The station opened on 18 September 1848, as a temporary terminus for the East Lancashire Railway whilst an extension was built between Accrington and Colne. It closed four months later when the Colne extension opened.[4] However, the surrounding area developed quickly with industry, housing and the local barracks, which led to the station being reopened under its current name in 1851.

I went to Burnley when I was about 19, with my first proper girlfriend and her family - I remember being amazed that the beer was half the price of the pubs 'daan saaf'. The Weavers triangle over the last forty years has had literally tens of millions of pounds spent on it and yet it looks no different today than it did in the early 1980s. Next time you visit the town have a look at Healeywood, then go and look at Stoneyholme and Daneshouse or Burnleywood. Most people get out of Burnley, we left in 1997, those left are either old aged pensioners, chronically sick or otherwise unemployable. There is a huge drug dependency issue in the town.
@ashyclaret
@ashyclaret Жыл бұрын
You've done a great disservice to Burnley with that statement. The weavers triangle is vastly improved, the Trafalgar flats have gone and the canal looks good from that end. Also the vast majority of people in Burnley work and it's no worse than any other town in England. I'd rather live here than say Manchester.
@darrylbaker1692

Sorry but he's wrong about the 'university' and that they're all over 18... My son goes to that 'college' and is 17 and they're loads that go there that are younger than him... At the very least it's very creepy and verging on being noncy!... He may as well been doing it at a school... If my 16 year old daughter had told me that a creepy unkempt man was eye-balling and filming at the entrance, I'd be very worried and rightly so... Not cool, dude!
@TriTr-gk8bo
@TriTr-gk8bo Ай бұрын
You know the age of consent is 16, right? Nothing noncery about it, in fact calling people that when they're clearly not that is a dangerous game to play.
@davidholgate123
@davidholgate123 Ай бұрын
@@TriTr-gk8bo I said 'verging on'... If you're happy about a middle-aged man staring through a window of the college for ages and refusing to leave, where your young daughter is studying, then good for you but I wouldn't be happy with it and 99.9% of parents wouldn't be happy with it either and would think it to be very unsettling behaviour... I don't know if you have a daughter but the way they get treated by men, you'd be very much on edge with this weird behaviour at your daughter's college... It's almost a daily occurrence that my daughter gets some kind of creepy guy targeting her... Anyone who's a dad of a young daughter, would never behave in the way he's done!... It's very odd... The fact he was wrong about the age... There are 16 year olds studying there and it was HIM, who mentioned 18 year olds as a point of reference not anyone else!... If he's saying it's okay because they are 18, then surely he's alluding to it not being okay if they're younger!... And they are younger, that's the point!

I go to Burnley (by choice) every 10 days or so via the X43 bus from Prestwich, through some super countryside. I have lunch in the Mechanics bistro and mooch along the canal, through Thomson Park and Charter walk, which are all very pleasant. I haven't encountered a nutter yet, but then I'm not seeking them out. Many of the buildings are superb, and for the rest, my instinct leads me away from decay rather than towards it. As a visitor, I feel comfortable in the town.

I notice the black and white i am still not certain what the protest is all about , im slow work with me😂. My assumption is, it is to do with the much more colourful and much more detested flag of occupation. And drag queen story hour.. What the actual fuck! That's just grooming in our schools, somebody please explain this shit to me im lost it's all upside down.

Corten steel can look alright in some places, a bit dystopian though. It's been around for a long time; long lasting and low maintenance.

it is grim up north... wouldnt beg to live in Bradford, Burnley, Bolton. Get yourself to Bradford for more of the same deprivation, depression and urban decay.

I love most of Charlies videos, his confrontation videos can be a laugh, but the best ones are the ones showing towns/areas. I been to many, if not all the places and been on the canals a lot, its great escorting boaters through Cottagers Cove ! dirty area and not just the floor. Excellent Charlie. When are you back up in Scotland Charlie ?

Sorry to be Mr. Pedantic, but that '1960s' diesel engine is actually from the 1980's. It's a class 156 DMU - constructed between 1987 and 1989 - if I'm not mistaken.

Feels a bit like poverty porn. Mixed feelings about Burnley. Being from Blackburn from a Rovers fanatic family I was raised to detest the dingles. But , most folk I've come into contact with from Burnley have been lovely , down to earth folk with a passion for their football club. It does seem tho that they are a little over subscribed in the bell end department. Up the Rovers !
