ive had iPads since the first generation. The minis have been my favorites, by a large margin. I'm still rocking a Pro 10.5" with the headphone out. Due to a few particulars, I've had to get a MacBook Air as well, but if they do a Mini Pro I'd be all over it. Being more book sized makes it more portable and useful and less obtrusive. I wouldn't dare whip out a 13" device in the museum to snap a photo and jot notes (or draw mustaches) on it, but the iPad mini is barely more obtrusive than most phones. Whatever the next gen of it is, I'll probably wish it had lidar and instantly buy it anyway.

Just picked up my first ever iPad (5th gen Air). Have to say, it has revolutionised my productivity levels at work. Incredibly useful bit of kit, especially for professional applications. Note taking, emails, project planning, researching etc. The current state of iPads seems honestly incredible, the M1 chip in my iPad Air is really very impressive for the use case. So many of my workflows have been streamlined and I’ve been pleasantly surprised how well iOS works with most Microsoft services and especially google services. There are some things to be ironed with the newer features such Split View and stage manager, but it seems this has more to do with the app developers optimising the user experience. If you’re any kind of professional I have no doubt you’ll find this an extremely useful piece of technology, which coming from a bit of a technophobe, is seriously high praise, This review was written on my iPad Air!

As a teacher, and just like your tattoo artist friend, there’s no other computer that’d get my job done the way the iPad does it. Ever since I learned it could be hooked up to a projector and I could use GoodNotes as my digital board, it completely changed the way I work for the better. That was years ago on an iPad Air 2; now it’s only gotten better with iPadOS being more fleshed out. But I agree with you that some of the features feel frustratingly half-baked when they release, the more egregious example being Stage Manager on an external monitor still not working properly.

One thing I'd like to see on the next iPad Pro is a second TB port to allow connecting fast storage at the same time as an external monitor. NIce to see your studio assistant, as well! 🐱

I use my iPad for digital art, note taking, writing, and media consumption. I got it mostly for digital art and consuming media, but I’ve expanded the usage quite a bit. At one time, I thought I could use it as my sole device. Eventually though, I bought a MacBook for tasks that are more comfortable on a laptop. Though I still mainly use my iPad, I’m happy to have both and have them talk to each other quite easily.

The file storage system remains my biggest barrier to full access of my Apple ecosystem. It's been a couple of years since I switched from PC OSs and I have a decent sense of how Finder works, but on my iPad, I find it beyond unintuitive and confusing. It clashes with my learning disability bigtime, and was part of why I went with Windows and Linux.

As a student, I’m still currently using the iPad Pro 9.7 from 2016. I used it as my only computer until 2020, and it’s definitely outdated but for my use case I find myself bringing it more than my laptop since it’s lighter for the commute as well as better for reading, taking notes and viewing pdfs. That being said, should this iPad break I would probably end up buying a Macbook Air since it can do everything the ipad can except handwritten notes, and the iPad lineup is currently messy for me. If I upgrade to a 10th gen iPad I’m scared that it would be outdated sooner but the Air is too pricey

kinda niche use case for my iPad: sheet music for Jazz-sessions and self-scrolling lyrics for rock-pop-cover-gigs. Other than that it within the 6 weeks I own one it replaced my whole analog note taking. So if I could only have one device, macbook or iPad, I would actually go iPad. Even though I absolutely adore my macbook air m1, was my first mac ever and the best laptop I’ve ever owned with this immense power and ridiculous battery life. But then I would need an iPad with at least 512 gb storage, so I would probably go Pro. As a companion device the ipad air 5 m1 so far is immaculate.

While I believe that using a Mac book instead will definitely make my work flow easier, I have always been attracted to the iPad. The flexibility of the device kind reminds me of me. I’m using a 2017 Mac book air so I’m due for an upgrade. I was going to purchase a new device this year, however I was stuck between MacBook and iPad. My decision fell on this thought “if i been debating whether to go laptop or iPad even with the knowledge that laptop will be easier, I should go with the choice that Will make me happier which is iPad.” Either way I will be getting a new device!

If you only do basic things like reading ebooks/magazines/newspapers, surfing the web, online shopping, mail, watching youtube/movies etc. there is no need for a computer, the iPad is perfect for that. I tried using only the iPad as a university student and the only thing I had to complain about was Notion, for example copy paste didn’t work, but I think it works now. And some things felt a bit wierd because I was used to a Mac. Also we write all of our exams on a computer and I don’t think that software runs on an iPad (but you can borrow a computer from school so it’s not really an issue). :)

I am in the research phase of purchasing EITHER a new laptop (pc or MacBook) and a new kindle, OR an iPad to cover both. I use my current outdated dell laptop for resume polishing, the random excel spreadsheet, or researching big purchases. I also use it for doing my taxes once per year with H&R Block’s online software. And lastly I use it for my cricut and photo editing. I use my kindle for streaming video, but I would use it for more but it kinda sucks for everything else. I’m torn as to what direction to go. All of my old files and photos are stored on a couple of external hard drives and I have a lot of old files on some flash drives as well. I really don’t want to go through the process of changing or replacing all of those. Yet to be honest I don’t really use my laptop enough to spend a lot on a really good one. I think I would qualify as someone who can get away with only an iPad, but what happens to all my old files and photos? Thoughts recommendations are appreciated…

This video made my weekend! And I got to see the 🐈. I use my iPad Pro (m1) for notes, calendar, drawing, video editing. I like the mirror feature and use it when I am out on location recording podcasts with clients. I use ECamm Live to bring in guests and display them and the host on the iPad Pro while producing the scenes on my MacBook Pro (also m1). At home, I often use universal control and sit it next to my MacBook, which is already connected to 2 27inch monitors. I get extra screen real estate with it and can be dry productive. I know these devices are expensive (I also have a 14 Pro Max) but I am a busy freelancer and also teach a few courses at a local university. I have a work computer that is required to be used by our firm for security reasons so my own personal device is my only choice. I love iOS way better than MacOS. It is easy to use, no fuss, operates the same as my iPhone which makes it familiar, gets a lot better as times goes on when more computer-like functionality is added, and finally more gadgets can be used by iPads, like using an iPhone as a camera for videoconferencing. I can use a lot of MacOS keyboard shortcuts which makes using iOS easy and familiar. I wish iPads would be made with a lot larger screen sizes for viewing media, more space usage for multitasking, and split screen scenarios. They would still be very portable because Apple’s laptops are larger and have shrunk in thickness to approximately similar sizes overall. For people who want to hold these in their hands, then they could still get the smaller iPads. I hardly ever hold my iPad in my hands, but rather use it on stands or Magic Keyboard case. I just prefer to have extra large screens using iOS. Screen sizes of 14 and 16 inches would be great.

One of the main things I like about my iPad Air (I also have a Mini) is that the keyboard is separate. I bought an M1 MacBook Air when they first came out because the keyboard issues were supposed to be fixed. Less than a year later, the keyboard had to be replaced, and while Apple Care paid for it, the cost was about half the cost of a new MacBook Air. Next time it broke I would have had to pay out of pocket. I have a lot more flexibility (though far less functionality) with the iPad, such as being able to use multiple keyboards and all the keyboards cost less than $100 (I have no interest in the keypad/cover as I cannot use the cover as a separate keyboard...having the trackpad would be nice though). I also can sit the iPad on a TV tray in front of the couch and use the keyboard in my lab, so both are at a better height for me. Finally, I find a laptop really awkward to watch in all kind of crazy positions when relaxing. I far prefer having the power of a real computer, which would be the MacBook, but in the end the iPad fits my overall use cases better.

*it would be Nice if they could Fix Files as in allowing to import for various Apps or Allowing that. I find accessing my SSD thru files just meh, I can't even import to Photos unless it's a thumbdrive via n App. I understand it's not a PC or Macbook but at least allow it to do a bit more and allow apps to utilize Files or iOS to access those Drives*

My thoughts went a bit to crazy imagination, but to me, what I like is two writing pad ---- As for now, among what apple have offered, big one for mind map and serious work (which is now the 12.9, but it cannot be your delicate computer), smaller one is for travel, easy use and inspiration note take that you just need A6 paper sheet (which is iPad mini series). But I would love to see the MacBook Pro support Apple Pencil, so it become a 14-16 inch huge drawing pad that can also do all the Mac things. And an iPhone ultra that can also support Apple Pencil, so no need for iPad mini, I know it is nearly impossible and will be ultra expensive if apple goes this round. But basically what I feel a bit uncomfortable is Apple Pencil become the safe zoom for the iPad lines, then they want you to have two computer: Mac and iPad (which can do quite less thing than mac), and apple is trying to give you as many products as possible... a bit chaos to be honest. I can see iPad doing a lot of things, and it is always nice to have a back up computer if you are a pro, but for now iPad is just not enough to be called as computer for most of the people, apple give big promise since m1 iPads, but it doesn't deliver the promise.

Thanks bro for sharing as always 🙏 One question on older ipad pro. I have a older ipad pro 12.9 which dosent have a magnet in its backside. My ipad stand only supports magnetic ipads only , to attach it. Any idea how can i make it magnetic on its back side ? I basically wanted my older ipad as a extra screen while working with my external monitor. And use my newer ipad M1 12.9 while writing with apple pencil.

And also shows limitations with Mac for me. I love my iPad Pro but need a low performance pc but with 2 terabytes for the master file system. Basically like an old Land Rover defender. Great storage and reliability but don’t need the best graphics or processor so for me to go from windows to Mac would be a 2 grand alt least Mac to get the storage. I really think Apple could do a cheaper work horse with storage as priority so brand new but use M1 chip so it’s cheaper

With a relatively cheap Thunderbolt 4 NVMe case, you can achive your goal for considerably less than 2K.

What’s your recommendation for the wallpaper bound pack? Do you think I should mix between devices or all the same one? Do you I should change frequently or stay on one? Which is your favourite as I see you using the green one mostly. I usually go with apple default wallpapers as they are most easy on eyes and also complications and apps are more clear to see. (I’m intending to buy yours that’s why… I wished I can try it before so I can choose the best pack!)

I think the simplest way to figure out if an iPad is right for you is the following: Do you imagine yourself using the iPad in a keyboard case a majority of the time? Don't get an iPad. Do you see yourself using the iPad as a tablet (whatever that means for you) rather than as a laptop (again, whatever that means for you)? Great! Get an iPad, there isn't a better tablet out there.

I'm already in doubt about the sanity of this individual from the intro! "In 2018, I wanted to figure out if I could force myself to use a crippled computer instead of a real computer, to do all the things i need to do with a computer, for no good reason." Why is this such a common "dare"? Why not "I wanted to see if I could replace my Honda Civic with a lawn mower?" An iPad is NOT a general purpose computing device, you quite literally need a contract with Apple and their explicit permission to do any general computing task on it. Personally, I haven't owned an iPad for a 5 years stint, and suddenly bought an iPad 5 Air. Revolutionary progress. But anyone who thinks it is less than a crippled computer is a fool, the software is still not that stable. The UI interactions still aren't fixed in a ton of places to support a keyboard. And the pen experience and split screen apps allows you to do somethings you simple can't do on Linux Windows or MacOS, that I really want to do and that are really useful. So that's what I'll use it for.

It's all about your use cases and workflow. The tattoo artist's business cases being an excellent example. Everyone's mileage may vary. For me, Microsoft Surface Pro has done all that was discussed in this video since 2013 with a few compromises. The best you can say about battery life though is, "it's adequate (mostly)." External monitor support? I've had FOUR external monitors plugged into it simultaneously making five with the integral display. Bit of a lament MS removed the SP's microSD slot beginning with the SP8 thus losing the capability to add 1 TB of storage with nothing "visibly" plugged into it. In many ways, the iPad has always been best of breed, but the Surface Pro (and Go) are far more versatile--assuming you are not tied to the Apple ecosphere by choice or by training. Good thoughtful video.

I think Apple's hand will be forced concerning more MacOS features on iPads, next year when the Snapdragon/Nuvia 2-in-1 devices hit the market running Windows 12 (WOA + Core). I expect a BIG upgrade in iPadOS-18 to fight off this severe competition that is going to arrrive next year.

Is it only my ipad or is it normal that everytime i write with apple pencil resting my wrist (not excessively) on the screen there's like a black area that forms with a little pressure? In particular where it should be the battery inside
@jngarrettart8 ай бұрын
I think I had something that sounds similar to this happen with one iPad I owned years ago. Took it to the Apple Store while it was still under warranty, and they replaced the device.
@SHiBUYA.008 ай бұрын
@@jngarrettart i went to the apple store but they told me it was normal because of the liquid crystals inside the screen 😐 to be honest i can’t see the same problem when i watch at other people’s iPads (especially on yt)
@jngarrettart8 ай бұрын
@@SHiBUYA.00 Not sure what to say on that. I think I noticed something recently too on an iPad 10 I saw someone using (in person, so I can’t link a video), but it also went away. I tend to have a pretty light hand when I draw, and I use a screen protector, so maybe I’m not the best person to comment on this as a regular use thing? The device I had trouble with had received too much pressure inside a bag with other items.

I need an honest answer for this Tom: is the Magic Keyboard really worth it for a casual user who uses their iPad for work note taking/youtube/ doodling/ file transfers and occasionally Apple Arcade gaming. I have an Apple Pencil already
@gr-os4gd8 ай бұрын
I have one and use it a lot, but I do a lot of typing. For your use case, you probably don't need one, and can likely get by with an inexpensive wireless keyboard for those times you need to do some typing.

If you want to use the iPad as your mainly computer and you need to type a lot, get a Magic Keyboard. It’s soooo good ! It’s so tiny, you can use it everywhere (in a waiting room for exemple) But it you have a laptop and use the iPad as a complementary device, it’s not worth it (too expensive)
