@@TCBeavers: You're probably a great farmer, so these suggestions are meant constructively: 1. No vertical) videoing - it's like looking through a keyhole, esp. when it's sideways. 2. S-l-o-w camera movements. 3. No pointing at the ground while you walk, or edit that out later. 4. Best views are from a distance to get more into the frame. That's about it. The subject was interesting, but this was hard to watch. All the best!

Damn I remember them days! We had a 2wd 9500! Then upgraded to a 9570, then s660 it caught on fire got another 660 ran that for 3 years and now we got the 670 this year right before corn harvest! It's a sweet ass machine more than double the efficiency from the 9500 had to upgrade to Kenworths too the old 10 wheelers wouldn't keep up anymore when we switch to s series. You can cover some ground with a 30' MacDon! we're a seed farm so it helps to get it out of the field faster. This year we stuck the 660 during wheat but we pulled it out with a 8285R with no problem. We buried the 9570 so bad we had a cat Challenger and a 200hp new Holland hooked to it and STILL had to use a mini excavator to dig out the tires!

One trick we learned when the combine is stuck like that with one side down. Instead of pulling from behind or the front hook on to the rear axle and pull at almost 90 degrees sideways. The combine will spin on the stuck wheel and with the momentum pivot out of the hole. It worked for us. I pulled our Massey Ferguson 550 combine out with a Ford 5000. Combined are a pain to pull out because there’s not many places to pull from.
@TCBeavers
@TCBeavers 5 жыл бұрын
I didn't record it bc I was busy but we actually did try that but pulling the one way would have dug the header into the dirt and the other way was up the steeper hill which was also a sloppy mess. and you are absolutely right combines are a pain lol luckily we did have a tow hook to pull with but we also tried pulling the header and im hoping we didn't damage it lol
@wattaboutthis7984

Your on the right track. We've had hangs worse then that but pulling from a steep angle you pull one tire out and twist the other one out. We try and pull opposite of the side hung the deepest. Don't be afraid of running over a few beans if you have to. If you need to drop the head off just slide it out from the side after you get the combine out. One of the best things to pull out a combine is another combine.
@TCBeavers
@TCBeavers 5 жыл бұрын
What About This yea we had thought of that but the tow guy was pretty stubborn and wasn’t willing to work with us and wasn’t willing to go to the other side of the field and also the steer wheels also can pull and got buried as well and wasn’t budging side to side till we got it up a little and unfortunately we only have the one combine, we’re still a tiny operation about 700 acres. One day about 5 years ago my grandfather got bored just owning a drywall company and bought a bunch of new farm equipment and rented some more land on top of what he already owned and we’ve been learning by doing since

You are just keeping digging a hole with the combine wheel spinning that fast--slow it down to as slow as it will go & still be turning ----give it a chance to try to climb out so it will give the combine more ground clearance !!!!1

Roger Ramjet The ground was too soft for that, the tire was in the water course, it was saturated. Too much weight to climb on top in that spot, it came out when the wrecker pulled it around that corner and out of the water course.

I used to work on a potato farm. Stuck was an everyday occurrence. Most of the time we could pull a truck or tractor out with another tractor. Even more fun is to pull the potato harvester and the truck that runs next to the harvester with tractors. So when they retired they had a John Deere 4 wheel drive that the neighbors bought at the auction , just so they would have something tp pull their 4 wheel drive tractor out of a muddy mess. Nothing like dried mud and diesel fuel on your hands!

To Reduce the likelyhood of getting bogged on tractors, trucks, cars, one can use chains on drive wheels. Forrestry shidders use special chains on drive wheels most of the time. Letting down the tyre pressure also helps in soft mud and sand provided the wheels are not water filled. Most farm tractors use water and alcohol mix inwheeled vehicle to increase weight, increase load bearing capacity and stability on hill country as it lowers the centre of gravity. They might have tried pulling that combine sideways from one of the axles, the steering wheels often build up mud in front of them and it make it harder to pull them out backwards.

Maurice Upton I was raised in Tennessee, we play in the mud all the time so we know how to get smaller things in and out of mud but I haven’t heard of using chains or water in tires yet, as for where we pulled from the tow truck didn’t allow us to choose and did what he was going to do and nothing more, as well my grandfather does farming as more of a hobby than anything and was stuck before he ever realized it bc he was just passing the time lol we wind up in situations all the time bc of it

@@TCBeaversHere in NZ, most 2 & 4 wheel drive farm tractors use water in their tires to give them extra weight and it also lowers the centre of gravity making vehicles stable on hill country. Also increases traction. I would recommend using alcohol in with the water, to stop water freezing @ temperatures Below Zero. Chains, snow chains on trucks, tractors and off road 4x4 off vehicles give better traction than mud grip tyres, because they have the added advantage of being self cleaning. I haven't heard of water being used in 4x4 tyres used on tarseal highways because it would be dangerous and increase the wear on your tires. There are plenty of KZfaq videos of guys with 4x4s and trucks using chains for off road.

If you get stuck....get another tractor out there...dont keep burying yourself deeper....saves so much time and headache. Way easier to get out if just stuck not buried. I have seen alot of combines get totalled because they were not pulled out correctly. Even seen one have the entire final drive ripped off with everything left buried in the hole. Ouch!!

I remember back in the seventies, price of timber was in the toilet and there was work in the south so I went for it down to McGee Arkansas and I got a job in the lumber mill in Selma so I thought I was scotched but being a high gear northern boy I liked to killed the guys working the green chain and they let me go. My felling hurt I started walking home with my thumb out as I didn't have gas money or food or anything but a woodshed to live in. I see this guy in the field working on his machine and I really didn't even know what is was. Turns out if I just paid attention that I could see I was standing in a cotton field. Well he was working so I knelt down and seen what he was doing and copied him and I was faster than him cleaning the spindles that pulled the cotton off the plant. He was impressed with my work and let me keep on helping as it was hot outside. He offered me a coke as we were cleaning and I murmured I was looking for work, I was new to the area too. He said he picked that from the way I talked from his talk. So machine is clean and he asked me; Have you ever run one and I told him the truth that I didn't even know what it was till we worked on it so he showed me the controls. In about ten minutes flat, I impressed him with the way I ran it so he stopped me and said I will start you now if you want and I didn't ask no more, I was happy to have a job and a coke in my belly. I worked till dark and then he drove me and another man who tromped it down in the bin. Long story short he told me he would pick me up at daylight the next morning... it was overcast and I thought okay a break in this heat. He told me if I seen rain to get the hell out of the field. So needing a job bad, I was praying we would work. It was just overcast but no rain so we worked till about two in the afternoon and he was watching the sky hard. He reminded me if it rained and I told him ya. so off to work with this sandwich he promised: One slice of bread and only half of it had a smear of peanut butter and folded over with a eight ounce coke. I made it work and worked my heart out for him and then I saw a damn rain drop hit the glass! I'm thinking I need a job and only one rain drop, how bad can that be?? So I kept the machine going, this two row cotton picker... so a few minutes went by and I saw maybe three or four more on the glass but it looked good to me and I kept going. I just glanced in the mirror and looked behind me and that didn't look good as where I had been was mud in the rows but we had the cotton and not knowing about rain and dust in arkansas, I knew I was in trouble and picked the head up and turned out of the field to the side back to the cotton bail wagon where the other guy was an seen he was gone and so I stopped and got out and looked things over. I had tore them plants right out of the ground and the field had those ruts in it. DAmn it Jim to myself, this is what he is talking about and then he caught up to me about half drunk as he was drinking those miller beers and every round in the field I seen him with a fresh one... he was screaming at me your fired you dumb f*****! Ah shit! Then he told me that I only had a third of a day before with my cleaning time comes out and he don't pay for that and then we had only worked four hours that day and I knew I had been in that machine for six and a half. He tells me again he don't pay for cleaning but just picking and I was docked every day two hours clean up in the morning and at night so we had to work twelve to get eight.... I'm scratching my head and said so whats it come to and he says I pay good, I pay ten dollars a day for a full day and since I had only worked by his figures two hours the first day and then I only had a half day so far so he would owe me seven dollars but with the damage to the field he didn't figure he owed me s***.! Hmm... He had a six pack of beer left in his cooler out of a thirty pack. So I picked up the box of beer and give one to the black man tromping and he was nervous about taking the beer. I told him not to worry, I paid for it the way I figure and the dummy (good size) takes a swing at me. I caught his hand mid swing... handed the black man the beer to hold (told him to hold it and basically just dropped it and he did catch it, but my left hand had connected to that big boys chin and I heard the bone in his jaw break, ker snap. I took the box back from the black man and turn out of the field. Next thing I know that black man had caught up to me and was walking beside me laughing saying hes gonna be sleepin a willlel. I laughed too and we walked on to home which wasn't far for him but I had another eight to nine yet to go. I was just outside of twn when a guy was driving along slow beside me. he says headed to town? ya! jump in the back! ok and in I went. He said ain't you working for so an so and I told him he retired me. Then he wanted the whole story so riding along I told him through the window. Then it near took my head off.. he says.. I told my brother he was a cheap pri** and he just laughed. For a while I thought I would take up for his brother but that was the last of it. There is more but you have a book now

As those believe the grain has to spoil in the field when those would be watching the forecast when several days of rains would make fields that waterlogged when the field does dry enough to get in when it would appear to be dry on the surface when further down there would be a soft spot when crop insurance may cover the losses from trying to recover some but not enough of the grain as farmers still would be taking a risk when they got their combine mired when they had buried everything they had to try and recover the combine.

Aaron Thomson well it’s the only one we’ve ever owned bc we’ve only been doing this a few years but after having to rebuild so much of it over the years it runs like new!😂 it’s been pretty good to us since rebuilding the thrasher and grain elevator, the only issue we have is the header is 5 ft longer than what it’s supposed to have but so far that hasn’t really been an issue and last year and the year before it really has been great 👍🏻

Zollar Lee it’s probably hard to see it in the video but it had rained so much that year that it made the dirt soft enough for the combine to slide down the embankment and do to it being rear wheel Steer when he tried to turn out of it it just sent him down it faster

I nearly cried when you started plowing with the header and then again when you used the poor hydrostat in the combine to pull the truck, good lord get the tractor or dozer. Hydrostats are NOT made to pull loads, the tend to literally explode. And btw look into getting a wich for the back of the dozer, idk if you've seen how professional dozers pull out combines but the essentially bury the dozer and use the ground as an anchor to wich the combine out, works like a charm everytime
@TCBeavers
@TCBeavers 5 жыл бұрын
Andy Marshall the header was at full extension and we had no way to get it off, the ground was too soft to get the truck close enough to pull the header up and all the pins were buried, but the chain was connected to the tow hook underneath that’s welded to the frame
