Ah man, The Statler Brothers. That brings back some memories. Our family loved them growing up and I don't think I've listened to them since I was a kid. Going to have to spend some time getting reacquainted. Lived in the KC area and Olathe just down the road from JoCo Exec for a few years, so enjoyed the arrival quite a bit.

Be safe!!! Lost a PC-12 last week here in NC. Dan Gryder did a really good episode on it at Probable Cause. Give it a look if you get a chance, interesting theory for sure. Be safe and thanks for taking us along :-)

That’s a really sad one. 😞 I’ll be very interested in the NTSBs findings on that one.

Great video as always - appreciate the flight data any the end, That must have been some detour towards Chicago and serious headwind for a 2.5 hr hop that is 441nm direct!
@GrantBaker
@GrantBaker 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike! It was about 45kts headwind component, the detour wasn’t too bad. I had to leave the inertial separator open quite a bit for icing so that also slowed me down.

Thanks Lance! It was supposed to be about 10 days, but Covid and a part needing sent out for repair pushed it to a full month. I came back home.

Lovely video again Grant! Thanks for sharing. Out of curiousity: why did you alter the altimeter in the standby instrument from 3010 to 3007 when the AWOS stated 3009 before departure?
@GrantBaker
@GrantBaker 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I actually changed both the standby and the PFD. Clearance gave me the altimeter setting that they were using in the area, which was 30.07. That way I’m on the same setting as other local IFR traffic when I enter controlled airspace.

@GrantBaker
@GrantBaker 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Justin! I really enjoyed flying the 421C. It’s a great flying machine and, assuming you won’t be in one of the few without trailing link gear, the landings can be almost PC-12 smooth! Let me know how it fairs on the maintenance side.

An excellent job there mate, under the circumstances. That approach looked bloody challenging. The wind was terrible and to get it down quick after turning onto short final was great stuff. But, clearly having watched your videos for a while now, and without sounding patronising, you're clearly a very good pilot. Keep it up 👍

Gary, this airplane has a stick shaker/pusher system to help prevent aerodynamic stalls. It’s required to be tested each flight.

Curious what a typical annual costs for a PC-12. My friend is seeing 16-18k on a cirrus Sr-22 , my LSA 3k
@GrantBaker
@GrantBaker Жыл бұрын
From what I’ve heard, 30-40k is typical except when other certain inspections come due. This page has a breakdown of operating costs for a couple PC12s. pilatusowners.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/How-Much-Does-it-Cost-to-Operate-a-PC-12-July-2020.pdf

Correct, the type of AWOS at GSH only “sees” up to 12,000 so it really means “clear below 12,000.”
