and requires you to carry more tools for that job. Tree bark collects dust that can be powdered rock. It can even contain small pebbles. Even a Silky saw will get dull really fast. before you take saw to ANY piece of wood, use your axe to remove the bark where you want to cut. Axes are a lot easier to sharpen.

Nice...looking forward to seeing the whole series. I was camping on my dad's off grid land the first time after he passed away, and it had a lot of bears around from the garbage not being taken care of. I used my tie down straps from my trunk as high as I could get them, and then used the random plywood he had around to make a platform on top of it. Put the tent up there, and now I'm obsessed with perfecting a raised sleeping area for camping. It just feels so much safer for a lone woman in the woods.

Corporal Kelly, I am not a super experienced bush-Crafter but if you need put a point on a stick after the first section of material is removed rotate the stick 90 degrees rather than 180 degrees. That way you are not expending energy cutting through the full thickness of your stick a second time. I find it faster top. Again, a suggestion, not criticism, from a 66 year old that has made many thousand tent pegs but still struggles with bow drill fires.
@handlershorizon6107

Shawn, I have watched you for the last decade and learned so much. And I don't mean in quantity. The best thing is how you simplify these larger projects aimed at smoothing it, into a few simple techniques that can be applied across the board. These refreshers on gear will be awesome for newer viewers. As someone who was along for the journey on this channel, I would love to hear more details on how long your food ingredients keep in your pack each time you make something. Maybe even how you store them for longer trips. My goal is to improve my culinary skill to Corporal level this year, but I worry about food spoiling if I go out for more than 72 hours.

Side note in historical builds they sometimes charred the surface on wood that goes into the ground, probably to avoid the wood from rotting away. For a build like this just rotate the parts of the logs that goes into the ground over a fire and they will last a lot longer. Side note thanks for the nice videos :)

ROPE TAPE!!! Haven't seen that since my days as a kid. Illinois Power, the utility company, used that stuff for all kinds of work. We used to build these when I was a kid. We had to, the ground was kind of swampy much of the time and wasn't fit for anything low. We'd never heard of bank line, we used nails and baling wire. We'd pick up Coke bottles and trade them at the store for nails. Between school, homework, short days and lack of nails, it might take us a week or two to accomplish what you did in a day. You have one other huge advantage, we weren't allowed to play with fire. Thanks for the memories.

I've been watching your videos for at least two years. One of the things I like the most about them is the way you don't focus on the gear. You show what to do and how to do it. You have always told us the where gear is available if we want it. I have always considered your approach to videos to be much more mature and sophisticated than most other utubers. (Bad jokes notwithstanding) Don't change too much now that others are catching on. Certainly grow and develop as a presenter, and as a teacher. But remember your roots. Be you, and do it your way. You can see that it pays off.

Don't recall many Moms in 29, but then again, I was maybe three. Do miss Joshua Tree NM, though. Thanks again for another outstanding build. : )

Highly recommend learning "Top Survival knots" it is a very important aspect and you have to learn hands on. Get a piece of rope to tie around your waist and learn by challenging yourself.
