burning my oil paintings. Releasing the past and embracing the unknown

I had to let this one go. Countless hours spent creating intricate brushstrokes turn to ashes. By setting this artwork ablaze I am releasing the past and embracing the unknown. I find solace in the impermanence of life, change is constant. I am letting go of attachments and embracing the ephemeral beauty of the present moment. This painting has served its purpose, and now it is time to be set free

I needed to see this. I need to do the same with all the pieces I have unfinished. They’ve been haunting me for so long. I am done with those lessons, and it’s time to move on. Thank you.

Yes. I can keep and store my old unsold work or I can paint over it, destroy it, or throw it in the trash. For me it just becomes clutter. If you keep them for to long you only become your own greatest collector. There’s also something freeing that happens when you do this. Destroying my old work has now become part of my process.

Thank you for sharing this information. It comes at a time that i really needed this inspiration I lost my wife this past September to pancreatic cancer, and she was my arthritis incurage. for I to have got to point with oil painting that it wasn't working out fast enough for me, and acrylics is okay but loved deep shines and color of oil but now seeing what you're doing with charcoales has really inspired me to give it try again, I have everything I need because I dabbled in it a little Ty.

I was shocked by the title but I get it now. I always said to the kids in my studio: It's okay to fail, if you never fail you don't learn anything because you are doing only those things that you already know and can do. Burning it seems a bit extreme but now I think I have a few things to burn too, just get rid of it and move on. 😅🌷 Good fire and great video by the way.

You push hard, it's something most people cannot seem to muster. I deeply appreciate your choice to be vulnerable about your thought process, because as I said many of us don't realize that we do the same things you do. We think that our work must come out perfect right out of the gate! And it's just absurd to try and start at the end. The idea that you can see perfection, means you will get there and then need to reinvent yourself! The goal post should keep moving, if not then you have ended, but the story isn't over! You keep creating, you beautiful creature you!

Oil will only stick to a thicker layer, so when you start thin, there’s nowhere to go. There is something called liquid white that has various tints that might help.

Ashes to ashes, That's the way to end a part of your journey so it can't come back to haunt you. keep moving forward. I do that too with my art when I need to move forward in my art journey and certain things I do in my life because if you don't and you stay in your comfort zone the world will pass you by. Keep up the great work and keep moving forward in life and every thing you are passionate about...

Poems for you ☺️🙂💐🌸. A Smile To Remember we had goldfish and they circled around and around in the bowl on the table near the heavy drapes A Prayer In Spring Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day; And give us not to think so far away Bridal Ballad The ring is on my hand, And the wreath is on my brow; The Giving Tree Once there was a tree.... and she loved a little boy. • Ode On A Grecian Urn Thou still unravish'd bride of quietness, Thou foster-child of silence and slow time. • A Good Boy I woke before the morning, I was happy all the day, I never said an ugly word, but smiled and stuck to play. De Rong Song Your house is Falling down Carpe Diem Age saw two quiet children Go loving by at twilight, Your Sweet Voice Today I heard your sweet voice, For the first time in a long while. And I'II get to see you soon, Those beautiful eyes and smile. When you said your name. I could no longer breathe. All I could think is I miss you, And I prayed you missed me. You told me about diffrent things. And hd funny things to say. And everything came rushing back, When I heard your sweet voice today. There were fifteen minutes of silence, But it wasn't akward it was okay. All because I knew you were there, Means so much more than I could say. You were all I had to miss, but you had to miss so much more. But all in all, in the end, Life will go on as before. But it helped me through, even if in the end my smile faded. When I heard your sweet voice, I had so much I felt and couldn't say.🌸. I wishes you Wonderful Weekend and much more Happiness Carly :) 🙂. Always 🌸. Feel a hug and have a Smile 🤗

Honestly it wasn't a bad piece of art at all. Incomplete because when greys were added it lacked the darkness in shadows but the cloth was painted very well as usual. I completely agree with your mentor on the learning curve for you. Thanks for sharing your mentors work with us too :D if possible then can you please relay him the message that his artwork was amazing, I really loved how wings were made, as a viewer it was like that pigeon/dove is flying in real. In any medium that's considered as wet medium solvent to pigment ratio goes on decreasing as you put on layers since more solvent is going to activate the pigments put in previous layers. Unlike watercolors, oil has the advantage of going from dark to light, so you can easily over paint on a mistake once the layer below is dry. I'm not sure if this phase is common in oils but watercolors have an ugly phase in artwork but one doesn't need to get discouraged as that phase only lasts until darker values are introduced to artwork so never give up on artwork lol. With all honesty I would have loved to see the finished painting. Belated happy birthday. Keep up the good work, God bless you and sky's the limit :D

Taking a page out of my musician book: "mistakes are merely an opportunity for future growth". Don't view change as wasted time or lacking success, rather strengthening your skill and knowledge to be used in a new way. You have a great outlook on life and your feet seem firmly planted, not many people can say that about themselves. Keep up the wonderful journey you have begun.

hmm....so interesting. I'm in my late 50s and I "think" I'm pivoting to a new career but I have no idea what it's going to be. THEN I find a book that is in my old career and seems really accessible but I'm finding it difficult to go back to it. SO many other things distract me even if I'm excited about that new direction of my old career. It's the weirdest thing as my savings are running out and I need to generate income which makes me want to run back to my old career.....so why the hell am I resisting reading and learning something that seems so in line with who and what I'm all about?! Sometimes I feel mental. I so wish I had a career mentor to help navigate this time in my life because I feel a bit blown by the wind right now. Honestly don't know why I even typed that - something about your pivoting into painting just resonated with me. You're such an interesting artist and I just love how you give all of us insights into your processes. You're fascinating to me in so many ways and spark thoughts no one else does. Well done and thanks for all you do.

Forgive me…. But we pour our heart our soul our spirit into our work often we need to grieve a loss….. failure is not getting back to what we love coming to grips with our pain is a different matter any one can arm chair quarterback but the process of getting over loss and hurt is personal to each of us…. It took strength to take that step, and move forward

That's so hazardous. The acrylic primer, the dried linseed oil (linoxin) and some of your pigments release highly toxic fumes and residue. That's really environmentally irresponsible and reckless. I understand that you wanted catharsis but you could've easily cut up or shredded the canvas. But you could've easily overpainted the whole thing and saved ressources and money.
@zein9227
@zein9227 4 ай бұрын
I find this very immature. Failed artworks are part of the process. Now you lost the chance to analyse the shortcomings and learn from the mistakes. I could tell you right away that your underpainting was way too dark too fast. Your midtone was a shadow value. That lost you the contrast of your drawing. Also, starting your underpainting with three highly opaque pigments (mars black, burnt umber, titanium white) made it look so dull. Glazing over it becomes really difficult.
