Jackson Heights in Queens is one of the best places to try Filipino Food near New York so I went to find some new dishes to taste for the first time. Many people have recommended Tocino (Filipino cured pork) so I was happy when I found it. I also try Bulanglang (vegetables with salted anchovy Sauce), the bagoong balayan or bagoong monamon (salted anchovy sauce) in the dish was one of the strongest and most unique tastes I have experienced in Philippine cooking. I have read this dish is similar to Dinengdeng and Laswa which I also hope to try. Next, I picked up some Filipino Snacks (Ding Dong Review!) and headed to another Filipino Restaurant in Jackson Heights to try the popular Filipino Street Food Siomai and finally to a Filipino Grocery Store to look for Tayomansi (Filipino soy sauce and calamansi) and Filipino dried fishes. So if you're looking for a video of a foreigner reacting to Filipino bagoong balayan, trying not to embarrass himself by putting the wrong condiments on Filipino Food and exploring Filipino groceries, you are in the right place. I hope more people go to eat the food of the Philippines, it is worth trying and you will fall in love with Filipino cooking!
