A nice addition to the coxy crumble might be a handful of baking chocolate chips, they’d probably melt better than the block you put in there, plus you could just throw them in the same bag as the oats, cinnamon & brown sugar.

I noticed one of those little magnifier lenses in your fire kit, they're great for 50c ! Just not in a rainforest environment ! lol Your little titanium pan is looking so beaten up ! Don't you have any mates with an anvil you could hammer it flat on ? lol I know you go to the ocean a lot, next time you do, grab a nice big mussel shell for a great bearing block. You made that friction fire look really easy ! 😜

I read a blog once about an Australian bow drill hobbyist who said Australian woods are generally very difficult to get useful embers with other than the grass tree (which will give an ember even from ‘hand drill’ method) but grass tree has a limited distribution in Australia, apparently Aboriginals traded grass tree all over Australia which shows how difficult it was to get decent friction fire wood, also explains why the Aboriginals were so big on ‘carrying fire’, because it was so hard to start another from scratch, meanwhile the American Indians have a wide variety of good bow drill woods to choose from

Check out NSW Forests maps. I live near Pensylvania/Roseburgh state forest, lots of remnant rain forest where you can take a dog. First nations used to rate the coldness of a night by how many dogs you need to keep warm. Currently 3 degrees C, 10 cm of snow today so far. So get more dogs or wait. Cheers

I know of 4 different ways to tie a trucker's hitch and what you have tied is one of the variations of that hitch. I have been using your variation for more than 40 years to secure all sorts of cargo. So, don't let folks tell you it isn't. It's just one iteration of the hitch. Tim Thompson, who I believe is a fellow Aussie, has a KZfaq video showing 3 additional variations of the Trucker's hitch. REI has a KZfaq video showing the iteration that you and I use.

That kind of apple pie is great! Mom used to make it a lot as we had apples growing in the backyard. That crunchy oatmeal crust is what really takes the cake. The saltiness from the butter really elevates the taste too. If you like, you can also put a bit of salt over the apple slices before you put the crust dough over it. A great way to enjoy it is together with a cold vanilla sauce mixed with whipped cream.
