Jackson Heights in Queens is one of the best places to try Filipino Food near New York so I went to find some new dishes to taste for the first time. Many people have recommended Tocino (Filipino cured pork) so I was happy when I found it. I also try Bulanglang (vegetables with salted anchovy Sauce), the bagoong balayan or bagoong monamon (salted anchovy sauce) in the dish was one of the strongest and most unique tastes I have experienced in Philippine cooking. I have read this dish is similar to Dinengdeng and Laswa which I also hope to try. Next, I picked up some Filipino Snacks (Ding Dong Review!) and headed to another Filipino Restaurant in Jackson Heights to try the popular Filipino Street Food Siomai and finally to a Filipino Grocery Store to look for Tayomansi (Filipino soy sauce and calamansi) and Filipino dried fishes. So if you're looking for a video of a foreigner reacting to Filipino bagoong balayan, trying not to embarrass himself by putting the wrong condiments on Filipino Food and exploring Filipino groceries, you are in the right place. I hope more people go to eat the food of the Philippines, it is worth trying and you will fall in love with Filipino cooking!
Episode Intel:
Baby's Grill & Restaurant
68-28 Roosevelt Ave, Woodside, NY 11377
Reggie Ate: Bulanglang (vegetables with balayan aka salted anchovy Sauce), Tocino (Filipino sweet cured pork), Del Monte Pineapple Drink, Ding Dong (Filipino snack).

6816 Roosevelt Ave, Queens, NY 11377
Reggie Ate: Pork Siomai (Filipino Steamed Street Food Dumpling)
Food Express Supermarket

@@unculturedtravel First stop in LUZON is - Metro Manila. You can actually explore lots of cities (Makati, BGC, etc...) within it. - Tagaytay with its stunning location near Taal Volcano - Baguio, the summer capital of the Ph because of its cooler climate - Pampanga, culinary capital of the Ph - Bicol with the most perfectly coned volcano, Mayon - the Ilocos Region for a Spanish-country feel with lots of colonial Spanish structures and nice beaches - Batanes Islands, far north, is the New Zealand of the Ph with its rolling hills & pasturelands Next stop in VISAYAS - Palawan - Boracay - Cebu - Bohol - etc MINDANAO - Davao City - etc There are thousands of beautiful islands with beautful people in the Ph but the above-mentioned are the well-known ones. You can always try them all and see what fits you. There are also so many vloggers out here since the Ph opened its doors. Each with their own style of vlogging. But it's also nice that you're trying to acclimate with the Filipino culture in other countries. That way you'll get to know more of the culture and the language that can make it easier for you to transition in our country. And also try to always immerse yourself with the locals. They will appreciate you more.

11:50 bro, they already got Quek-Quek in the US?! You should give that a go! It's basically quails egg in orange batter thats deep fried. It comes sweet sour sauce served in a plastic cup. The "Bisaya version" of it is pretty much the same BUT we (I'm from Cebu) add small diced red onions and sliced cucumbers to compliment the taste.

@rolanalberto3064
@rolanalberto3064 2 жыл бұрын
@@unculturedtravel the unique orange color comes from "Annatto powder" (a type of spice here in the Philippines) thats mixed with the batter, giving that particular color. Although an alternative would be food coloring, hopefully the ones in the US are made with Annatto powder. I look forward to you trying it out 👍

So sorry ate could've treated or shown with more respect and appreciation. But the main mission was the new filipino food experience. You know more dishes now than the average fililino. We honestly didn't know 'bulanglang' dish name, but might have seen it before just not familiar with the name. Thank you again!😎✌🇵🇭🇺🇸
