After using my Bushbox LF from Bushcraft Essentials for the better part of a year it's time to make a review. I show it in combination with my other cooking systems and my prefered sources of fuel. I head out in the woods to enjoy spring in full force while we here in Sweden still aren't in lockdown due to Covid-19. I also take the opportunity to try out dehydrated pulled pork with rice from Real Turmat.
I hope that this video will be useful for anyone that is deciding wether to buy a Bushbox or not, and if so please hit that "Like-button" and subscribe while you're at it.
Thank you for watching!

The collapsing design really appeals to my origami sensibilities. There might be cheaper, but this one, as you say, feels right. Good kit can put a smile on your face when it comes out the backpack. Many thanks for this video, it's all I needed to resolve my mind. Happily subscribed.

I've seen you both ways now, and I like the new "clean-shaven" look the best! :-) Hey, I have the LF titanium version and I use it in conjunction with the large Pathfinder alcohol burner. The LF acts as a glorified windscreen for the alcohol burner, and it's the perfect combination for me. Thanks for the video, my friend.

Thank you for those comforting words, though I'm now days sporting a "mask-fitted" beard that makes me feel more comfortable ;-) As for fuel, my Trangia burner is very convinient and is a good option during fire bans, but wood is still my prefered weapon of choice when the circumstances are right. Cheers mate!

The Ti bush box LF hits the sweet spot for me when I have to carry my gear. I use twigs to start the fire but burn thicker split wood standing straight up in the stove(cut to size). For a base camp we have been using the larger firebox SS and it has seen a lot of burns. Enjoyed the video cheers.

A very nice review .. thanks. I have one so am already a convert. The 'Mat Pack' wood layout that you demo'd works well for me, although, when in the mood, feeding twigs stops me from succumbing to boredom whilst waiting for the water to boil or porraige to thicken. 'Twigging' also assists in controlling heat output, especially with dishes and pot surfaces liable to scorching1. To cater for wet periods when dry wood is difficult to source, during good times, after the Forestry Services have been busy, I gather suitable wood, cut and split it to fit and then let it dry on my 3rd floor flat balcony. Lightweight, packs easy and minimum smoke. Alternate Fuels .. in addition to Wood and Alcohol, I also use Alcohol Gel .. and .. Charcoal! Charcoal .. the compressed briquettes. Ideal also, when not used outdoors, for stealth work on the flat balcony .. inter alia, toasting Marshmellows, drinking hot Gluhwein, ably assisted by the little Malti-Poo .. both of us under a blanket .. watching the New Year Fireworks Display taking place across the river in Germany. And yes .. Fireworks don't fuss Her one bit. Why 'Stealth'? 'Swiss Grannies' sitting at their Windows .. watching .. rank amongst the top Surveillance Systems in the World. They miss nothing! Have just subscribed .. take care ..

Swiss Grannies Stealth, that's too funny. I guess that bbq on the balcony is frowned upon in your neighburhood. I guess I have to try charcoal one of these days, I keep putting it off for some reason... Thanks for the sub, Cheers!

Thanks for this video! What can you tell me about the overheating/warping problem? Did you have any?
@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 9 ай бұрын
So far I have not experienced any warping whatsoever in my stainless steel bushbox. Neither the box, grate or the trivets has changed their form due to the heat. I think that the warping problem is more common with Titanium since it's thinner and conducts heat better than stainless steel, and the rapid changes in temperature in the material makes it more sensitive to warping. With that said, I have no experience of how much of a problem that is for the Buschbox Ti since I've never tried it. Cheers!

@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hoppas att du blir nöjd med din bushbox. Näver fungerar oftast även när det är blött men det är ingen dum ide att ha med lite i alla fall, det är ju inte alltid man hittar näver där man råkar vara.

Great review! Do you know if it's legal to use Bushbox in Sweden at areas where open fire is generally prohibited (but at the same time stormkök is allowed)? I couldn't find any clarifications for wooden stoves only what regards gas and spirit stoves.
@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, but I recon that when used as a twigstove it's considerad an open fire, used with a spirit burner it's not. With that said, the fire bans in Sweden can be on several stages, I remember the drought in 2018 when you weren't even allowed to use an electric grill in your backyard. The safest bet is to check with the fire brigade in your town to get the local regulations. Cheers!

@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
The grill plate was an additional feature when I bought it. If you like me sometimes use a spirit burner and a cup that's somewhat narrow like the Pathfinder it can actually be an idea to have two of them. Cheers mate.

@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Helt klart så är IKEA varianten svårslagen när det kommer till prislappen. Man kan argumentera att Bushboxen tar mindre plats i packningen men eftersom man kan fylla "IKEA-köket" med andra prylar så går det nog på ett ut. Ha de'

Good review! I will probably buy it at "Röda stjärnan". The terrain in the video is very familiar to me. So it works with Gothenburg wet and humid sticks ? Or do you prefer to bring home dried wood?
@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
As long as the sticks aren't too humid it works well enough, but in Gothenburg it's always a good idea to bring some dry ones to get it started. On the other hand, a fist full of dry birch wood will probably be enough for food and coffe, if you aren't slow cooking.

Grape seed extract please, vitamin A and garlic for pneumonia
@RedswedeOutdoors
@RedswedeOutdoors 7 ай бұрын
Never heard of grape seed extract to be honest, I'm more familiar with the fermented grape extracts. As for vitamins and garlic they can certainly not hurt in moderate doses, (overdose on vitamin A can actually be lethal), but if I had a pneumonia I would promtly see a doctor to get a proper dose of antibiotics. It's easy to forget how lethal a pneumonia could be in the pre-antibiotic era and still is if untreated. Cheers!
