BUT I CAN'T ACCEPT MY WEIGHT GAIN - LIFE AFTER DIETS EPISODE 12
You may know that diets don't work, but now what? Here at the life after diets podcast we explore that very question. How are we supposed to get comfortable in our bodies and feel balanced with food when we throw the rule book away.
In this episode we look at how to cope with weight gain when you know the answer doesn't lie in dieting. Maybe you are in recovery from restrictive and/or binge eating and find yourself wanting to lose weight.
Sarah and Stef share their own experiences and struggles and discuss
Feeling a sense of panic that weight gain will never end
How society perceives weight gain
The difference between recovering into a straight size body vs a larger body
Accepting weight gain vs not eating with integrity
Weight as a distraction from uncomfortable life situations

This is such a good podcast. Fear of weight gain is my biggest block to full recovery

Awesome episode! I relate so much to you, Sarah, when you talk about there were really 2 choices: 1. Try to lose the weight again and 2. Try to accept being in a bigger body but then option number 1 never worked! Such a humbling experience for sure. Also the thing about trying to lose a little weight just to fall back into bingeing.. ugh. It's intense. Thanks to both of you for your amazing work!

So please forgive me if you all have already spoke about this, I've missed a couple of episodes. "But what if I am single and in the dating world?" I am experiencing low self confidence and this is connected to my set weight being way higher than I want it to be. I don't find myself attractive, how will people on a dating app find me attractive??? Thank you for the podcast, really appreciate it!

What can be done for a person who's body really isn't functioning well because of extra weight. Difficulty with walking, pain, fatigue. Can't take a regular walk, can hardly make it through a regular shopping trip? I feel I need to look at losing weight for my health and comfort, even though just the thought of it is a huge trigger for me.

I don’t have the answer for you personally. BUT. I can suggest that : I think the answer is in the question. It seems like you know that you want to pursue weight-based health changes. Perhaps start with visiting a doctor, checking out your vitals and blood-work and see what might be happening physiologically to cause the issues you are experiencing? I’m sorry you’re having a tough time : 🙁🙁

@@stevielove4778i mean, food. food is the cause. to fix it you would inherently need to start editing your food choices which is a pit for most of us.

I havent binged like I was, my body size is stabilized but I'm larger than I've ever been. I see photos and I'm disgusted. I don't know how to not want to lose weight. I'm ashamed to eat because I know what people think, large people don't deserve to eat everything we want.

So not eating with morality (what eat) vs eating with values (how eat)?

No. Intuitive eating Does Not work when you have a food addiction. Intuitive eating ballooned me up to 340lbs. That has Zero to do with "social standards." These two seem to be speaking to chronic dieters who put on like 5-10lbs and want to look better in a dress and become obsessive. For most of us actually struggling with obesity and true BED, this is just not good advice.

I hear you. I don’t believe there is one path for everyone and intuitive eating isn’t some magic cure for all. Some people find what they thought was food addiction was actually an out of control desire for high energy food that was triggered by restriction (or threat/fear of restriction). For these people working on permission to eat really does calm down binge urges. It’s not for everyone. Binge eating is a very complex bio-psycho problem that we just don’t know enough about. In the UK, treatment is based off of bulimia research because there is not enough about binge eating. Not all bingeing is caused by restriction, triggers can include traumatic, early coping patterns, hormonal issues, neuro chemistry, habituations… and for these intuitive eating is going to be a very limited approach. This video here is from the Life After Diets podcast so yes, this is for people who want to give up dieting and that is not going to be everyone with BED. You might find some of the videos on my channel helpful as I cover binge eating through a wider lens there. I can’t say for sure it will speak to your experience. BE is such a private, life-sucking, constant strangle.. I hope at least to help people realise they are not alone ❤️

Intuitive Eating is not the only viable path for binge eating recovery. Admittedly there are drawbacks and nuances to any approach when applied as a blanket cure. We do not endorse a one size fits all approach. And, we both struggled with true BED.

I feel the same! I thought this was about obese binge eaters who need to eat less in order to get healthy and not thin people who are obessessed with becoming even thinner. Intuitive eating does not work for emotional eaters. It just makes things worse and worse and worse. Listening to this specific episode makes me feel that I have come to the wrong place. I appreciate your work. But you should be more specific with who these videos are made for.

Why did you make this video? Why did you have to talk about your experiences? It scares me I don’t worry cover no more I thought everybody’s different. Why do you have to share your stories with everybody?
