Thanks! My problem was NOT the spring but the plastic holder had a broken clip on one side! Super glue is a no go but a mini hose clamp held it in position! FIXED

Thanks, just fixed mine on my 05 Corvette. The original spring was disintegrated (barely anything left). Replacement spring was $0.59 at my local hardware store. I’m sure you saved me hundreds instead of bringing it to the dealer. Thanks again!

just had this problem yesterday and thank you for the fix. couldnt find the part online except for full replacement that was over $125.

Thanks. I found a "work around" on Corvette Forum that did not require taking the wheel off. I am a single female without a jack nor anyone to help. My gas cap was not opening. So, I removed the 10mm nut from the actuator from the manual release to allow for more slack in the line. I then removed the 15 mm nut from the post where the gas cap connects. Well....the cable with the plunger disappeared. Yep...gone. Hanging down there somewhere. I loosened the gas filler and but can't see what else is down there. Any ideas? Do you think this thing would just sling shot back?

I'm not familiar with the "work around" you're referring to. The line has to have fallen down into the area above the wheel liner. You could potentially get to it without removing the wheel, although, it will be more of a pain that way, as you'd have to work around the wheel. That is what I would try, if you can't jack it up and get the wheel off. I hope you get it fixed!

You will see my comments/questions just after this. When I move the gas filler over to the left I see a threaded cable but I think it runs to the hydraulic arm for the hatch?

Wow, I had that same problem on my 01 c5. Crazy how GM tries to hit you with the fuel door problem. Reminds me of the traction control fix in my c5 that cost over 2000 at the dealer. But 5 cents for the actual part to sauter and fix yourself.

Yeah. I’ve had a few issues where it would have cost a fortune to fix with new parts, that I just fix myself for next to nothing.

Hey, I have a 2013 c6 and just loaded fuel and my engine light came on. At first I thought maybe the gas cap came lose so I checked it. When I did, I noticed there was no flap on the gas filler tube. I had AutoZone run a systems check and code PO 442. Evaporation Emission System LeakDetected/Small Leak. Now I have several vehicles and don't drive this one much, 26,000 miles, but I believe it had a flap on that gas filler tube. Does yours? Thanks for the help...:-)

Although, I’m not sure how that would cause a code. The gas cap should be what seals up the system, in that area.

Can you help I have a 2009 c6 I replace the spring just like you did in the video and it works from the button but not from the manual release any idea why? Thanks in advance

Maybe somehow the tether that you pull on got disconnected from the mechanism. I’m not really sure as I didn’t look into that too much when I had it taken apart. I just fixed the issue where the pin wasn’t popping back out by adding another spring.
