The interface for scrolling through running apps to find the one you want to switch to totally sucks. That’s the main reason I kill apps that are just in the way and I’m forced to scroll through too many. IIRC there used to be a better interface. Then they ruined it.

I don’t think it does I am constantly having my phone on the charger it is right now. I have had iPhones for over a decade and after every 2 years that I trade them in they have over 90 % of life in them still! And last as long as my new ones. I average about 10 hours of heavy use a day.

When my old ipad (6) seems to struggle and starts lagging, I either let it cool down or force quit any open apps and every time it solves the problem.

I always quit out navigation apps when I see that they’re still tracking GPS because my guess is that hurts battery. I wish Apple was better about telling us what the max charging power each device can take. Same with cables.

So I’m watching a video in KZfaq, and I pause that video. I have a bunch of apps open. I check email, send a few messages, etc. An hour or so later I go back and I get the KZfaq homepage. If I closed all the apps except for KZfaq and the one or two I actually needed, when I go back to KZfaq I’m where I left off. The memory management Apple is so proud of only works if you don’t care if an app resets.

Hello mate, for the first one, with closing apps, its true. I has some laggish keyboard very very laggish in imessage and after closing all the apps, about 50 in backgound, everything like new. Before I was thinking the same, like you say in the video. But I wanted to try and its surprised me. Greetings!

As phones get older, their processors do too and they struggle to handle the newer software with the limited ram they have. This will cause your phone to slow down a bit. Next to a new phone it'll look like it's really slow but it's not. It's not a planned push to get you to buy newer iphones. In fact, Apple charges a premium because they expect you to keep the phone for a long while. They make their extra money from services. When your phone lasts a long time with nice services, you'll want to by another iphone yourself. There's no need for Apple to force you.

Exactly! just because Apple -- and others -- develop new features, apps, and experiences, doesn't mean it is planned obsolescence. It's just new features!

Still, Apple assumes people know nothing about tech and offers only limited influence on how the battery is charged. I would like to set the max to 80% and slow don’t the charging. And I would like to be able to do it easily, without the settings’ labirynt.
@AppleInsider
@AppleInsider 26 күн бұрын
I mean, they make the phone operate as you'd expect. Then for anyone who wants to change it, can. It can't just limit people's battery without telling them. That would be confusing.

@@AppleInsider Apple makes their software the way they want, not the way users want. The amount of customisation is poor. I use iPhone because of the ecosystem and because Mac is the tool of my trade.

@@AppleInsider Everyone no, but more people yes. :) Especially with features available on Android for a long time. Saying that, Apple’s ecosystem is great so these are just downsides for me. Generally it takes long time do achieve similar things in comparison.

So many wrong info. iPhone have limited memory so if you are opening a ram-hogging app the phone will force-close background apps but that would take time and battery. While the power saving from manually force-close background apps aren't big it is saving at the end of the day. Apple is also doing planned obsolescence by limiting the memory and battery size on iPhones. As apps get bigger and bigger as time goes on, iPhone have to carry out more and more memory swap making the phone less and less responsive and have to access the storage more frequently. iPhone's battery is also less advanced than the battery on Chinese flagship phones that have more enengy density and better cooling

I’d be more comfortable dropping it in the toilet than the pool. Only due the chemicals in pool water possibly eating away at materials it comes in contact with. Idk if that’s a valid thought but fresh water seems a lot safer than chlorinated water

I do food delivery (DoorDash, etc). One day about a year ago I simply walked to a customer’s front door with my iPhone 12 in medium rainfall. 30 minutes later (with the phone in a window-attached bracket), I plugged it my car charger and got a warning I’d never seen nor heard about. It told me that the phone couldn’t or shouldn’t charge as there was water in the charging port! From normal rain?!? After 30 minutes of sitting straight upright?!? Sheesh! So much for the water protection rating! 🙄

Well apple deliberately slows devices. Earlier when Apple was charged of slowing iphones THEY GAVE BATTERY HEALTH FEATURE but do you remember that time we had option - to choose between perforamance or battery life. WHY THE OPTION IS NOT THERE NOW ?
@AppleInsider
@AppleInsider 26 күн бұрын
Because Apple said that subsequent iPhones had this built into the OS and managed performance in a dynamic way that wasn't so detrimental and wouldnt force users to choose between one or the other.
@manavspolia
@manavspolia 26 күн бұрын
@@AppleInsider thats why i am saying this DYNAMIC slows normal task like unlocking iphone , opening browser / phone / messages, WHEREAS working fine in PUBG,Video editing, heavy tasks . Its COMPULSIVE to see how calculated steps apple take to make you upgrade phone because for normal task user uses the phone most of time. EVEN IF one gets battery replaced from apple then also battery starts swelling after 1.5 years. SO DYNAMIC IS THE CULPRIT TO BE BLAMED. WHY NOT BOTH OPTION DYNAMIC OR MANUAL
@AppleInsider
@AppleInsider 26 күн бұрын
@@manavspolia wow.. this is just not true. The alternative is to not let your phone work, brick, and forcibly restart. Which is better, Apple reducing frame rates and dynamically adjust phone performance just before it shuts down or letting your phone basically brick, shut down, and just not work? Clearly the former. It prevents people from having to upgrade and greatly increases the lifespan of a phone. If your battery is so damaged that your phone needs to take these steps, you likely would be trashing it and upgrading it or moving to a different platform because it's so bad.
@manavspolia
@manavspolia 26 күн бұрын
@@AppleInsider i understood what you said, but my point is THAT “ APPLE SLOWS DOWN ITS DEVICES “ - now that can be for any reason from apple. But this whole controversy can be solved if APPLE PROVIDES OPTION BETWEEN dynamic OR manual UNDER BATTERY SETTING. Let user decide, and ALSO just because some user wants a particular feature, it doesnt mean that they want to switch different platform, might be they are loving existing device much that they dont want company to control the device the user have paid for.
