One with an engine fire (and flying around waiting for rain or a fire fighter aircraft isn't exactly an option) and another with low tyre pressure (and getting a foot or hand pump and going down into the hold...again probably not an option!). that's why I never fly. I had to fly only once (in 2019) because I was broken and had to flight from Sibiu (Romania) to Stuttgart (Germany) to go work in Germany, and I had to be there within 16-17 hours, so the plane was the only option and I hated the flight. I mean, I didn't hate the flight, per se, because I slept during the entire flight (thank God for that), but I hated the idea of flying. I simply do not trust technology in this age of mankind, too many flying things get shot down, or malfunction mid-air.... and besides, flying is for birds, not humans... come to think of it, so is swimming, so fuck the ocean, too with all of its horrors.... Humans need to stay the fuck glued to the ground by gravity and that's it!

Wow- ATC had their work cut out for them that day! Both ATC and plane crews of El Al and Air Canada were incredibly calm and professional throughout. I do find something indescribably poignant about the use of the term "souls onboard" instead of "people" or "passengers and crew"....I suppose it must go back to maritime days, does anyone know the origin of the phrase?
@oldmanjim2376
@oldmanjim2376 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know the origins of the term, but it's for the responders to know how many living people they are looking for. So to differentiate if they are transporting bodies.
@spiritmatter1553

@@oldmanjim2376 I thought it was for both…so rescue and recovery efforts know when they can stop searching, once they’ve counted a sufficient number of bodies.

I looked it up and learned that "souls on board" is referenced in the Bible (!) and is used to count all passengers including children on laps. Also sometimes inanimate objects (like musical instruments, I suppose) occupy airline seats. So, a way to indicate a count of all living human beings on board.
