In essence, the problem is the necessity of a link to a human operator. So, that's where an AI model could come in handy. Add a small AI model to the drone, so it can run without the fiber optic cable. Sure, the next stage is to fine tune the model to mine uranium 🙂.

You should bring a geiger counter down there too. Just checking ... :-) Also: 1: check the fiber cable before using it again. With all this damage, it would be a shame to lose the drone for something so trivial. :P 2: mount a 360 camera on the center of the craft. Hell, it is fiber-optic, you have the bandwidth to mount 2 of them in ventral / dorsal and forward / rear configuration. 3: Any possibility for a "return to home" function on the drone?

Fantastic content ! Just one suggestion. You should avoid making "go or no go" decisions impulsively. Instead, establish mission rules in advance that dictate whether to abort or proceed based on those predetermined criteria.

I see in comments a rear camera suggestion. Which does feel like a good suggestion. I went here to comments to look if anyone thought of a 360 camera, but I’m not sure if it’s really needed. Maybe the rear camera would be enough.

Maybe a pipe fixed in the middle of the shaft at the top would make it easier. Feed the optic through and keep tension so that it makes it harder for the cable to drift out of the middle?

Awesome Video. It got recommended on my youtube main page. So cool to see diy projects that really impress like this one. Glad you got the drone back as well! smart move with moving it in the tunnel, my thought was that you did it so you could recover it later on or with the other drone (so it would have sat in the tunnel instead of the bottom of the shaft).

The next iteration of your drone needs manipulators that will work under pressure, and vents to cover the props. I love this project, and appreciate how much work this must have been. What an incredible achievement.

With a strong need to add some sort of netting over top of the propellers

i think you need to get a third camera on the back not attached on the drone it self like a slefie stick so you can see your whole drone so when you get stuck you can see and it will be easyer to untagle

You can connect a current meter sensor to the power line of each motor. In this way, you can see the motor trying to draw high current. So it's a faulty engine. In fact, you can apply this structure to anything. If your camera draws abnormal current, it will indicate that it is malfunctioning.

For diving tests, you should definitely try larger places with less debris.... also to easily retrieve it if imploding. Would have been such a shame to loose it in that mine. 😦

Wonder if 3D printed resin would be tougher than filaments for the cylinder caps. Some resins are crazy durable + epoxy resins bonding with these like crazy.
@pesoen5 сағат бұрын
maybe adding sensors(not sure if that is possible) so you can "sense" the walls, allowing you to steer it without a video feed, and maybe add a wire to pull it back up instead of using a fiber optic cable. adding a mesh over the intake and outputs of the propellers should prevent them from sucking in strings, wires and your own cables in the future.

Witam panowie. Tu filmik porównujący zegarek z hydromodem i bez kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7WEa7uGltnXY3k.htmlsi=NLRhrZSYdwoNB6A3. Pozdrawiam Paweł

So I know someone else already said it - but at the sacrifice of propelllant speed, a cover over the propellers would be a great way to keep them protected. Couple this with a way to keep the line taught would severely reduce issues with the line becoming too 'slack' as it were. A rear facing camera - although choking bandwidth - would allow for a bit more... view. I'm also not 100% sure on the whole design when it comes to going down, considering the shape is more like a rectangle over a box. Would it not be easier to design a shape akin to a flat square with a singular camera on all sides coupled with a range finder - possibly a laser?

Maybe add some mesh guards around the motors? The loss of power could be worth it if you can avoid getting stuff stuck inside them.
