This system is amazing just what I was looking for. If you dont mind me asking, where did you purchase the black hoses, T connectors, and grommets?

I got mine form a local gardening grow store. You can also find most everything on Amazon.

@whyamigreen Thank you for thr information. what size hose you advice, 1/2in, 1in? I have two 275lb rain collecting water totes I'll be adapting to this system.

Very interesting! Do you have a lot of problems with mosquitoes in summer? Also do you still have to hand water?

No mosquitos at all and I water every three weeks to raise the level in the center barrel.

I liked what you have done do you think buckets would work as well as grow bags?

Using buckets would just ad to the cost. The pools are connected by hose to the water supply. Do the same with he buckets and you wouldn't need the kiddie pools. Less money and less work.

How are you fertilizing? I’m concerned about top dressing when the water wicks up from the bottom.

You can put it in the water to soak up or on top of the soil for the rain to seep in. Either way works fine.

Do you have a drain hole in each of the blue pools for drainage or just in the last pool only?

I only put it in one otherwise some of the pools may drain before they all get filled. (in case they are not perfectly level.)

@@whyamigreen so I need to 7/8 inch drill bit, half inch grommets, what size t? And what size hose? I already have a rain barrel and the float

You can use any size hardware you want. I would go to a grow store to ask them what fits together. I did this system a few years ago and can't remember. I only have the info you are seeing in the video and on the page I sent you so I'd just be guessing. Good luck.

Great video how big are the pools that will hold five 5gallon bags?

Not sure. It's been a while but any size will work. You only need about 1 - 1 1/2 inches of water in them.

It's just a bit easier set up than Alaska buckets but they work about the same. Enjoy

I was going to ask the same question! Seems to me especially on your deck the Alaska Grow Bucket system would work better,cheaper leaving more room to move around…..? Are you not using your Alaska system at all, if not what will you do with all those buckets🤔

I only did the Alaska buckets for two years. I like to change things around a bit trying different systems. Alaska buckets are time consuming drilling all those holes. I like both systems though.

It doesn't matter. I did them from seed to harvest.

Is there any danger of root rot from the constant water contact?

I've never had a problem with root rot in the many years I've been doing it. As long as your water level is about an inch to an inch and a half and your soil mixture is correct then you should have no problem. The whole idea is that the soil is a wicking system will only pull in the amount of water it needs.

I do this too. I’ve noticed the plant will only pull up the water it needs. I use potting mix since it has the water wicking ability . Soil you need to add the wicking material ( peat moss and such ) if only granddad could see us now..
