This is probably the final video in the 110+ yr old Buss Machinery Company 8" jointer restoration...as it is all put back together and works great for the test cuts.
In this video I installed the new blades and got them adjusted fairly well (If anyone has comments on that please let me know in the comments).
Are they identical in height...no...but they are within 1/64 of an inch or so...which is far better than the over 1/16th inch the old ones were out of whack. Plus the new ones do not have any nicks (yet), so it worked ok for the test cuts.
One thing I may decide to do later is adjust the dust collection box to try and direct the chips into the dust tube a bit better. That could be fixed in a few ways, one would be to drill some holes to let air in to help blow the chips towards the outlet, or, add in slanted hardboard to help direct them (like I did in my downdraft table and router table where that works great).
In any case I am so glad this turned out as nice as it did, and works as nice as it did. Now I get to figure out if I want to keep it and use it when I rarely if ever need a jointer, or if I try and sell it and get some garage space back. At least now it will be selling a nice working restored tool vs how I got it.
So how did everyone enjoy the jointer series? What do you prefer, tool restoration or wood project videos?
