Hey legends, I hope everyone is doing well, particularly if you're in lockdown. As I mentioned in the vid, considering this is how I earn income and after speaking to the authorities, I'm very fortunate to be able to continue to get out there and make these vids for you all for the time being (note: I won't be going regional. Just within the Sydney basin). I hope everyone is well and staying safe and fingers crossed that these lockdowns lift soon so we can all get back out and do what we love. Take care folks. Oh, and don't forget to subscribe! (Help me get to 100k!) 😉 🤙

On the odd chance you look at this to respond. What do you do to 'water proof' or seal your pack? I think I noticed a video where you waxed and heated with the hair dryer.

Can I ask Scotty is it part of the Kurangai Chase National Park System ? ,It looks familiar or are you keeping it to yourself so the idiots out there won't vandalised or create havoc out there with fire etc. ? Eels are tricky to catch you have to play with your bait . Sometimes you have to go where there is running water & they inhabit the deeper pools . As for bait they will eat anything but sometimes you just have to go up & down the banks to find them . I've only caught them In estuaries or fast moving creeks & played with the bait & when you catch them especially fresh water ones , you have to make sure you snag them well or they'll chew through the line ! I'll be checking out those knives kits & I am lucky I live out near the Grampians way but because of the weather it's too wet to go camping but am able to go hiking instead ! So keep on pumping out those vids & hopefully this virus will go away in time !

It's a sad situation and I hope you get back to some sort of normal soon in Australia. Good thing you are allowed to get out into the bush, must feel so good right now, and we get to enjoy some outdoor content on KZfaq. Best wishes from Sweden

I'm a 40 year old disabled guy from southern Sydney and during the lockdown I've made the choice to get into camping. I'm the type of guy that doesn't let my disability stop me from doing things. This lockdown has given me the chance to save some money so I'll be spending my money on camping gear. I'm also a youtuber so will be videoing my camping experiences for my KZfaq channel once lockdown is over.

Hey Scotty! You need to leave that eel line out over night. They prefer to eat in the dark usually. Best to tie your line around a tree and check it in the morning. Make sure to use eel hooks (the red ones) to make sure you hook it properly. Take care mate! 🤙

Spitfires usually feed separately on gumtree leaves at night and during the day live in large groups - up to hundreds - clustered together on the branches of eucalypt trees. They live in these clusters

Eel fishing. Use a big hook, eels have a tendency to inhale the bait and a big hook is easier to deal with. Set your hand line and stack some rocks on it so it can't be pulled in. Run your line around a branch or even grass. Something what will wiggle and wave around. If you have a fishing bell clip it to this. Thing with eels is its a waiting game. I get a line in straight away then set up camp. You don't need to be picky where you fish for eels. My priority is that I can keep an eye and ear out for the line from camp. One other tip is when I grab a eel I get a hand full of sand first, it helps grip the eel and soaks up some of the slime. Oh and if you are leaving your line avoid snaggy places, cast it in the open. But if you are going to sit there holding it cast towards snags and overhangs. Even small holes can hold large eels.
@ScottysGoneWalkabout

Awesome mate. Thanks heaps for the tips.
@archibaldthesimple
@archibaldthesimple 2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottysGoneWalkabout now worries. It's important to secure the line. If you leave it on a branch or sitting on a stick it will just free spin and you won't set the hook and they can get back into a snag. If you set it lying flat with a rock on top it stops this. You can use lighter rocks to set the drag too if you want as it will allow it to spin a bit with friction. I've caught eels, catfish and Mary River cod with this set up in the fresh.

Nice spot again. Here in Newfoundland Canada, we eel fished after dark when I was a young lad and thats when they come out. You can just leave the hook in the water and check it through the night or the next morning. Set a few lines for better success.

Nice one again Scotty. Caterpillars at 5:40 were known as Spitfires where I grew up. They shoot some nasty venom as I remember. Causes a big welt. Had an awesome Angophra in my front yard. Can relate.
