In January I was in the hospital for an MRSA infection on my face. I had to get a bunch of different ivs and fluids at different times. I had to get this certain medicine every 4 hours (vencomycin) and it ran for an hour. In the night time I had a hard time sleeping because I had to keep my arm straight or it'd stop and I'd have to call a nurse. And my night nurse was so so sweet. She came in no matter how many times and would wrap my arm in this sling to keep me comftorable. And when I couldn't sleep because of anxiety she helped find me a movie on the TV and was so sweet to me. She brought me snacks and Sprite and was just a blessing.

It's a real problem. After putting in the time and money for the education you can guess how hard it would be to say "I don't like this, despite the great pay, I think I'll go back to school". Also, I'm not an RN, I'm an RT, but once I got really burnt out and got out of healthcare for 2 years. It was incredibly hard to get a job, I was unemployed for 9 months and only got jobs through contacts. With eally less pay. But I couldn't keep on working not caring about the patients. And then, some people are just sociopaths-up to 25% according to some studies.

beaglechen That's terrible! I'm so sorry that you have to deal with that :( Just curious, are most of these patients male? Because I went to a pulmonary doctor a week ago because of some fluid around my lungs. I had to have it drained via tube and needle in my left side. He said that I was the easiest patient he dealt with. He went on to say how male patients are always screaming, shouting, kicking, swearing, etc. I must admit that I may have slightly assualted a few eardrums next door, but nobody was physically or mentally hurt lol. I'm female by the way.

6:46 honestly. You know which patients press the call light for when they actually need something and those who always call for the most ridiculous things. Like between one who only calls when they need help getting up from bed to use the restroom or the other who calls to complain about the temperature in the room or to pick something up thats right next to them when they can get up, you are going to prioritize the one who actually needs the help than the one who calls for something that can wait when there are multiple lights going off.

Nurses work REALLY hard...in my opinion harder than doctors. (You won't see a doctor taking your temp, getting you water or a blanket, making sure you get your pain meds, etc.) We all need to appreciate what they do for us. We are not their only patient. They work long hours and have other patients who are worse than we are. Personally, when I need something, I try to get it or do it on my own instead of hitting the call button. But only if it is safe. I've been in a room with other patients and get frustrated when they call for stuff they can do/get on their own. If everyone stopped calling for a straw, more water, Kleenex, etc. it would make it so that they can spend the time they need with other more serious patients. And when you are discharged or are leaving an appointment, take a minute to thank them for being there and helping us. Trust me, it will make them happy.

I went to the ER one time and I was there for HOURS and when I eventually got a room I pressed the call button, and was very hesitant to do it. I had to have a IV and it was giving me extreme pain. So a nurse came in and helped me the best she could. I apologized to her because I knew she was busy and she was so sweet about it. She also gave me filtered water from the nurses station instead of the sink where other patients were getting there’s. I appreciated her😂💜

Thanks for being honest. So long as no one's life is in danger though I am a chronically I'll person and not a nurse, I agree with moving someone to the back of the line for poor behavior. I am agoraphobic so nurses are mostly the only people I get to interact with when I do have to go out. Whether it's a doctor appointment or E.R. I had one nurse recently in a horrible mood and I acknowledged her mood and told her it was okay and she changed her mood for me. I am so grateful. Nurses I have found are kind and I appreciate it very much.

Tbh the nurse that did say yes to that should absolutely be reviewed by her employer. It's something that you just don't do and isn't ok. At the end of the day a person has to wait hours before seeing a dr in the hospital depending on where your from, and having a spiteful nurse making you wait longer is insane.
@zoopness

if you really need to be rushed to the er you can't be rude to nurses. they probably meant they made them wait longer because they were rude for no reason
@icedcoffeeb4900
@icedcoffeeb4900 5 жыл бұрын
When you work at the ER it's too crowded and it's messy and usually the rude patients are the people who don't want to wait because they think they're too good for that and in most cases, they aren't in real life threatening danger. When you've worked for a long time, you can tell the state of the patient, just by looking at them. No one who's feeling unwell will dramatize and yell at a nurse.
@beastbeautiful1
@beastbeautiful1 5 жыл бұрын
@@icedcoffeeb4900 there are some people who have mental illness like anxiety and in those situations it makes things worse. So now you have a spiteful nurse that pushed a person down the list who could go into a full blown panic attack due to their mental illness. Just cuz someone is a nurse doesn't mean they are able to tell if the px the person just bumped is going to get worse physically or mentally.

If you're nice to nurses they will truly do whatever you want. I go a lot to the hospital and is always nice to them, but not as much as after my appendix surgery. I was high as hell and really wanted the ice cream a nurse had offered me 15 minutes before so I told my mom to go find the pretty blonde nurse. There were two and my mom found the wrong one, but the nurse was so flattered and really nice to me through out my stay. Like you could tell that this had never happened before.
