How is that crazy? Pepsi didn't want a massive lawsuit, criminal investigation on their hands, or massive bad publicity on their hands. It was in their own best interests to do what they did. I start by planning ahead for my leftovers. I begin by planning my soup. After all, I will definitely end up with soup somewhere along the line. Under my turkey , goes some broth. Now turkey drippings are tasty, but I've learned to blend my broths for extra flavor. So in goes a Chicken broth and a beef broth. The turkey drippings add to this tasty blend. I don't add salt. There's plenty of that in the boxed/canned Broth. Then I slice my cucumbers in half length wise, then in quarters. I remove the seeds. I do this because not everyone can have the seeds. They're edible, though. Then I make cubes of my cucumbers. I take the tomatoes ( after removing the seeds & inside juice ... for health reasons) & slice. These go on the broth; sometimes with sliced apples... then I add the turkey, breast side down. Now a good sized turkey needs to thaw in the refrigerator for at least 4 days. And check for the giblets that are packed inside the turkey. The neck, the gizzard, the heart & the liver. Alot of people I know use these not just to add flavor to the broth, but chop them up for dressing's added flavor. If your turkey is still solid in the center with ice, run some hot water down there, your giblets are probably still frozen in there. Any root veggies go around the turkey and smaller veggies like peas ,corn, etc. go on top of the root veggies...Add the veggies AFTER you've cooked the breast side of your turkey really well, & have flipped the turkey onto its back. The back is a thinner part of the meat, & probably won't take as many hours to cook. Be sure your oven/ slow roaster is set for 400° farenheight. It should cook for at least 20 minutes PER POUND. Slicing is done to the breast with horizonal strokes . Once the horizontal stroke is made, slice pieces of the breast off with vertical strokes of your knife. The breast is white meat... and it should look white, or you need to cook it longer. The back & legs are the dark meat...if there's a hint of red to it, then this needs longer cooking. Make your pretty meat platter. Save a bunch of the broth for future soups and soup starters. I use a few plastic things with lids. I toss in some of the bits of leftover meat, & freeze. Got a good recipe for chicken salad sandwiches? Swap some turkey in place of the chicken. Use frozen meat as frozen entrees, as thawed out for regular turkey sandwiches, & back in the day, I had a meal saver, but I don't need it anymore... the freezer bags they make now are much nicer. Throw in your turkey entree, your veggies, take the leftover mashed potatoes, shape into nice sized " hamburger" patty shapes, give them a quick fry on both sides, remove the air from the bags, by pressing where the food isn't located and freeze. Later, drop into a pan of boiling water to reheat & it's Thanksgiving all over again. Now, cranberries. I love cranberry relish. It's simple and it freezes. Pick over the cranberries in the bag.( Some are hard, like break a tooth hard. Trash these). Now use your grinder/blender/juicer & toss them in . Add your oranges. .peel on & washed, & optional your cored apples. Grind. Stir together. Serve. One last thing...if tv dinners can freeze ingredients & you aren't sure, check your frozen section to see if you can freeze things , too. Cucumber seeds won't freeze; cucumbers will. Never freeze tomatoes or strawberries whole... they can be frozen, but whole, they are hard as ice cubes. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
