The dash is what i like the most about the c4 vettes so futuristic yet so old and the exhaust makes it sound as aggressive as it looks

I had a muffler shop do mine with 4" dual chrome tips for $250, everything was welded, looked great. It was loud and sounded good and was actually fairly quiet when not getting on it. There was a little drone at cruising speeds, but it was tolerable. Overall it's definitely worth doing, they're just too quiet stock.

I did that on my 92 C4 and drove it 3 years. I was never stopped for loud exhaust and enjoyed it every time I drove it. Good memories!

Looks good and sounds good. One thing I would do is spin the muffler clamps 180 degrees so you aren't staring at the clamp and nuts.

That is a beautiful looking C4, that blue color just suits the car perfectly, and the exhaust mod sure made that 350TPI sound nice! One thing I found funny with the C4 is that all of the instrument cluster is digital but the odometer is still analogue, but the instrument cluster is soooooo fucking cool! Nice 4gen Camaro you got in the garage beside the Corvette.

Very good video! I just had a Corvette shop replace the Y-pipe and mufflers on my ‘84 C4 so everything is rust free. The driver side muffler clamp came loose and the muffler dropped. When I got home and realized what had happened, it hit me knowing the muffler loss wasn’t a big deal, the car sounded very cool. I’ll go forward and delete the mufflers with this kit.

Update: I decided to make my own straight pipes. I put together two 45-degree elbows and a turn down tip. I welded the elbows and tip together then clamped this combination to the Y-pipe. I welded a tab to the tip so it could be fastened to the muffler hanger. Before everything was bolted tight, I raised the Y-pipe with a floor jack so that it would be level with the car's underside. I then bolted the u-clamps and tip to the hanger. Total cost was $64, parts readily available at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. I put Flowmasters on the '85 C4 that I had. I eventually put a ZZ4 motor in it. It was about as loud as I would like. I left the '92 C4 I had stock.

Sounds and looks great! I've really enjoyed watching your progress on the car. She smokes pretty good on startup though...time for new valve guide seals. I did them on an '86 LB9 and it was well worth it.

@@ReynoldsRides It's not hard, but it is a little tedious and procedural. Would recommend reading up on how to do it without pulling the heads if you don't need to pull them. I did mine in a weekend day, in my home garage with hand tools and an air compressor, time included the learning curve. Was a great project, good learning, and high DIY satisfaction. The hardest part for me was adjusting the valves at the end since I had never done it before, but the process for a 16v small block Chevy is very well documented (as is changing valve seals), and judging by your work in your videos, you'll get the hang of it really quick.

We have the eliminator on our 94. It sounds so good but it terrible for highway cruising. Somehow it got louder with a trunk full of bags even lol

Put some glasspacks on the pipes, that'll mellow it out a lot. I cut all the mufflers and the giant cat off my 351w F250 and it was a bit much, just a couple of glass packs and it's way better, I never would have thought it would make such a difference. You'll still have some of the weight savings too. If you have a shop weld in glass packs you can adjust the tips more as well.

I had muffler delete with monza tips on my 85 C-4. Got stopped once for noise. Told the cop it was a factory option Z67 or something because you couldn't get side pipes any more. He bought it

little info for ya, those are infact not stock mufflers, all of these cars came with fully welded echaust system, the rear section of your car had clamp ons, still really quiet like factory but another c4 owner informed me of that bc i thought mine was stock but its clamp on up to the catalytic converters

Amazing!! Muffler deletes are the way to go for a cheap performance upgrade. The diameter of the pipes are the same almost all the way to the back. So the exhaust scavenging of the stock manifolds and the overall system is barley affected. Ive seen it on over a dozen cars and not one set of a check engine light (scotty kilmer!!) You won't gain much power. Maybe 1 or 2 at the top but its cheap,,,sounds awesome and loses weight. Its a win win overall in my opinion

Just for future reference because I’d hate to see you go through this again…If you keep the muffler connected, you can use it as leverage to twist the pipe up and down and pound at the same time if need be..Sounds great 👍

Ya it’s definitely not slower, you dropped probably 30lbs and opened up the exhaust…You’re probably right the louder sound is deceiving…Congrats on the 100th video…👍

The original catalytic converter on my 1987 Corvette finally gave up the ghost so I installed a set of flomasters. Much better performance. A wee bit louder, but the only ones complaining are my neighbors.

To eliminate drone, all you need is 2 Helmholtz resonators. Totally worth it!

Good job. Looks like one job to add to the list is those valve stem oil seals. Not hard, just long. Might be good content for winter vids?? Do you have a drone problem?

The stuff stuck in/coming out of your mufflers is likely the catalyst from your catalytic converter. Very common with original 80s cats. In some cases they can cause a blockage and severely restrict power. The cat in my 85 Corvette was complete toast when I replaced my exhaust.

Also, if the cat is broken up, that will definitely make a muffler delete setup much louder than if there was an intact catalytic converter in place.

Nice! I went with Corsa - it barks when you get in it, but non ticket quiet when cruising. There IS a drone at 80mph though, but it's mild

I always thought it would be cool to put the aluminum heads and TPI top end on a 406 shortblock with a bit chubbier cam in it and long tubes...it would still fall on it's face at 5000rpms but the torque would be ridiculous, you want to gear it taller to make it quicker because it could pull anything.

I noticed those frame braces that run by the pinch welds. How do you like those vs the X-brace? I hear you cant mount both at the same time (Im assuming space requirements, or mounting locations?) Nice car overall, I picked up an 84 Vette right before winter last year... looks to be the same metallic dark Blue. But im currently getting ideas/parts together to make it a better all-round driver, and I've read that doing body/suspension work first, will do wonders for the C4's.

Try to turn the clamps towards the underside of car will look a lot cleaner from the underside or take it up to get welded on and rattling might be a shot cat .

I just got a pair of muffler eliminators for my 88’ I plan to do a video on it to see what it’s like. They’re on back order :( this is 100% the sound I want Edit: Still on back order. Edit 2: Back order again until September Edit 3: GOT THEM!

Most motors like a little backpressure, so when you remove the mufflers entirely, you lose low end power because of this. The sound isn't too loud imo, but the drone is probably a tad more than you may be used too for a daily driver. I'd add a chambered muffler, or maybe a Race style for ex: Borla XR1's for some depth/bass from the overall exhaust note.

I also did this on my 88 c4 but found it too annoying after a while, especially when driving longer on the highway or so. I put the original mufflers back on her then.

Sounds great. Im debating muffler eliminator or wait and save for cat back exhust. Let us know if you lost any power from less back pressure. This is a little late but if you disconnected it from the cat first and dropped the cat back exhust, you could have slipped the mufflers forward. This might have given you the leverage to twist and slide the mufflers off. Then you wouldn't need to cut the mufflers and remove the mounting brackets.

The 4 muffler hanger nuts are easier to get off than 30 year old rusted exhaust bolts. Just pulled the system off my 92.

Finally, I installed mine. Turned out the Y-Pipe had a hole as well, so ended up buying theY-Pipe with bypass. For kicks and giggles, I tried to separate the factory muffler without cutting from the Y-Pipe . No dice. Taking out the bolt from the Y-Pipe to the Catalytic Converter was a piece of cake, and everything just slid out. Mine is an 89 and sounds juat like his. A little louder than I expected, but we will see if I like it or not.

It feel slower due to the lower back pressure. You may have to re-tune it.

ive got this same kit on my 1985 vette. Stock exhaust, except for these and a replacement y pipe. Mine really isnt loud at all. its comparable to the stock exhaust in my opinion, but it just sounds throatier and a tad bit louder. Also, I have less drone with the muffler deletes than with the mufflers? weird right? for me, its perfectly fine to daily. not too loud or annoying. should keep it. -cheers

I thought about these but ended up using stock mufflers on my ‘87, What about highway speeds, too much noise/drone? It sounds great, just curious if you get tired of it on the highway.

@@ReynoldsRides yes I actually cut off the tips..and aligned them ..then welded them on after I liked where they were…The kit I got was also the square tip like the later C4s have..I wanted to get the quad tip but they were on back order and I’m inpatient..so I was thinking when it didn’t fit , that it was because it was for a different/later C4 and I had to make do..but now I see it maybe just how they are made

Definitely too loud. Here's a little tip for appearance. Rotate the pipe clamp ends forward and slightly upward. It makes them look much less cluttered.

Okay....you need a few adult bevs before starting this job...you did a whole lot of extra work that wasn't needed. Turn your U-bolt 180 degrees, looks junior. The hanger is your adjustment point, use it, bend, twist or whatever. Your final position is pretty darn good, I like it. Sound is excellent, enjoy...pat yourself on the back and celebrate!
