For those wondering....first priority is a covering jet on to the side of the house...there is a window on that side which could break. While this is happening a main jet is being attached to fight the fire from the front and a second hose reel is also used from the side. By now a hydrant would have been connected by a third crew to main water pressure and fight the rest of the fire with a second main jet....From a large fire in an outbuilding to extinguished in less than thirty minutes....a job well done !!

Compare this to a usa fire department. The whole house, and much of next door would have been lost.

@Gabriel Godina it’s true. US housing is mostly wooden construction which means faster fire spread.
@greyman686
@greyman686 3 жыл бұрын
Well if you put this exact house with this same fire in the USA, the outcome would likely be similar to what you see here. Unfortunately with our building construction, that same fire could definitely have gotten into the house. If you have a good enough department, the adjoining house could definitely be saved though.

Not to take anything away from anybody, but this was an outside fire. Correct? If the fire was inside the building in possession of the first floor and extending up the interior stair, and it's 3:00 AM with occupants overcome with smoke in their bedrooms above and the guys successfully rescued them....then this fire it would be worth a discussion.

No kidding but those high pressure hose reels are just as effective if not more effective in most situations compared to the low pressure delivery hose. Volume of water isn't everything, it's how it's directed onto the fire. Dumping tonnes and tonnes onto a fire is just going to create super heated steam. 45mm and 70mm delivery hose is fantastic if you're dealing with a large external blaze. but the 25mm hose reel is way better for dealing with small to medium sized fires, especially this close to a house where you have to be mindful of water damage. The increased pressure (30 Bar opposed to 5 bar) is also much more effective at reaching the base of the fire and putting it out.

Oh look it’s the 22mm hose reel that the yanks like to call a garden hose getting water on almost instantly whilst the 45mm jet is made ready. In ‘murica the whole row of houses would’ve been alight before they even got the first drop of water on.

By commenting in that way, you only serve to demonstrate your complete lack of knowledge. There's no such thing as a 45mm jet & It's a 19mm high pressure hosereel jet. I've met many ignorami at such fires.

What a twatish comment. The whole 'we get water on the fire quicker' is arbitrary when that garden hose makes no difference. It took 3 minutes to put out a fence fire with two hoses. Several folks just milling around with no SCBA's on, awesome!

because without connecting to hydrant the engine can pump out the water in 2 minutes - so they used the water to save the house and proportionally to extinguish it before they could connect to the hydrant.

LittlePsycho . One of the best comments I've read on firefighting KZfaq videos and very observant. After doing this job for 30 years I can't tell you how many times I've had people shouting in my face to "put it out then!". It's not that simple. You can do many things with the water and control they way it acts. If you look closely you can see some guys are using sprays and some using jets. Spray will cool but has little knockdown pressure and short distance throw. These are trying to turn the water to steam which is the most effective way to extinguish. The jets are being used to reach the gutter line and roof line to stop the fire getting into the loft. They sometimes hit the fire with jets to try to use the pressure to literally knock the fire out. They done a god job here because the OIC had them protecting the house as well as hitting the flames. Been to some fires where first crews have neglected the house behind and concentrated on the fire and are surprised when the house is lost. It comes with experience. Get a smoke detector.

grey I like exposing ignorance and incompetence in a service where people have sworn to protect property. I RARELY get the opportunity to compliment a good performance and love to throw it in the face of our American service that think they are superior to the rest of the world. I Love when a department in England stops the truck and gets FAST water on the burning material not Let it burn while we climb on the roof to vent or set up a dozen ladders or break every window in site or wait until a hydrant was hooked up or wait until every piece of our uniforms was in place for an exterior tank water fire. I know those weren't necessary here but still, American big name departments would have Screwed The pooch on something even This easy Here they used Fast water, protected the soffit, adjusted the cone of the water to suit the situation and got the job done quick.
@greyman686
@greyman686 7 жыл бұрын
JB91710 How many outdoor fires on a 2 story building like this can you find mind me that have people climbing to the roof etc? So because they use PPE that's supplied, and we all know if they don't the safety Nazis go mental, they're screwing the pooch? I think you're getting a little excessive here and just don't want to admit that this would be pretty basic even in the US.
@JB91710

So you'll post dozens and dozens of links then of this exact same scenario? Fire on the side of a two story home with no known extension inside and I'll see all the firefighters walk past the fire to go to the roof, setup dozens of ladders etc? I await all those links.

I think that they did not deploy the jet until they had a hydrant connection. Conserving the tank water for the hose-reels protecting the house was a sensible decision, since the fire in the garden did not pose any particular threat.

More effective. Saves more water, it's quicker, and it enables somebody to ship the hydrant before the tank is drained. It means you can fight a fire almost instantly, preventing it from escalating. Once the Hydrant is shipped you can whack a line of 70mm on it if it really comes to it but given the circumstances it really wasnt necessary.
