Just mentioning that the very easy ‘Hi BYD’ voice controls get you past a lot of the screen fiddling. Eg, you don’t have to tap down levels to set the temperature, just say Hi BYD, set the air con to 21, and she does it.

Atto3 has been released in Asia for over a year and I had it for 13 months. Take it everywhere. The lane keeping and cruise is whack and stop using it after a month. But driving this car sure is fun. Super fast, lots of cargo, and the sunroof and sunshield are kids' favorite. The body kit are rare to find. But we got the weather guard all around it make the care look and feel more 'full'.

@@Dom-bn1ru it's super popular in my country - along with tesla. Atto3 owners here and other country has formed facebook groups to support each other and updates each other with news. So far, the only issue people has is the anti-collision during driving-assist. For example if a car in front of you do a break check, if you have driving-assist on, it'll slam the brake to prevent front end collision but could cause rear end collision instead. Not sure it's the software flaw or not.

@@plzzz ahh that’s interesting… is there a way to turn off all the assisted safety features where the car will do stuff for u automatically? I live in a congested city and the automatic safety features will be very dangerous

We have had ours since July and its been fantastic, very well equipped and a relaxing drive. I tend to agree if buying outright its not priced competitively enough as a new brand in the UK to entice buyers in, but with good salary sacrifice and mobility deals its making in roads. The owners group i moderate on FB has seen a notable uptick in new owners getting their BYDs in 2024

Try standard regen in flat land, you will gets better range than you mentioned. High Regen works better on down hills!

Thanks for this vid. How can a 11kw on board charger accept 7kw at home on a single phase? 11 kw implies 3-phase charging at 16amps per phase. This means the car's on-board charger cannot accept more than that 16 amps on each pin of the connector. At home a 7kw charger implies a single phase system able to potentially provide 32 amps. But with the vehicles limitation at 16 amps, that means the '7kw' home charger could only supply 3.6kw (without counting the losses of cable etc).

As far as I'm aware, it won't be an issue. But feel free to check it with the manufacturer!

Front wheel spin is NOT torque steer! Torque steer will cause the vehicle to pull left or right during the acceleration process. Most FWD vehicles have engines parallel to the seating arrangement. What it means the drive axle will be longer on side vs the other. When you accelerate, the front suspension will rise and long axle will be at an angle that is less inclined compared to the shorter axle. If the drive shaft angle is increased, the efficiency goes down because it will bind more compared to a more gentle angle from the longer drive shaft. That is what cause a lot of the torque steering problem along among other reasons.

Why are there so many UK Atto 3 reviews popping up on YT at the moment when the car was launched & reviewed by many people in the UK over a year ago? Call me sinical but I'm guessing sales are not going too well so BYD are trying to re-invigorate the demand to shift more metal. As to why sales are not so great well, my guess is it's purely down to price. I watched some rave reviews of this car from Australia & NZ over 20 months ago so I decided to test drive the Atto 3 when it arrived in the UK in April '23. It's a very well specified car with a heat pump & Pano roof as standard & the ride is OK. The car is a bit bigger than I was hoping for & yes, it has a mad interior but I was OK with that. It has the right battery chemistry but I'm not in love with the Build Your Dreams lettering right across the rear boot (they need to shorten it to BYD as they have done on the new Seal). However, even in base trim (which is a pretty decent spec) it is over £10k more expensive that the equivalent RHD models that I had seen reviewed in Australia, NZ & other countries. Had this car come in around the £25-26k mark that it sold for in Australia / NZ last year (& even cheaper in other countries) then I would have been severely tempted to buy one as our 1st EV. Unfortunately at £36k it was a no go for us because the trade in gap for our old car was just too wide & I didn't think, as a new brand to the UK, it was worth the asking price. In the end we went for a 22 plate low mileage 1 year old top spec 64kWh Kona which was 40% less than it's price when new & nearly a 1 to 1 price swap with our old '19 plate ice car. As I said the Atto 3 is a good car but pricing it as a more premium product in the UK has not done it any favours.

That's quite the essay haha. But to answer you question about reviews - because it came later to the UK, and further, the opportunity to review it even later. Truthfully, could have reviewed it a while back, but didn't have the time with a very packed schedule. Glad I have now reviewed it though.

It's better than a Tesla. Better ride, better build quality, opening sunroof, and sunshade, driver display binacle, cooler interior. Tesla has better charging infrastructure - which you don't need 90% of the time if you own a garage.

If not for that God-awful interior it would be a perfect little EV. Shame really how they let it down with such a small oversight

I'd argue not having single pedal drive mode is a safety feature and not a short coming, particularly for a car aims at families. Drivers of cars with single pedal drive mode are infamous for slamming on the accelerators when they need to do emergency brake. You never hear that for cars without single pedal drive mode, except for the rare cases of senior drivers that may be mentally impeded.

Having the option, as mentioned would have been appreciated. Rather than being forced to use a set mode.

What? That’s definitely not a thing. I’ve been one pedal driving for 7 years now, and I’ve never confused the brake and accelerator.
