Improvisation.. an important skill when touring Australia solo, and your spare parts kit comes up short. Using an old rusty bottlecap I find at the campground, I create a washer to repair my broken dash while exploring Googs Track. It pays to have a wide range of tools, especially a cordless drill and bits, to perform odd repairs and maintenance on your 4WD.

It occurred to me that with modern cars a piece of kit that is never carried but should be, is a plastic repair kit. Just a DC soldering iron and a range of plastic welding rods might be a worthwhile addition.

Great bit of bush ingenuity Brett. Your comment about wrecks bought to mind the Leyland Brothers 1966 epic West to East crossing where they broke a diff towing that big trailer. They rebuilt the diff at Old Andado Station from salvaged parts from a few wrecked Series Is. Top stuff in the days without properly mapped tracks and just HF comm schedules. Looking forward to your 2021 adventures mate! Warren and Colleen.

Hey Brett. Just got my first Landrover Defender 110 and found your channel. Not sure if your out there still. Did you ever do a video of changing thermostat, bleeding after filter replacement, or changing the fan belt. Thanks

@@RoamingTheOutback Brett would you consider going into the outback desert with only one spare tyre ( and maybe a tyre repair kit)?

@@davidstrachan8912 If you only have one spare then you must take a repair kit. In 22 months of travel I had no punctures. Depends where you go, and how remote and used the tracks. I'd always take 2.. but my second was just a tyre carcass without rim to save weight.

@@RoamingTheOutback I know the feeling. I'm still trying to fit out my new (old) rig. Nearly finished all the front stuff (custom bullbar, snorkel, Engine driven on board air & second alternator etc etc then I'll move onto building the spare & Jerry can carriers, gull wings & finally the rear fit out then the rest of the electrical. Lots to go & all on a budget but we are hanging just to get out there soon I hope! Thanks for anther video.
