Johnny, as far as using J.B. in the throat of the chamber, what John is talking about is the roughness that is produced there from repeated firings, it will start to look like cement patched potholes in that area under a bore scope. There is a school of thought as far as using J.B., That product won't harm your barrel, what it does do is remove all the copper fouling, Your cut in the barrel will collect copper and some say that is a bad thing, But what that copper does do is fill all the small voids and makes the barrel a consistent surface for the bullet to pass through making everything smoother. I use 1/2 Kroil and 1/2 Hoppies mix for my barrel's as a cleaning solvent. Btw off subject, The K-31, Have you thought about getting some newer sights for it in a target type? I think you will find that the rifle will surprise you in accuracy and move to one of your best shooters. they are not that picky about powders in the burn rate of IMR 4895 through 4320. I am very pleased with mine and it will never be for sale. Dave.

I have done several loadings with Vihtavuori and have always been very pleased with it. It is very easy to measure with both with my Perfect powder loader and my trickler. And, as you found, the performance has always been very consistent. Good stuff no doubt. Whether it is worth the extra money depends on what your doing and how much money you have, I guess.

Great shooting JRB, the eyeball test definitely looks like the Magneto speed chronograph hurt accuracy a touch. Still shot great though. I have that same Forster ultra micrometer seating die that I use on my Redding T-7 and I get the same exact marks on my bullets. 69 and 77 grain SMK's don't seem to leave marks as bad as the 55 grain bullets. I have polished the inside of mine with steel wool that I wrapped around a .22 brass brush and then coated it with Flitz, I then chucked it up in a cordless drill and polished the inside of the die. The marks are definitely caused from the feed ramp area of the die, I called Forster and they said I could send it in, but the inside of that die is .224 diameter so it's tight with some bullets. I also chucked a 69 grain Sierra match king in the drill and coated it with Flitz to polish the inside of the seater stem to help with the ring it was also leaving on some bullets. After all the polishing it seemed to help some, but depending on the bullet I still get some scuff marks. It has not affected accuracy any so I decided to not send my die in. Hope this helps.

JRB - Nice video - you've got a good shooting rig with that good varmint Sierra slug and Vv powder...!! Win 748 fans don't have to get all excited even though their favorite powder took a beating in this video...happens - that's why we test. Been using Sierra bullets ever since day one of my reloading....gone through the ground squirrel fields of Williams and Weed, CA, and the High Power Competitions using the 69 gr and 168 gr JHPBT MatchKings (SMKs) as my bullets of choice. Great work on this channel of yours - always fun to drop in and see whatchagotgoin'... FC Steve

This is my WOA 18" complete upper free floating varmint barrel fluted 1 in 7" twist attached to a Colt M-4 with a Geissele SSA-E trigger. Using reloaded Sierra 69 grain Match King bullets it shoots 3/8" five shot groups at 100 yards. I also have a Bushnell 4.5-18x40mm scope with Custom Turret label accurate out to 900 yards. The rings are 1" high QD aluminum. The group in the picture was with 65 grain Sierra Game kings which I use for deer..The 65 grain Sierra Game kings will shoot 10 shots inside of a dime if I am careful.

I would like to try the Wylde chamber out. It seems to really produce the velocity. I shoot 55's out of an 18 inch barrel and a 24 incher. My load for both is 26.2 grains of 748. The 18 incher delivers 2875 fps and the 24 inch barrel averages just over 3000fps. Both drastically slower than that fast barrel you have!

Very interesting video. Glad to see your magnetospeed comparison. Bring on the Pitchforks from the folks that don't have one! I just bought a Forster seating die for my 6.5 creedmoor. Hoping it helps a little. It sure looks nice. Have you ever done a run out test comparing any of your dies in various calibers? I picked it over the Redding on cost but also Redding claims to tell you that compressed loads void your warranty?
@JohnnysReloadingBench
@JohnnysReloadingBench 7 жыл бұрын
The seating stem is pretty thin near the edges. I have noticed in my 300blk die that seating a bunch of heavily compressed loads will bend it out a little. When it gets spread/bent out the fit to the sliding "chamber" will get very tight and sometimes stick. What I have to do every once in a while is pull out the seating stem, chuck it in a drill, and polish it down just a little with some steel wool. If you don't have the die in your hands yet that probably doesn't make any sense. It's not a huge deal. I think I've done it twice with my 300blk die...so it doesn't become a problem very often. I assume that Redding uses a similar seating stem and has the same problem.

I find poly tip bullets usually have some variance in ORL. You chose not to crimp. I assume this is due to having a compressed load? if uncompressed do you crimp (gas gun only)?

I love VV powders. I am slowly shifting to it in all calibers. Have not tried it on 5.56 yet and want to build a nice load for my spr using Sierra 77gr SMK-C in a Noveske 18in barrel. Sierra calls 23.5 gr of N140 and 77SMK-C their "Accuracy Load" Have not tried it yet but looking forward to it. Have you tried any 77 gr SMK-C's yet in any of your videos?

No, but I'm planning to buy some soon. Once the Bobs' bullets get old I am going to buy some of the Black Hills ammo and to a series on cloning its performance. Someone suggested it in yesterday's video (i think) and it sounded like a good idea to me. It's hard to complain about VV cost when it comes through every time in performance. I am pretty amazed, really...I just started trying them in the last few months.

....just reloaded some 55grn BK's with N133 for my 22" 1:9 bolt, I started much lower with 22.9gr as max load but it was the best with a 1/2" group. According to VV, the 24.2grn is the "accuracy" charge for 55grn bullets with N133 but it seems too hot to me?!

Try using a better primer IMO, the CCI 41 is a mil-spec primer that has a magnum priming charge. Give the Winchester Small Rifle or the Federal Small Rifle a try and see how the groups do. I've never seen the CCI mil-spec primers do well in accuracy, just look at the benchrest shooters and you will see what primers do best for groups :) As for the powders, 748 is a great powder for BULK 223 loads (FMJ range loads etc) but the Vihtavuori powders are the king of the hill for the accuracy world.
@WilliamKister
@WilliamKister 4 жыл бұрын
CCI 450 is a small rifle primer and lots of match shooters use them
@jimhans1
@jimhans1 4 жыл бұрын
William Kister 3-gun match shooters sure. But ACCURACY match shooters (benchrest, PRS, NRL, etc) do not use them, the CCI primers have always had issues with inconsistency in velocity and accuracy. Even the factory made black hills MK262 ammo uses the OEM Remington 7-1/2 BR primer...... not a CCI!
@WilliamKister
@WilliamKister 4 жыл бұрын
@@jimhans1 Negative, the CCI 450 is a primer many Benchrest shooters. My 6mm BR gets some of the smallest extreme spreads with them, especially with the slower powders for the job.
@jimhans1
@jimhans1 4 жыл бұрын
William Kister now go try a decent primer and see what happens :) Every gun is different, every reloader is different, occasionally there will be the random load that CCI 450 might do better, but not usually. What I said prior still applies, the vast, vast majority of top shooters in the precision rifle world do NOT use any CCI primers, and for good reason.
