@@GarytheWaterGuy Gary your videos have made me understand my water softener & set it up for far better water than was ever possible. We have had years & years of chancers service our system and basically just left in on the manufacturers factory settings.

Maybe yours has a UV light on it to kill bacteria which might explain that warning if you looked at the light

Hello Gary. Great info, just subscribed. I am using RO systems for about ten years and have a question. I have purchase RO system for 75gpm and changed the membrane to 100gpm on my scheduled replacement and changed the tank to the bigger capacity (I have espresso machine plumbed to the system) My question is if it I upgraded from 75gpm to 100gpm the right way? Thank you in advance.

Usually the flow restrictor is sized based on the size of the membrane. But I don't know what size flow restrictor you would need for your new 100 gpd membrane. Maybe check with the membrane manufaturer?

Thank you for your reply. If you are referring to the drain line restrictor, my system originally came without it APEC 75gpm.

I am on a well running a whole house sediment filter into a carbon/peroxide iron and sulfur filter and finally into a water softener. The hardness level before the softener is about 27gpg. Should the 5 stage RO system be fed by soft water?

Hello Gary - During a trip to Mexico and drinking only bottled water, i noticed that my heartburn issues totally went away versus at home where we run a RO system with a calcium re- supplement. Thoughts on how I can modify my system to help?

Was the bottled water you were drinking in Mexico Reverse Osmosis? Try using your system without the remineralizing filter to see if that is the proiblem.

Hi Jarrett. Great observation. We face the same issue at home. Outside we are fine. We are planning to get an RO system since we figured there is some issue with the tap water.

Hi Gary. Love your videos. Quick question: if I’m running a whole house softener (Hague Watermax) is it true that I don’t need to change my downstream RO filters each year? Thanks and appreciate you!
@GarytheWaterGuy

Not at all. The membrane in your RO will last longer but the sediment and cabon filters will still need to be changed every year.

@@GarytheWaterGuy Glad I asked. Has been a few years since the filters were changed and our guy still says no need because TDS still low. Water tasted great and flow is still strong. But, I’m changing them this weekend and will do so each year going forward. Thanks much.

If I have a whole house Softener and Conditioner (Catalytic Carbon) would I still need an under sink RO?
@GarytheWaterGuy
@GarytheWaterGuy 8 ай бұрын
Yes, you do. Reverse Osmosis does so much more than just remove what those 2 pieces of equipment remove. It also removes PPCp's, PFAS, PFOA, lead, sodium and muc, much more. It also depends on the mineral content (TDS) of your water. The higher the TDS the more you need a Reverse Osmosis drinking water system.

For years we used these aftermarket water filter systems mostly gravity filters and just recently I installed 6 stages filter housings and trust me, no matter how many filter stages you make then it doesn't do any good as reverse osmosis can. And the amount of money I wasted everytime I changed those filters in just 3-4 months because after those months the water is have fishy taste and foul smells. The tds too doesn't drops significantly. Until I decided to go to RO and luckily, I was able to buy some parts online which is more cheaper than local shops nearby So I build one and now my tds drops from 80-90 to just 4 tds 😊 And its way more cheaper and time saver because all you need to do is to replace three filters every 6 months and the membrane every 2-3 years. I will never go back to those expensive and yet not effective water filtration system other than RO 😊

Depends what it is, some get reduced by 85% while others get reduced by 100%. But they all get reduced by some major amount.

Got an interesting issue. So I moved from a well system which was 80 tds and since moving to city it's dropped to 21 tds I cleaned my system well and Ever since putting new filters my wife says it tastes like chlorine. I have 1 sediment and 2 carbon filters before membrane. Any thoughts on why? Now I do want to mention before I hooked up membrane she tried water after carbon and no taste

Are you thinking the taste is coming from the membrane? If so, I would replace the membrane.

if we drink RO water our body cells dont do osmosis? take out minerals out of our cells?
@GarytheWaterGuy
@GarytheWaterGuy 5 ай бұрын
No, reverse osmosis water will not take any minerals out of your body. Keep in mind that over 95% of the minerals you need come from your food, not your water.
@Andrey0348
@Andrey0348 4 ай бұрын
@@GarytheWaterGuy thank you for your answer, so if 95% of the minerals come from food and we drink RO water, Osmosis wont happed naturally in our body and "take" most of the 95% minerals we get from food? (sorry for my English 😅)
@andreedrysdale6359
@andreedrysdale6359 2 ай бұрын
Yes it does good observation. "Direct effects of low mineral (RO) water on the intestinal mucous membrane: It has been reported by WHO and other studies that drinking of demineralised water can cause electrolyte imbalance in body as all the minerals from such water are filtered off by semipermeable membrane in reverse osmosis or removed by distillation in distilled water. So this mineral free water in our body leaches electrolytes from our tissues, so that our body can function normally and can eliminate waste. If water redistribution process in our body is not functioning properly, one may feel fatigue, muscle cramps, weakness, headache and abnormal heart rate. In the past, acute health problems were reported in mountain climbers who used to drink water from melted snow that was not supplemented with necessary ions. More severe health problems arising from such condition are brain oedema, convulsions, metabolic acidosis etc.” (Saini, 2017) o

@@Skywalkerthebarber We get minerals from both sources just more from food. But the question is will water with zero minerals (salt, calcium, and magnesium) leach those minerals from your cells and the answer is yes. If you were getting the exact amount you need from food it could reduce your mineral uptake.
