Metal Gear Solid for the original PlayStation was a massive hit in Spain. Not only the game had tons of dialogue, but was perfectly voiced in Castilian Spanish. Very few games would receive that treatment.

As someone from Spain and having played UnEpic and the demo of this game, I can confirm that it's one of those cases where the humor isn't going to translate completely from one language to another. For example, the point about F-bombs in the dialogue, the use of profanity in regular conversations and media is way more casual between spanish speakers than for english ones.

About the spanish dub for MGS. It was mindblowing listening to videogames speak your own language, not even my accent (im from south america not spain) I think that is why MGS got so imprinted in my memory, alongside Soul Reaver's dub, this was something else, our language works with the "poetic" writing that both these games have. I mean, it was the FIRST time in my life that I heard a character say MIERDA in a videogame. Eh? MEA PARECIDO OIR ALGO....

I never played a metal gear solid game and I absolutely loved Unmetal. Also the bomb defusal even with the instruction from the game was obtuse. Please don't tell me you actually did the night vision maze without the instructions, I would imagine that to be devastating. I would agree the last few chapters loss focus on the comedy and focuses more on straight gameplay and standard cutscenes with few jokes sprinkled in, but at least ended it on a high note with it's epilogue scenes. It's rare for games to be so well written and funny when it's there and not be cringe or too referential. This allowed people like me to enjoy it. I guess the getting spotted and it's basically over didn't bother me as much as I treated it like a one hit kill style game, but the stealth depth is lacking in the after getting spotted portions for sure.

I ended up skipping several cutscenes in the final parts of the game due to joke fatigue. For humor in games, I would recommend West of Loathing. It is obviously not a stealth action game but well worth your time.

Im from the north of spain, and i was las 10 when mgs came out with all the bells and whistles, it was one nice try of taking videogames seriously, infamous quotes like the “pero que coño” can be heard from time to time.

I've only played mgs 5 and didn't even finish it. I went complitelly blind and had such a blast playing this game. I punched a window, someone told me to stop. I didn't. He beat me up for it. I punched some boxes and they asked me why the f I punch boxes. I sniffed the chloroform just to see if something funny's gonna happen and it DOES! And the cheese one... The bosses are creative (especially the last one), the narration is very good (no spoilers but it kinda splits and that was such a wtf moment) and of course the jokes are awesome. The only negative thing I can say is that after 3/5 of the game it became a bit boring for some time but then everything returned to normal. I've played it for around 25 hours and can recommend it to anyone. The gameplay was intuitive enough for someone who know nothing about MG 1 or 2. (sorry for bad english if there's any)

Yes!!! This is such a George game, I'm glad he covered it. A shame the gameplay could be better. This has me wondering what an MGS2-like parody game would be like? I loved the gameplay in that one.

i do remember Unepic being so unfunny that i gave up playing altogether at the time. but in this one at least seeing now, that idea of saving people you shoot sounds really cool though!

The nuclear sub boss was painful, the rng and trying to navigate during the last part of that fight when the floor breaks away got me killed so many times.

Unmetal feels like if Vash from Trigun and s Solid Snake had a baby.

But you're not supposed to 'trial and error' the wire cutting puzzle, there's a document in that very level that tells you how to defuse it.

When you mentioned the laughing and crying mask juggling my brain heard Wes Johnson as Sheogorath yelling "boring!". Though I suppose that wild suited demi-god might be the other side of extremes.

Having played UnMetal for three hours, on easy, I will say that I have enjoyed myself a bit, and chuckled, and laughed, a bit, but I do remember Merry Gear Solid, and especially the second one, to having me laugh a lot more. It's much more referential to Metal Gear Solid, than UnMetal, though.

I played 10 minutes of the UnEpic demo a very long time ago (UnFortunately found it to be quite UnFunny and UnInteresting), and seeing the video thumbnail triggered a flashback lol Didn't know this game existed, very cool!

Requiring the player goes back and helps shot enemies is a brilliant idea. Not only is it a unique gameplay twist that complicates using lethal weapons, it sells the player character's compassion through gameplay alone. I want to make a stealth game just to steal that idea

The only game from this dev I've played so far is Mini Ghost (last week, after which I wishlisted his other games) and that was mechanics first, story barely there, so no clue of how well or not he can write comedy. That said I'd be curious to see if the Spanish version is better than the English translation, that would require me to play the game twice tho and I haven't even bought it yet.

to me the best part that feels like a metal gear game was the omega building with all thos cameras , you have to put everyone to sleep while replacing them so the camera would see mike standing guard there. Sadly my favorite boss was the submarine: -small room to run away -limited ammo -hard to hit with the rocket launcher. -the ground starts to fall after some time. 10/10 & god

I'm gonna complain about the final negatives of this game, because not being a Metal Gear fan (having never even played the original 2 games) i still enjoyed this game purely on the merits of its writing and gameplay, namely figuring out how to take down enemies stealthily to earn stars, Which is the intended way to play the game, i think. And if you intend to do that - you will never alert anyone, or reload if you did. Thankfully game is more than generous with the amount of quicksaves it gives (at least if you explore around) - i think i ended up with 4 or 5 of them by the final level.
