Thank you for the show ladies. Dealing with children in times like these one of the challenging things parents get. Trust me, no one wants their child to come out the bad one in community. By the time this mother got to this stage, lots must have happened. I have ever heard someone say, "Naye nga omuzadde, omwana akulema atya!??? Omwaana obwaana!? Ogamba otya nti omwana annemye!??? Olinga agamba Katonda nti ekirabo kyewampa sikisobola.... " The talk was lengthy. But in the end, he said, "Parents, kneel down and pray to God to teach you His kind of parenting."

I agree with Rosette. Balance. Don't hold a grudge with your child. Move on after disciplining them for something. Don't be that African mom piling on words unnecessarily for hours or days.

My son is 11 and I do co-parenting. My partner is an equally active parent and every time they spend time together, our son comes back a better person. my style of parenting is having conversations and teaching, the father's style is different. There are days when I would feel helpless in matters of disciplining but a phone call to the dad works wonders

I disagree with Manuella. It is not intimidation, men are wired differently and this could be a changing point for him. He could grow to love that man and even look at him as a role model. Sometimes children need to see someone other than the people in their homes.

Exactly….the average boy/man responds more to authority yet we women parent emotionally(which is natural coz we are nurturers). You need that male figure to balance things out, ALWAYS

I think Manuela has a point though while we can generalize and say that men respond best to authority not every man or boy child is built like that. For those men or boys that respond best to authority this might be a turning point for them however for those men/boys who might be more sensitive it could come off as intimidation and once he internalizes those negative emotions, he starts to believe that the only way I can be heard or understood is through shouting. Most Ugandan men are built in environments of toxic masculinity that they have never taken time to even evaluate their emotions or how they are feeling. Think about this, when you see someone who is always shouting, the first question people ask but Yiyi how was this person raised. It’s alluding to the idea that at some point during this person’s childhood, he or she internalized shouting as a way to express negative emotions. My takeaway from this video was that every child be it boy or girl has a different temperament and as a parent you have to adjust to that child because without that understanding you might start or enhance bad behavior instead of fixing it.

@@manuelap.mulondo i agree men have been broken in some ways. But in this case, we are seeing this young boy develop a toxic pattern, where gentle parenting has failed. A boy that thinks its OK to name call the mother and disregarding his mom's authority. He should not be categorized in the same group as young boys that are more grounded and obedient. This hence calls for a different approach in disciplining, its a trial and error. If he doesn't respond to this veteran, then the mom has to keep adjusting methods. The cost of inaction on this boy's behavior is rather grater in the future than now.

I know of a man who is very responsible now but in his teenage years despite having grown up in a stable family with both parents present went wayward to the point of taking drugs and refusing to go to school. The parents took him to kyankwanzi in the military base for like 3months. He returned a different child. Calling the dad Sir, kneeling for the mum etc to the point that his own where even scared of him. I think depending on the child and how desperate you're for change in your child,you can take these extremes. He is now a successful lawyer in this country. Thank you for this show. Very informative

Just to add on the many voices that have already contributed to this topic. The best time to give instruction and teach a child the fundamental values of life is when they are still very little ie between the ages of 1yrs and 3yrs.. Beyond 3yrs old. The child's conscience is starting to fully function but it functions off the moral deposits that you have been depositing in their moral warehouse when they are still little.. So that now you give the 'why' to the instructions you are giving.. The problem we face especially us the African parent we fail to instruct and teach and train the kids when they are little, because we be thinking that they are still little. Yet at that early age.. Their brains are at Rocket Speed in terms of capturing their sorroundings and learning.

Thanks for another show ladies. I want to agree with Manuela that something is broken in African societies. Men need to be more involved in family for a better society. In societies that do well, men are held to a very high standard. They are expected to anchor the family and contribute to society. Today we have husbands that are emotionally absent in the family. Fathers who don't remember what class their children are in. How can they discipline their children without knowing the basics. Let's do better. Men need to understand that they are a big part of the solution. Like Angie said you fix family, you fix society.

Pumla is very right about the definition of gental parenting and personally I've learnt it with experience, im not a parent yet but for the past two years I've been a nanny to a one beautiful girl and its been gentle parenting all the way, however its too tiring at times because it involves alot of talking you have to explain the same thing over and over again for even months and it also involves " do as i do" not "do as i say" as many of us were raised, because its exactly what you do that the child will gi after. This is former serving veteran, who is helping parents with kids who are off the straight road. In most cases, he comes in like that but he also talks to them in a more calming way. He also listens to their side and them gives them ways to communicate rather than disobey their parents.

The problem with social media is that the clips are too short and we don't get to understand the full picture of what's happening. However, if we're assuming the mom is single, then she did well by calling that veteran. Some boys need that. Tough love. Many boys raised by single mother claim that joining the military helped fill the void of absent dad (read it from US platform).

My gentle parenting is that of Pumla. My child was making up little lies. The school reported. The caretaker reported. And when I came to UG we talked about the result of small lies that become big lies and then theft. After our discussions. A few days passed. He was then arrested by the police arraigned and partially booked. I paid all the participants. He spent a few hour in the jail having conversations with prisoners. He cried and cried. But mommy was no where. Well my son will not lie. If you ask if he did something. He tells as it is. His now 15. honest as they come. Even when he messes up. He will tell you he messed up

@@pumlanabachwa8668 I learned this from an old man. When i was 16. my daddy took us shooting with an old doctor friend of his who lived down south in Georgia. He told a story of his son getting a DUI and going to Jail for one night. The next 24hr after jail he spent with his father at the emergency room. What he saw there… let’s say was the greatest lesson any jail cell could give him. Think about general hospital at 100% lol. Children learn with emotion actions and discussions.

After getting data🤣 @ Manuela mentioned something that most parents overlook, involving God as the wisdom through His word. I had to make my children read the book of Psalms and Proverbs aloud as our devotion because words like obedience, truth or lies, honor, and so on jump out of the Bible. The word of God is living and active and it divides flesh and spirit, where all other methods employed fail. Also, for single parents, this is also an avenue of giving their children a solid identity about having a Father who is perfect and never fails. Even for single dads, if you use the word, there is a sensitivity a child will feel from God's word, like love, care and so on that can fill the gap of a mum. I loved the episode.

I am not a parent but from observation and conversations with older people I have learnt that you can only do it well if the two types of parenting are combined together. But most importantly start when they are young. Not older

My mum practiced gentle parenting ,all my childhood I was beaten twice ,if I can remember. We talked through things . Just two canes made us quack .

First of all, the outfits are dope. Raising children is one of the hardest tasks I've encountered as a single mum. Men always abandon children if the separation was initiated by the mother. Oba to get back to her? I don't know. Shout outs to Pumla for her input on co-parenting, which I've tried to do in vain.

Dear Bump Love, Thank you Ladies, i know we have talked about blended families but i kindly request you to enlighten us more about raising children who are not biological i.e, step children and children from our relatives As they often visit their homes and communicate to their own, with behaviour changes and connection with our biological children. Hello ladies, kids are very funny. My child i think i mostly use authoritarian though she still ignores my instruction. But when she is with other kids she corrects and even disciplines them sometimes meaning she listens and understands but just refuses to do it. Meanwhile we are talking about a 2.9yr old.
