In this video, we go to the Slide Mountain Wilderness Area of the Catskills in Upstate NY. We backpack in through the wilderness to scenic mountain views and enjoy some bushcraft style primitive camping, build fire, campfire cooking, and enjoy nature.
I used a Belgian Rucksack on this trip. It was a gift from my friend Tim from Tobacco Road Adventures. Give him a follow on Instagram!
Thanks for watching!

Looks like a great trip. I just picked up that same pack from Varusteleka not long ago. I got it so that I can carry in a bigger portion of the gear on trips with my boys. I don't think I'll ever load it all the way out though. I think it would be easy to overload that bad boy! Those two zip off pouches can be removed and then attached together and used as a smaller day pack too.

Nice trip, and absolutely lovely gal you got with you too, though I'm not sure why she likes those yellow glasses. I use them for shooting, but hate them for wearing. I'm also always amazed how in different places, the tree line is so different (yes, I know why). Out in the Adirondacks, I believe it's like 3500-4000, and out west it's well over 6000

Dude the campsites are packed. My buddy went take his kids our camping last weekend as a mini vacation. We're from Saugerties so he knows all the campsites around here but, they were all packed. He started looking in Sullivan county, then Delaware, then Ulster & finally Green but found nothing. He wanted to go to a camp ground because it's safer for the kids and there's activities for the kids but they were all booked. The state sites were packed. A lot of waterholes being shut down because of litter. They found 40+ BBQ grills in the stream in Palenville. Minnewaska, Colgate lake, North Lake, Devil's tombstone, Overlook, Magic Meadows, upper Esopus, the fire tower, Plattclove etc all trashed.

Awesome trekking adventure. Your Squared Away! That Belgian Back pack looks very well designed practical. Just I never liked the Belgian cammoflage pattern. The East German UTV LBE Belt, Harness Yoke and Pouches/ Holster are excellent. I tested them years ago in the EDF. Today I use the DDR NVA UTV LBE as my Hunting rig. Light boots are important . I just received my new very light weight SPG Guide Gear 17 inch tall Snake boots which I'm looking forward to test. Peanut / Almond Butter, Chocolate, Halva Beef/Deer/Bufallo/ Pork Jerky are are good energy foods for on the go. Tacos,Burger, Pizza look good. The Catskils are beautiful enjoying God's creation. Safe Journeys.

@@EnduranceRoom I will have to get mine out for when we meet up. We really benefited from Germany Unifying in 1990 getting the East German M87 NVA UTV gear as it was not fully issued out to the majority of NVA units being a then newly designed produced Load Bearing Harness system sitting in NVA storage warehouses. I was stationed in the US Army in Germany at the time (1988-1992) and had contact connections with Several Surplus sources including directly with Thomas Sturm. I got a bunch of both the new and older designed NVA FDA BDU Uniforms, M56/76 Helmets the UTV Pouches Belts like a UTV PM Holster in Berlin from Stefan Militaria. Latter I acquired allot more DDR M87 NVA UTV gear. Used it all effectively in my EDF service when I we were developing testing Load Bearing Equipment Gear back in 1995-97. The DDR NVA M87 UTV system gear is a modified copy of the British Web Carrying gear. Which I found it to be in some ways superior to the USA LBE gear espically with the UTV Hook fastening style system vs the US Alice clip retention system. Check out my review of the UTV Pistol/Utility Belt on Sportsmans Guide web site. Now I use the UTV as my Hunting Wilderness Carry Rigs which I will show you when we get together later on.

@@EnduranceRoom Same here Sir looking forward to our eventual meeting. Yes the UTV LBE was slated to be mass issued to the NVA Troops. German Unification stopped that. I herd that only one or two Companies got it fully issued. We really got a token with receiving all of it Brand new Not issued.

My cousin lives on Slide, they don't have electricity. Check out "The Maze" in Arkville sometime, it's a fun side quest. Not sure what the protocol is, or if there is a protocol for that matter. I never got permission. It's off to the South of Rt28, south of the old rail line as soon as you enter Arkville. There's an old train bridge near by. If you traveling West on 28 it's just past the Arkville sign. It's pretty cool it's got to statues of inside and it's dug into the Earth. At one time (August 69) it was the largest maze if it's kind not sure if that's still true. Ya can see it on Google maps.
@blackbarnz
@blackbarnz 4 жыл бұрын
Ok if ya Google "Arkville NY Maze" or "Erpf Maze" you'll find it. The abandoned town of "Lundy" near Kerhonkson is an interesting side quest, step back in time.

@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 4 жыл бұрын
Brian Miller thanks! I would try a 45lb kettlebell. If you can military press the 40s for a few reps, it should be a good fit. If you can do 8-10 reps, I would grab a 53lb/24kg kettlebell. The Russian Kettlebell Challenge is a really good book with 2 good programs in it that covers all the bases. Its definitely worth doing.

This time the bear warnings and sign-in were just after you left the parking lot. Did you bring a bear hang or can? Been some incidents this year in the area due to poor camper etiquette, basically lots of newbies due to covid boredom leaving trash behind, burning trash, or food laying about or out at night. There's some great soft flat spots further down. fyi.
@EnduranceRoom
@EnduranceRoom 3 жыл бұрын
tnprime we signed in and food hung proper. woods was pretty clean when we were there, but we pick up stuff all the time. It was a good trip. For what its worth, we know there are bears (thats one of the reasons for the dog). The ADKs through us off last year. We read it was primitive camping and in my mind that meant fire.
