@@CPSdronewhy can’t you have one or two singular engines or motors and then open and close valves that exhaust at different angles?
@conorstewart221410 ай бұрын
@@dorjedriftwood2731 one issue is friction, adding long tubes for the exhaust with bends probably isn’t very efficient. Then there is another issue, the motors and propellers don’t just exhaust out the back, they also pull in the front, meaning when the motors are running you will always have a force coming from the intake. So fixed motors even with difference exhaust paths will always pull in the direction the motor is facing, regardless of where the exhaust comes out. This could be mostly eliminated by using two motors that intake in opposing directions but any difference in speed will still cause movement. Edit: it also creates a control problem, you don’t want the motors to be spinning is you aren’t exhausting it somewhere which means you need to mix the controls a lot more and if you want multiple exhausts at the same time then balancing them could be difficult as more water will take the easier path. It is all possible but probably more hassle than it is worth. The motors are cheap and having multiple creates redundancy.

You might want to consider spot-welding the cells in the battery instead of soldering. It's a little risky to heat them!
@ZpeedTube8 ай бұрын
That is true! I bought a "kWeld - complete kit" last year and was very pleased with it. But keep in mind you also need a power source or battery that can give enough amps. :)

I've seen a few KZfaqrs stating that 3D printed components can leak even with 100% infill. I haven't tried it, but logically, the issue can be resolved by printing at a higher temperatures which will increase layer adhesion

Nice! Put a bag of desiccant into the electronics module assembly (or fill it with nitrogen for high performance). Since you have two machined delrin endcaps with double o-ring seals you can probably use whole-copper wire or a custom circuitboard embedded in epoxy potting to make a good subsea penetrator, also face-seal o-rings combined with 2x piston seal o-rings help a lot. Also IMHO flat acrylic is better than a dome if you want to go deep.

@firebeardlongfellow529510 ай бұрын
Well yeah that thing will be slower simply from it not being tinkered with for drag at all. That iteration of the drone is extremely successful for what you wanted it to do. Which was being omnidirectional in a compact design to prove it can be done. Next step is refining it down shape wise so it can perform how you want it. Possibly make it so various panels cover the intakes for various rotors when not in use, and also positioning the rotors in spots that still allow for optimal use, but with the compromise of being more streamlined for movement as well. Or better yet install heartier more powerful motors as well if it's truly just trying to get it to go fast with the current design. Do not chalk it up to less then what it is which is an extremely awesome proof of concept for your hard work.
@myblueocean210 ай бұрын
Great work! Currently building something simmilar. You can make the dome yourself with an acrylic sheet. Clamp it in around the sides with a circular hole in the middle, slowly heat it in the oven and let it sag to the desired form. Alternatively you can use air suction on one side. It takes a few tries to get it right and even more to get it optically perfect. This is how we used to make the domes for our cameras in the past when there were no off the shelf housings. Good luck and happy diving!

Would using vegetable oil to replace air within the sub help? Maybe not for this one but perhaps the deep diving ones. Might be a terribly idea, but I just had a thought that maybe have something other than regular air might help with the internal pressures
@----.__8 ай бұрын
Filling enclosures with oil has been used for decades. We run our electronics in oil filled enclosures w/PBOF cables to help with heat dissipation and the pressures experienced at depths of 6000msw. Circulating the oil through the enclosure is easy, and you can save a lot of design time and material costs by using this method because the pressure differential is negligible compared to enclosures containing surface atmospheric pressures.

Hey, have you considered trying to fully enclose your electronics in epoxy instead of using a canister? I do ROV design and compete, and the ROV doesn’t use any canisters, so it can save space, its also less prone to being damaged by water. Unless there are moving parts inside the canister, I don’t think it will work out. We also put the thruster ESCs on the thrusters with a 3D printed enclosure. I’m not a professional engineer so i’m sorry if this suggestion sounds bad 😅
