Building Exotic Hardwood Cutting Boards out of this large glue up. Paduk, Black Walnut, Wenge & Hard Maple are the woods I used for these 2 large boards. These boards are 20 inches long 11.5 inches wide & 1.25 inches thick. Sanded three times using 150 -250 & 350 to the final step before raising the grain, sanding again & finishing with Oil & Wax. Thanks for watching & Enjoy! If you would like to order boards or are interested - leave a comment down below.

Quick question for you - on the Harbor Freight clamps, the woodworker from the UK named Paul talks about adding some wood inside the clamp to help it maintain strength and straightness. Do you do that? Do you agree with that premise? Just curious here; it seems like it could work. Thank you.

That does sound like a good idea - I really only have them as an extra / backup. For light duty work they would be fine.....for these hardwoods they are not so great as they can easily twist under tension. They are cheap yes.....for a reason. If you are doing glue-ups with soft woods where you do not need a ton of holding power they work fine. Also the turning knob hits the table when you are doing a glue-up on a table, this is very annoying, where as the Bessey clamp sit high enough & allow you to turn the tightening knob without hitting your work surface. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What happened to the color of fthe Padauk from the garage to the kitchen? it looks way darker in the final shot.

The oils and wax darken the wood - have to protect it from moisture for a cutting board. Also, the lighting in those images could be improved.

did you raise the grain and sand down at all?
@JustinMoritz
@JustinMoritz 5 ай бұрын
yes - 3 stages of sanding (150 -250 & 350) with raising the grain during the final stage with 350.

You really should use a ripping blade. It's actually dangerous to rip maple with that blade.
@JustinMoritz
@JustinMoritz 5 ай бұрын
Well thanks - what blade do you recommend? This is a new blade designed for Ripping hardwoods, cross cuts and so on. Its a finish blade as well. I do get burns on some of my rips, although I am not sure if that is from the blade or binding from having removing the riving knife.

What blade did you use? I must’ve missed that part.

I did not mention the blades I was using in the video but they are both new in the Miter & Table saw. The table saw blade is a 8 1/4 60T Fine Finish Blade made by Diablo. On the packaging in mentions Rips, Crosscuts, Circular saws & Table saws. I think a blade specifically made for Ripping hardwoods would actually be a much better choice for what I am doing. What are you running in your saw for ripping hardwoods. @@Zippy1776

I’m running a cmt 24 tooth blade and so far am liking it. I would like to try the Freud glue line rip but at a 1/3 the price for the cmt that gives glue line rips I can’t justify the money to tinker around. Have three different cmt blades and haven’t had any issues as others in reviews. Run the 24 tooth rip in one table saw a 50 tooth in another table saw for cross cutting and a general purpose 45 tooth in my 12” miter saw. Be careful not to let the wood lift on you at the table saw. Scared me a little cause I know what will happen 😂. The grr ripper is a great push block that I refused to buy for a while but am glad I bought now. Take care. Keep after it. 👍
