I suspect all the Imperator Titans are unique looking from one another, just like Cathedrals (of reality) that they are "based?" on. I love how yours is coming along. You should crowd source some stats for it! Keep up the great work.

Yeah, and just coming off watching another channel talking about using lots of greebils/tiny detail bits from model kits to increase the sense of scale and detail, it only makes sense to finesse the details in ways that feel right for the project.

@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Definitely should make it playable - unless you're going to sell it, and even then probably still. Such a large project is a big investment of time anyway - and if you think you have the motivation to see it through, then every bit of playability you add increases the returns in enjoyment that you get out of the model upon completion. As a statue, the enjoyment is aesthetic - let's say, 2-3 minutes per person, per decision to look. As a playable table, the enjoyment ramps up to 30-120 minutes per person, per session, of deep contemplation of tactical areas, minute aesthetical choices, and translates to fully-formed memories of play and enjoyment.

The idea of 3d printing details is a good one because its gonna need a lot of detail. You can print panels with shapes, details and gribling and gule them on the titan to avoid having flat surfaces. If you print in pla and its thin enough, 0.5-1 mm it should be flexible enough to be wrapped around round surfaces like the leg or the knee joints.

Not only do you have the right to use artistic liberty on this project, you should feel obligated to do so. This is not a Warhound, it did not come off an assembly line, every Imperator should be a uniquely crafted work of art from the forge world that built it.
@danielm.595
@danielm.595 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, just the fact that it has a fecking humongous cathedral on its back should be a dead giveaway that the manufacturing of this beast is much more artisanal than the others. None of the smaller titans have any buildings on them. They're purely for fighting, which is why I think that the Imperium would normally only use the Imperator on battles that *NEED* to be won, to give the so needed morale boost to the soldiers.

We talked about giant builds like this on the Scratch Bashing discord a while back, and the main stumbling block for a lot of builds that try and portray the mega-engines of the 40k universe in 28mm scale is the lack of scale-appropriate detailing. Essentially they end up with too many enormous flat surfaces, which make no sense if you actually imagine them to scale. So I think your main challenge with this guy will be adding enough greeble to it that it actually reads as an enormous 28mm war machine rather than just an upscaled tiny model. Luckily between toy parts, 3D printing and possibly casting stuff you should be able to fill those out without TOO much trouble! It's quite the project, and it's awesome to follow along, so I wish you the best of luck in building this monstrosity!
@EricsHobbyWorkshop
@EricsHobbyWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
I agree to an extent. There will certainly need to be areas of exquisite detail that bring it to scale. The forge world titans and their nests of pipes and rivets and mechanical bits are the standard i will be aiming for. BUT… it is also important to have some surfaces that aren’t too visually busy to the let the areas of detail breathe. Thats where the artistic discretion comes in. Its important to be able to draw the eye to the areas of focus. If the whole model is too detailed it does more harm than good to the overall impression it leaves. I hope to find the right balance!
@JenxRodwell
@JenxRodwell 2 жыл бұрын
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop Oh don't get me wrong, I agree that having some spaces of relatively lower detail is important to help make the overall silhouette more legible. I was simply pointing out a very common pitfall I have noticed with really large builds. I think a good example of doing it right would be Studson's build of Howl's castle.

This reminds me of when my school friend built two titan feet and legs for our big 3rd edition games, we just imagined the rest of the titan, and blew massive chunks out of the armies and removed terrain etc every couple of turns to represent the titan doing huge damage. (This was before giant apocalypse templates etc, we just agreed between us what would be destroyed) sometimes it would blow up my scratch built (mdf-Chonky) baneblade, but then a turn or two later it would roll back on the table as a new one. It’s the best way to play a mega game, just blow stuff up Willy-nilly and replenish stuff constantly. Just make sure the characters are doing epic stuff somewhere.

I LOVE your work, Eric keep to the end of this project!! I built my own Imperator for 40K last year, used it a few times with fellow gamers in my Game Room (its permanent hangar, I guess), but it's an absolute pain to haul up and down stairs and in-out of cars, so be mindful of dimensions and component weights! I must brake down place it in every section of my small car for a single-trip transport, a time constraint by itself...

The idea of making it modular to use on a campaign or a tournament sounds too good to drop. That would be so awesome. 😃

Very cool start! You have shown both artistry and ingenuity in the design. Awesome idea to make it a modular arena for battles in the future. Looking forward for more in the future, it was well worth the wait.
