#6 In this video I talk about all the tractors I have owned before finding the best tractor for my needs. Buying your first tractor can be intimidating so I think a lot of people look for a smaller tractor which could be a mistake. I give my opinion and a few examples of why you may want to look at a bigger tractor and how the Kubota L3901 was best for me.

Some things I learned along the way after getting land: My 1st was a 30hp open cab JD, great little tractor, #1 is get a 3 point quick attach, you will not regret this. I have since gotten a larger one with cab and A.C. If I could just have one tractor I would have started with around 50hp with cab if I could afford it. You want something that can handle at least 1,500lbs on the loader for handling hay rolls.

I did hours and hours of research, went in bought me a TYM2515. My first tractor, yay, not so fast! Within a month I was back at my store upgrading to a TYM474 cab tractor. AC/heat radio, are must haves if you will be doing light work on other people’s property. (Hit your first bee hive hole, you will see what I mean.

Finally closing on the last lot of our 19 acres surrounding our house on Friday. I’ve been tractor shopping myself and have gone through the whole gambit. Started looking at a BX23S. Then I realized that I was going to need something bigger with a higher lifting capacity. So I looked at an L2502. Started watching as much content as I could on them and then realized that with my hilly property and PTO intensive (lots of wood chipping and brush cutting in my future) work that I need to do, I’d be better off going with the L3902. It’s right about the biggest tractor that my property and my truck can handle so it’s probably the right one for me. Now we just have to wait for the sale of our first business to go through and I’ll be able to buy the trailer that I need and go pick up a tractor and the implements from the dealer. Thanks for the video. I just can’t get enough tractor content right now.

I hear you. I was in the same boat. You are making the right choice. I have a hilly property as well. Get the wheel spacers so you can get as much width and stability as possible. I was a little concerned hauling a big tractor but my Kubota dealer provides pickup and delivery at a very reasonable price. I do my own maintenance and have not had to haul my L3901 anywhere in 3 years now.

I bought a l2501 last year and I am amazed by its power, it’s a great tractor and I don’t use the Pto much other than brush hogging, which it’s perfect for, I chose the gear driven and it’s fine for me however I may go with a bigger motor depending on tasks needed and if it was a hydrostatic or not. I have 18 acres but really only about 9 I use the tractor on. My $.02, I definitely love my kubota.

@TheShalomstead

@@donaldstrishock3923 there are plenty of reasons to need to haul your tractor. Maybe I need warranty work or recall work done. The closest Kubota dealer with a service center in an hours drive and with todays fuel prices I don’t even want to know what they would expect you to fork over for that. Maybe I’m going to go and do a job for someone to make some extra money to help cover the pretty extensive payments that I’m making on said tractor. Why wouldn’t you want to be set up with the capability to handle your own equipment? “It makes sense to me”

Agree with everything you said. I started out with a Kubota B2920. We’ve got 30 acres scattered across three tracts that don’t connect. We do two acres of market garden are currently mow the rest. Trying to plow with a light B series is a exercise of patience. Trying to maintain that much property with a 4 foot bush hog is borderline insane. I looked at tractors for two years and finally bought a JD 5065e. It’s a big enough tractor I opted the keep the Kubota as well for the tight spots and pulling cultivators on 30 inch rows. Being totally honest a Kubota 4702 or JD 4052 would have probably been a perfect fit. But I don’t regret my decision especially when it’s 105 out and I’m pulling a 8 foot bush hog with the A/C and radio blasting

I just spent 4 hours mowing with my B2601 (6 foot land pride 3 point mount which is a joy to mow with). It's a great little tractor. Keyword: little. Been saving up this year for something in the 50-60 HP range with a cab. I'm old and soft enough now that I definitely put off tractor projects when it is uncomfortable outside.

That's why I bought the ls Mt 2 series tractor instead of the l series Kubota or the deer 2 or 3 series. Because it was heavier than they were and I coul get a gear drive shuttle option on it. The gear drive puts a lot more power to the wheels than a hydrostatic does. My tractor weighs almost 6 thousand pounds with. Grader blade and loader with rim gaurd in the tires. I have put 800 hours on mine in 3 years and have never had the first issue with it. I have a lot of tractors John deere massy Ferguson case international. And I have been more satisfied with my Ls for what I paid for it than anything else

Yup. My brother bought a BX (pinned on bucket) and has regretted it ever since. When I bought a house with 3 acres ( my youngest also has 3 acres just down the road so we split on this), I went with a B2650 and am glad I did. I bought all of the attachments I wanted at the time (tiller, land plane, grapple, pallet forks) as Kubota had zero percent interest for eight years, so that's like free money. My only regret is I didn't go with a factory cab. We use this for our food plots at our 40 acre hunting camp, and my son uses it for his large garden at home. He bought a garden bedder for the three point recently. In the winter, the tractor stays at my house and I hook up the 60" Titan snowblower to the three point I bought a few years ago.

Please consider doing a presentation on your carry all design. I was about to go ahead and build mine with permanently attached platform & backboard but your design, allowing removal so as to allow usage as sort of a set of forks for heavier items interests me. Thanks. I've got an L2501 that I use on my 5 acre property and am content with it, though I know that the L3901 or L4701 would have enabled me to get heavier duty rear attachments. I chose the L2501, without the Diesel Particulate Filter system, as the Kubota dealer is very far away and wished to avoid service requirements above my abilities.
