Domestic violence situations are among the most complicated and difficult cases that prosecutors must handle. The history and relationship of the people involved can be quite complex. These types of cases are often he said / she said issues.
Prosecutors rely on 911 and law enforcement to provide all their discovery and evidence required for the case. They must determine how to charge the accused based on the laws of their jurisdiction, and the amount and validity of evidence that is provided to them, as well as what they can collect during the investigation. The means and methods for prosecutors to collect viable, useful evidence can enable swift due process,
and improve outcomes for victims.
The panelists will discuss the perspectives of:
● Prosecution
● Law enforcement
● PSAP/911
● Victims and victim advocacy
The law enforcement, PSAP/911 and victim advocates will provide insights on how they interact with prosecution and their roles before a trial, during a trial, and how they support victims.
The panelists will discuss their roles and their challenges in discovery and evidence collection for a domestic violence case. This education will provide advocates and survivors further understanding of why the criminal justice system needs to be transformed so discovery and evidence collection at the very origination of the crime can support the victims of domestic violence.
With this education, we can possibly achieve better outcomes for criminal justice and the advocacy world.

Even though this is a complete opposite of what I ever experienced where for example the policemen refused to write down the dialogues in my report, the perpetrator confirmed having beaten me up and strangled me till I was unconscious, yet the detective still laughed it off as 'me making a big deal' out of a justified reaction to my provocation - which was me having said "Stop treating me like dirt!" ... Even though ... It's still nice to hear what those institutions should've represented.

The ebodyguard app is quite useless unless you have valid phone numbers of ur abusers and even entering date of birth is quite difficult as well as impossible if you don't have that info either. We Victim survivors end up caught in Bermuda triangles of no protection and more problems w these false promises of some sense of false security. 6 years ive begged for extraction outta state. Had to survive 3 near death experiences including a coma to get housing help only to be sent in same community as abusers cousin. Fighting for my rights to safety from stalking and releasing my private info almost 5 years now w zero help from law enforcement judiciary amd any so called educated resource Center calling themselves helpful when they provide no legal assistance so we revolve in a larger rinse repeat of Bermuda triangles. No wonder 85% of us attempt or are coerced into suicide and 30% of us end up murdered. Not helpful folks. Please do better for us.

It's too bad the question wasn't answered regarding DV Victims finding Attys who understand they've been totally decimated & have zero fiscal resources so then in fact when law enforcement & DAs fail to recognize, fail to enforce, or aren't at all educated or seasoned; victims are abandoned and end up trying to defend themselves in a no win losing battle. Without advocates who "know" someone that will listen & engage the appropriate points of contact; victims remain oppressed & endangered. Stuck in a bureaucratic black hole. Perpetrators remain emboldened. Law Enforcement remains complacent, DAs remain stealth.
Law Simplified sits down with Senior Crown Prosecutor, John Dove.
