your videos gave us the confidence to buy a salvage car for only 40% of the retail price. My son and I are doing the work. I used the 2 part clear epoxy to fix a cracked headlight then followed your video for restoring headlights- $10 fix for a part costing $600 new. Tomorrow we start on the cracked front bumper cover. We would never think about doing this kind of work before your videos. PS- the repair estimate for the damage was more than $3000- we think we can fix everything for less than $100.

so i has started to repair 2 vauxhall vxr bumpers that i bought for 100€ each from the uk. these one's cost new nearly 700€ each... without the paint job it is done for 25€ with following this video's :D

@@DHarris240sx - Becoz it's not really a DIY job. PLASTIC WELD by a Pro. is Quite Expensive - more than the Total Cost of the Repair by the M4M Ladz - if U use ColorMatch rattle cans. Most DIY folks Don't have a Compressor lying round ! 🤔 Thinks: an old vacuum cleaner and some Duct tape and a few pipes with gradually smaller diameters.....then U could....... 😉

Those metal clips are a great idea, no more drilling holes and zip tying!!!
@crpth1
@crpth1 3 жыл бұрын
Jesus! Zip ties are the worst method ever. Unless the intention is to make the repaired part look like Boris Karloff's, Frankenstein! LOL 😂 Use basic soldering iron, anything from 30W to 100W, with a flat tip, will do just fine and it's dirty cheap. If you want to go fancy there's flat and broad plastic solder tips. Which make it even easier! Using the video case as an example, no welding "material" is needed. Just the soldering iron and 5 minutes of your time. To make life easier, some aluminum tape on the front will keep it nice and tight while soldering on the back. If done carefully most probably the front would be good enough to be left "as it is" in most cheap car repairs, almost unnoticeable after soldering. Zip ties could be used as solder material or even to bridge larger gaps also soldered, but that's it. ;-)

2 cents on the way! ;-) When you pulled out the soldering iron I was convinced you were going to do what's reasonable and logical... Solder the broken edge back into shape! Damn I was surprised you didn't! It's so much easier and way more efficient. After being solidly conformed to it's shape then you can add whatever reinforcing layers and methods. But that would be done over a repaired surface. BTW for a crack that size it would take about 5 minutes, top! ;-) One more tip. For a case like this. Use aluminum tape, on the front side, to hold it together while you repair it from the back side. Cheers

Great video you in effect did a crude method of plastic welding without a plastic welding kit. Anyway my major thing is how you get the same color code match of your vehicle in aerosol/spray can form. I imagine you have to have the spray gun equipment / compressor to do this. As stores probably match paint only in can form... Be nice to know it can be bought your exact color code in spray can form for small work such as this fix.. Obviously for completely painting a car you want to uses your spray equipment with it in can form to be easier. (though doable either way i was more curious on getting match paint spray cans.)

Epoxy does not bond chemically to polypropylene bumper. It only creates a mechanical bond, and the bumper at one point in time may crack again due to constant impact, or if the metal staples you used dislodge somehow. In order to form chemical bond you need to use polyurethane resin. This is better than epoxy but you have to find the kind that stays flexible. Or better yet use plastic welder.
